My Great Grandfather immigrated from Belfast in the late 1800's, plus I have a lot of Scottish roots on both my father and mother's side.
I have a German last name but interestingly enought the place in Germany that those Ancestors came from Schwabisch is rumored to be the place where the first evidence of written Celtic language was discovered.
My wife (Red hair green eyes with a very Irish look) has a name that was handed down from Generation to Generation and has Scottish heritage, through a Bell line, but it appears that she is decended from a group of people who were in the US before Jamestown was founded, called the Mulungon. They were found living in Appalachia with the Native Americans when the first settlers arrived in America. It was noted that they were different because they had Red Hair, Green Eyes, Pale White Skin and are thought to have immigrated from Ireland (because of some of their dialect I believe)
Just some interesting trivia
Peace
Mikel

About Schwäbisch - I have heard that too, and whatever the truth is, I went to Schwaben 4 weeks ago, and I found that there were a lot of Celtic stuffs in the Area, and many words have celtic (Gaelic/Breton) counterparts with a german pronounciation - however Schwaben is really a land ye should visit at least once in your life time!

In my family...my Dad's side kept horrible records..but they are German.
On my Mom's side...they kept great records on both her Mom & Dad's sides. My Gramma's family were Irish/English who went to Australia then came here (Gayle). My Grampa's side was Irish who married into German (Busby, Kilna, Martin). My Gramma was really into our family geneolgy so we know a lot. Some of them we even know the ship names they came over on. Quite interesting!! SO...not sure which or what I should claim more of...do I go by who was last to arrive in America? Or which heritage is represented more? I guess I am like the Heinz 57 variety???
Oh...I meant to mention...my Mom favored her Irish side...with her green eyes, auburn hair and she was only 5-1 if she fluffed up her hair a bit You can see her photo in my photo journal btw..
On my father's side I am the 5th generation from Londonderry. I am researching our family now. I hope to go to Londonderry to find when my family arrived in Londonderry from Scotland. Wow! This is so fascinatinig. My family settled in Alamance County North Carolina.
One of my great-grandfathers was from Londonderry, and another was probably from the Munster area. We also have lots of Scottish roots (namely, the Ulster-Scots) and plenty of British. I love family history!
I have Scottish, Welsh, and English from my father's side as well as Swedish and Danish. I have more Scottish, English, and Danish from my mother's side. I ended up with the curly red hair in my family.
Scottish areas my ancestors are from: Dunnet, Edinburgh, and Clackmannan. Welsh Areas: Hawarden in North Wales. English Areas: Preston in Lancashire, Skipton and Beverly in Yorkshire, Halstead in Essex, Dover in Kent, and Nottingham.

I am Welsh from my Nana's side, English and German from my grandfathers (adopted) side and there is some Cherokee in there from my father.
I honestly don't know what side I favor the most, but my nana definately looked Welsh and my Poppy when he was young had fire red hair and blue eyes (I've always thought there was some Irish in there somewhere), I still have the blue eyes (lol) but my hair has darkened from the same red that he had, to brown.....or as it is sometimes called, dishwater blonde.

I am Swedish/Scottish ALTHOUGH I prefer my Scottish heritage... I have relatives all over the world from US to Australia and New Zealand, and my last name (Sandberg McGuinne) is Scottish/German
