Celtic Radio Community > The Grove > Celtic Animal Zodiac - Help?

Does anyone here understand and know about celtic animal zodiac? See, something about it is bothering me. My bfs sign is the salmon and the hazel tree. His bday is aug 13 but his celtic zodiac animal stays the same. My celtic tree sign is the ash tree (march 3) but my celtic animal zodiac is always different. So far I've seen adder/snake, seal, hawk, seagull, butterfly, and seahorse which all seem to fall under my bday depending on which site you look at. I want to know if anyone here knows what my actual animal sign would be or why it is constantly different?

Here is a bit of information I found that may help:
"Celtic astrology, as known today, was created by the poet Robert Graves in his book The White Goddess (published in 1946). According to Graves, the Celtic lunar calendar comprised of thirteen months was the basis of Irish astrology. Graves's book gave birth to a new astrology commonly accepted by the general population as the ancient Celtic astrology. Scholars claim that his tree zodiac is a misrepresentation of the ancient Celts' belief systems. You must decide for yourself if Graves' astrology has value."

This info comes from http://horoscopes.lovetoknow.com/Celtic_Astrological_Signs

Of course since anyone can put info on the internet it could just be people making up their own Zodiac signs. The dates for the trees on the above site are even slightly different from the ones on this site.

Thanks!!! That is actually really helpful. I'll check the link out and look at some more stuff. It just baffled me that my bfs celtic sign would stay the same but mine is always different.

I have the same problem with the regular zodiac symbols. They can't seem to decide wether I'm a Libra or a Scorpio which is why I don't put much stock in zodiac signs.

My Celtic Animal Zodiac is a snake.. EEK :S
@Robert Depends when your birthday is.. Like if you're born after October 22 but before November 22 you're a Scorpio. If your born before October 22 but after September 23 you're a Libra.

All zodiac's have a slight difference on the start & begin dates, since they are based on the moon, not the currently accepted calendar. If your birthday is on the border, your sign will depend on the source.

Your western zodiac is based on what sign the moon was in the day and year you were born. I think the zodiac for western time was recently changed so that's messing with a lot of people I think.

@IslaDragon You speak of the Chinese zodiac? If so its just birth year there. Like for example I was born in 1988 so I was born in the year of the dragon which makes my zodiac (Chinese) a dragon.

No. I was referring to western zodiac. It's based on your birth month, day, and year you were born. So a 2013 Taurus may not fully apply to someone who is a Taurus who was born in 1971 and so on. I had a book that was really in depth about all this lol. Forgot the name of it. Also, Darkside Zodiac is a good on too. It offers insight on all the negative traits of each western sign rather than positive. If I remember the name of the big huge green book I had that had a western zodiac sign for each year through 1900 to 2000 then I'll post the name of it. Basically it gives insight on your western zodiac sign the year you were born. For example, my bf is a 1969 Leo and I'm a 1987 Pisces. But there's 1970 Leos and 1940 Pisces and so on. It's really in depth.

EDIT: I remembered the name of the book I was referring to. This is what it says on the front cover

"Your Birthday Sign Through Time
A Chronicle of the Forces that Shape Your Destiny

Interpreted by Seven Leading Astrologers
Edited by Rochelle Gordon and Nadia Stieglitz"
