Could Use Some Help?

I stumbled upon Highlander Radio just yesterday and decided to join as a member. Though I am familiar with forums I may need some help here.

I am of Scottish descent, living in Syracuse, NY. My grandfather's clan was the Gordons, and my Grandmother's was the Mackenzies. They immigrated to the states from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Three of my aunts were born in Scotland, and my mother was born shortly after my grandparents moved to the states. Unfortunatley my father's family hailed from England.

I came across this web site while searching for Celtic music. I play the piano, guitar and am learning the pan pipes (flutes), which richly adorn Celtic music. I also love the bagpipes but can't imagine trying to learn how to play them. For those of you who love Celtic music I also came upon another site, http://www.celticgrove.com.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help that you members may offer.

My wife's mother's maiden name was Aitken, which is part of Clan Gordon.

Welcome Scott! From what i know about the Gordons, they took the name from Gordon of Berwickshire, it is thought to be or Norman origins. Also the Gordons are associated with Kenmure in Scotland. Luceo Non Uro is the MacKenzie motto meaning I shine not burn. Thier family origins were believed to have begun in the early 13th century. They were of pure Celtic descent, not like many of the other clans of Norman origins. 1267 , you ancestors were at Eilean Donan at Loch Duich in Scotland. As far as he Gordons go..the first known in Scotland was Adam de Gordoun, he was in Scotland during the time of Julius Caesar, it was not until around 1400 that the Gordoun name lost the "u". I love to do research on Scottish surnames and septs. Well..again welcome and be proud of yer heritage!
