Anyone here like to play PC games on your home computer? I am not talking of online games, just the ones you buy at Best Buy, take home and pray will install correctly laugh.gif

This Christmas we bought our youngest son Call of Duty 2. It is a first-person WWII game. Wow, is it ever intense! I usually don't play too many PC games (the missus gets pretty pissed when I play and she thinks I should be doing something else).
But I have found myself playing this alot. You can play either as an American, British or Soviet soldier. The common theme is fighting Germans. Either in Russia, North Africa or Europe.
I've really been enjoying it.

I've had a lot of good games over the last few years. But my favorites are (not necessarily in order):

Civilization III and IV
Asheron's Call
Starcraft
Warcraft (in all its incarnations)
Counterstrike

I used to play a whole lot of other ones...my husband and I are gaming junkies. But those are by far the *favorites*.

I play games all day long. I like RPG's and adventure games. I am replayiny the Neverwinter Nights trilogy now. My wish list has Still life sequal and the Longest Journey sequal

I've not done much gaming since I got into the PC world. I used to play a lot of games on the old C=64 though smile.gif

On PC, my main game for now is Pirates! 2004. I also can't get enough of Starcraft and kin. I'd kinda like to get a copy of Doom3, but I'm in no hurry for it. I used to play Railroad Tycoon a lot smile.gif

Micro$oft's Combat Flight Simulator; the first one, flying a Supermarine Spitfire in the Battle of Britain.
Yes; there are far more creative things to do with my time; it is addictive, and a colossal time-waster, so it's not been installed on my computer for a couple of years now.

Padriag call of duty2 is good, but if you like that game
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood will absolutly blow you out of the water. I like the Civilization series but got Brothers in arms for my roomate for Christmas he loves all those games. It is so realistic that the History channel has a TV show based on the videogame and the people that actually fought these battles helped make the game.
I am trying not to get addicted but it is hard )).

"Diablo II: Lord of Destruction" and all of the "MechWarrior" games are permanently installed on my PC.

I need a really good single-person (non-online) RPG, something in the medieval/fantasy realm.

I'm not much of a PC gamer. I don't have a lot of games, and most of them are for Mac. I have a PC now, and the only game I have for that is the You Don't Know Jack! trivia game.

The Case of the Silver Earring . . . my favorite Game

JPadraig, it's good to see you again!

Hubby enjoys Civilization 1-4 (just got 4 for Christmas), Pirates, Quake 4, Age of Empires 3, and used to play Tribes and Halo, though doesn't now. He's really been favoring the Civilization series more than anything else. Loves 4!

Our girls are into Warcraft, Civilization 1-3 (haven't had a chance with 4 yet rolleyes.gif ), ZooTycoon 1 & 2, Quake (which I hate to see them on!!), StarWars Battlefront 2, Halo and Tribes.

I don't really play games, except rarely, and the ones I will play are more puzzle-solving varieties (Beyond Atlantis). Long ago, many many moons ago, (pre-kids) hubby tried to introduce me to PCgaming by way of SimCity. I did like it, found it intriguing to handle all those aspects, etc....a bit too well, though. He got me started just before noon. Shortly afterwards he came down to see how things were progressing, and asked what I was thinking of for dinner that night. I shrugged, kept playing. It was when he came down to tell me good-night (just a little while later, it seemed!) that I was stunned/shocked/ashamed to find out I'd spent ALL DAY playing that game!! sad.gif jawdrop.gif Haven't touched it since. (Hubby was greatly amused, btw).

Dreamer1 - that is funny. I, too have spent many hours playing a game, only to get my ears boxed by my wife, who is not amused by an adult playing computer games so much!
I have a friend that regularly crawls into bed at 3:00 or 4:00 in the a.m., from playing his games!

Posted by: SCShamrock 05-Jan-2006, 03:30 PM
I have played Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon with much amusement. However, there is only one game I play these days. Since 2004 I have played Tiger Woods PGA Tour. I play online but it is an installed PC game that can be played offline. There are several ways to compete with other players. I play on a game ladder which is a website specifically designed to track member's games. Also, I manage a small club on the game server. My back injury is the only thing that allows me enough time to waste on such a fruitless endeavor. smile.gif

Battlefield 2
Starcraft (broodwars) expert in that game rank in the world
Battlefield 2 special forces
Counter strike

Battlefield 2 is my most favorite game seem like I cant get enough of that

J Padraig,

I think your friend may be playing a bit too much! rolleyes.gif My hubby spends most of his free time playing games, but I don't mind because he enjoys it so much. Besides, it helps to keep your mind active (like other puzzles do) and it's helped our girls learn to develop strategy, understand logistics, accept more responsibility, and to be more alert in general....all good things! (Maybe you could run those by your wife, and point out that it's healthy for us grown-ups, too!) laugh.gif I think it keeps us young at heart, and what's wrong with that?

I don't play a lot of games but right now I am pretty well hooked on World of Warcraft. Beyond that, I have Neverwinter Nights installed and Tribes 2. At work, our group plays games during lunch (bonding activities) so there I have Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, Halo and Half-life installed. All older games but they run fine on the machines here.

Really, any game that requires thought vs twitch gaming is likely to pique my interest. I don't have it anymore, but I loved The Incredible Machine. It was a great game, basically you needed to use a random set of parts to get a marble to move from start to finish.

Thinking back on it, I'd have to say that my all-time favorite game has to be Harpoon (a naval warfare sim). This was back when I had a Mac Plus with a whopping 1MB of RAM!

I've just spent a good four+ hours playing games this evening... tongue.gif

but I am getting so hooked on "Animal Crossings" Gamecube wink.gif

If i don't watch it i can sit and play a game for 5 or 6 hours and not even realize it (not lately but when things are normal) but my favorites are

Soldier of Fortune 2
Civ3
Tiger woods Pga tour(haven't got the new one yet, no time to play it)
Star Wars Galaxies
and im beginning to get into Counter Strike Source

But once everything gets cleaned up and back to normal down here ill be hard at the video games again.

I love Call of Duty. I had never played PC games until a buddy of mine introduced me to his favorite game, Medal of Honor a couple years ago. I got hooked on that one for about 6 months.

After he and his wife moved across the country, I went to a PC gaming arcade around the corner from where I lived, and continued to play Medal of Honor.

But, then I was told about Call of Duty, and it's been all about that game ever since.

I've been playing it so long that I smoke through it on Veteran level. I even went multiplayer and generally I rank at highest level on just about any server.

Hey, when you're stressed out, it's a great escape. It beats drugs, alcohol, and bad relationships.

Hello again Rindy.

I haven't seen either of those games, but I've seen other games I bet are like them.

Like I said, games never did appeal to me much, not even pinball, or pong.

I like tennis, baseball, soccer and such, only because they're physical and I'm more of a participater than a spectator.

I don't like just sitting around, but these WWII games just captured my interest so much. It may be because my father never talked to me about WWII.

He told my oldest brother somethings but never told me. So, I've always been curious about WWII. I even collected military issue items from WWII.

Other than that, games just don't appeal to me. Odd, isn't it?

Posted by: Sekhmet 11-Jan-2006, 12:35 AM
Welp, it happened.

My husband got me hooked on World of Warcraft. Here's hoping I come out for food and air.

Yea all my gamer friends are very emersed in WOW. I have resisted so far.

I have been keeping my eye on a game the the original people who started EQ (back when it was great) are making. They are making it with Microsoft and like them of hate them they have lot of money and this game looks like it may be the next big thing. They just started beta and want to release late this year.

Unfortunately, my PC doesn't have the room for some of those really big games, though I'd love to play "Star Wars: Galaxies or Age of Empires.

I have a MahJongg game that I bought for our PC. I got hooked on it when a friend of ours introduced me to it, when I was pregnant w/Wally, 9 years ago. It's my favorite game and I can soend hours doing it....so does that count?? lol

I know it isn't primarily a computer game, but is anyone hooked on Su Doku? It's a math game where you have to figure out the sequence of the numbers on the board. I suck at math so I don't play it, but my mom is addicted to it. She does the puzzles in both the local papers. I'm more of a crossword person.

Oh, and I forgot to mention two games on my PC-the solitaire and pinball games that came with the PC biggrin.gif tongue.gif !

He's a pinball wizard
There has to be a twist
The pinball wizard's got
Such a supple wrist

You know Pete Townshend has probably been approached many times about a "Tommy" pinball machine biggrin.gif ...

Posted by: Lil 15-Jan-2006, 12:27 PM
heheh, I love that pinball game! I'm pretty good at it cause when I was a teen, I must have spent hours playing the pinball games at home (my stepdad bought me one, full size) and at the game place downtown, Scratch and Tilt. I could spend about 2 hours paying on 2 quarters!

As for Sudoku, I'm with you, I suck at math!

I love, love, love the MYST series. I still need to play some of the later ones. I like that type of game as long as they are done well. I have a hard time getting into the games where the only objective is to kill as many peons/soldiers/monsters/little green men as you can.

I also play the Sims a lot. Designing the houses is more fun then actually playing the game though.

Oh, and Freecell and Solitair.

A bunch of pixels and some egos. It can be good for some laughs at times too. I remember the first time I played Quake III Arena with a friend, On multiple occasions in quick succession he ran headlong into point-blank range of my quad rockets. I almost felt bad pulling the trigger a time or two. Although that was only after he had re-spawned.

LOL!

And then there was the time I was playing UT with some friends from work (who were actually much more practiced at such games than myself), I think I just about ran one of them out of one match because he couldn't figure out where the shots were comming from causing him to re-spawn every time as soon as he got to his camp where he was sniping from. I'd found a 2x6 board laying across an apparently obscure part of the map across from his beloved sniping position. And what's better, a box of shells for the sniper rifle spawned at the end of that board. So I sat there sniping the sniper. Kinda like how Viccini tells Fessik to take care of Wesley in The Princess Bride. Just I wasn't as sportsman like. Get the rifle, stand on the board and in just a second Nosmoking is going to come to the window looking for victims below. As soon as his head is in view, BOOM! Head Shot. I don't know now how many times newbie me did that before I for whatever reason lost my advantagous position. I don't even remember now (unfortunately) where that board was at, or on what map. Kinda fun to sit there in such a game and snipe the sniper.

I really enjoy playing:

Pirates
Battlefield 2
FarCry, 64-bit of course
Battle for Middle Earth I and II for the reason I am in it.. No, the game play is great.

I enjoy just losing myself in these kinds of games.

I'm hooked on SuDoku...some of the easy puzzles are way to easy...but the tough ones...they take me a couple hours. I was always a nut for numbers...don't know why. I really wouldn't call it a "math" game. It's basically just organizing the numbers into the right sequence without overlapping. There's no real mathmatical function being applied to the numbers.

Thought about picking up a computer version of the game but for now I'll play the puzzles in the newspaper.

Other computer games...well, I have Clue and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire that I play on occassion. I also have Warcraft II but rarely if ever fire that up (don't even think I re-installed it after the last time my puter crashed).
