Hello Everyone! I know that I have not been here for months. I did go to the Potomac Celtic Festival with my love and I did see Gaelic Storm in concert. They didn't perform the Titanic song, however. I have been busy with my love. We just got engaged this past Sunday. I have also been posting on other boards. I'm enjoying my summer. I had an awesome time in Phoenix in May. I am returning to Phoenix to be with my fiance when he visits his mother.

We're going back to Phoenix in October. I forgot to post the month when we were returning. Unfortunately, I can't remember nor find a way to edit my posts.

QUOTE (Siobhan Blues @ 24-Feb-2005, 01:14 PM)
Okay, did anyone else notice how Jesus was noticably present at the Grammy awards?!? I loved it! I have no idea who Kanye West is, but when he started singing his nominated song "Jesus Walks" I sure sat up to find out... this song is about life's negative side and how people need salvation through Jesus. Kanye won both best song and best album (rap) for this number - think of what a 'plug' that is for Christ!

Then the best pop performance for a group went to Los Lonely Boys, a trio whose sound is Hispanic/country/rock - now I had already gotten their album and love it because there is some FABulous guitar there. In the liner notes I'd been pleased to see them blatantly talk about their faith & Christ... but the song they performed on the show and won an award for is called "Heaven" and it actually is a prayer to God about waiting to get to heaven!! Awesome. I love these guys!

Best rock performance went to my beloved U2's song "Vertigo" which is brillant indeed for its perfection as a rock song you simply can't resist dancing to... it doesn't talk about God, but whoever buys the album 'How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' because they like the single is going to be slapped upside the head with
Jesus. 'Yahweh' is about - you guessed it, Yahweh! So many of the other tunes talk about faith & salvation & God in our lives, the album is even talked about in the press as being U2's most explicitly Christian album yet. Now that's what I call 'being in the world but not of it'.

I am so painfully aware how decadent our world is, how morally decrepit it is becoming, and how as a society we are spiraling downhill at a dizzying rate. It almost depresses me to see how bad things have gotten, and as my talk of Jesus often falls on the deaf ears of people so naive as to think that whatever we each choose to believe is true just because we want it to be... but then I see others taking a stand for Christ out in the public arenas and I realize that there are a lot more Christians out there than I know about. It's encouraging!

Siobhan Blues

Amen!

Considering all the "New testament" scriptures what was the message Jesu was trying to get across to his followers.

I am not looking for bible quotes or speculations... just the answer to what was the message that was to be spread.

He came to die for our sins but also to teach us about how we are to live and love. He changed people's lives.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I found out today that The Rising is actaully only the first book in a prequel trilogy! Cool! I thought the series was over, and now I have three new books to look forward to! Four if you include the sequel that won't be out until 2007 (I believe).

Also, there is a new, 10th anniversary edition of Left Behind on the market. It includes a fold-out timeline of the series as well as intervies with Jenkins and LaHaye and other features. Rest assured I will be buying a copy this week! biggrin.gif

I wish they would come out with a book they could call The Left Behind Companion. In it they could provide plot summaries for all bollks in all 4 series, as well as detailed looks at all of the major characters. It could serve as a combiantion Left Behind Who's Who, atlas, dictionary and encyclopedia, detailing all of the people, places, and events in all of the books. It could even feature a comparative timeline showing where the events in all 4 series occur in relation to events in the other books. Maybe someday! smile.gif

All sounds good to me.

Aye!!! beer_mug.gif I love them on the movie Titanic! I did a search on the web just a week ago to see which band played in the movie Titanic. I found out ir was Gaelic Storm. I then got the idea of taking my boyfriend to some Celtic festival this year, since he and I both love the movie Titanic. I decided to check out the site of the Potomac Celtic Festival. Lo and behold, I found out that the night concert at the Potomac Celtic Festival stars Gaelic Storm. My boyfriend and I are going to have such an awesome time! thumbs_up.gif

wonderful for you 3 Ravens! What a great experience and you get to be with the wonderful band. Let us know all about the evening, ok? when does this all occur? Have fun and keep us posted!

I've worked for them too. I helped volunteer at the Potomac Celtic Festival in June 1999. I will be going as a customer this June with my boyfriend. Aye!

I'll be darned. I didn't know there was another Iona. The problem is that while Iona (The Christian Praise Group) is definitely Christian, they are also of the Celtic persuasion. So while they may not be "trad", I would say that either could be discussed here. (I have seen the likes of Wolfstone and Seven Nations on here, which are definitely celtic rock.) Man, that's confusing. Thanx for letting us know, though!

OK guys, back up 20 and punt! Are we talking Iona, the Christian praise group, or Iona, the Celtic trad group? My money is on the latter, given this site......
If so, the lead singer is Barbara Ryan, and she is a super nice person. They are based outside of Washington, DC.

Aye! thumbs_up.gif You got it right! I think both are great! I was wondering the same thing. I know. it's easy to get the two confused. biggrin.gif

And if you get a chance, the Christian CD that she released with Christian artist Margaret Becker and Clannad's Máire Brennan, called In Christ Alone, is excellent too IMHO!

I see you're talking about the New Age group. I love Journey to the Mourn. There is also a local Mid Atlanitc group called Iona, whose leader is Barbara Ryan. I believe the starter of this thread was referring to the Mid Atlantic, local to Washington D.C. group. I can understand how people can get the two Iona groups confused. I love em both!

Very excited tonight to hear from the Celtic Music group IONA! I have seen them in concert many times and they put on a wonderful show. Especially their circle dance is always a favorite with the kids.

I remember they even have a few Celtic Dancers that come along with the shows.

Looking forward to receiving their CD's and we will get them up on the broadcast ASAP! biggrin.gif

Which IONA, are you talking about? The Christian New Age group or the local to Washington D.C. group with Barbara Ryan. It sounds like you are talking about the local to Washington D.C. group, starring Barbara Ryan. I love both bands! IONA is best known at the Potomac Celtic Festival. Barbara Ryan, the lead singer is the one in charge of the festival. I once volunteered for the Potomac Celtic Festival and she was my boss! I plan on taking my boyfriend in June to the Potomac Celtic Festival. I'll have to let him see them too! Aye!

Some of my favorites:

Far and Away - Good stroy, I just get irritated that Tom Cruise's fake Irish accent comes and goes. If you've got to fake it, at least try to keep it through out, Tom! Sheesh!

The Secret of Roan Inish, and The Seventh Stream - I've lumped these two together becasue they are both about Selkies, which I adore! Both are excellent. I highly recommend them!

Riverdance, and Lord of the Dance - Still wonderful after all this time!

Braveheart - Wonderful movie!

A movie to avoid like the plague - Druids - I was SO disappointed in this movie. I t stars Christopher Lambert from the Highlander movies, so I thought it would HAVE to be good... Boy did I get fooled! ABSOLUTLEY HORRID acting in this movie. I've had several people tell me that the plot of the movie was good if you can get past the acting. Well, I couldn't... maybe you can...

Aye! I love selkies! I like The Secret of Roan Inish and Seventh Stream!

Three Ayes for Braveheart! beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif

I love being kind to people. Although I can't remeber everythng I do at the top of my head. I remember picking up a cell phone yesterday for someone who droped it on the escalator. I dedicate my life to doing things unto my Lord. I enjoy especially being good to my honey, whom God sent to me for me to marry. It is God who bonds us together. thumbs_up.gif
