Hello all!

As a Christian, I am not really satisfied with my member name, wizardofowls. The word "wizard" implies things about me that I'm not sure I want associated with me. For a while now I have been toying with the idea of changing it to something else, but I'm afraid it might be inconsiderate to everyone else to do so now after all of this time. What do you think? Could you adjust to a new name for me?

Some of the names I am considering:

in_not_of
bloodbought
free_indeed
Whosoever
Kings_kid
Delivered
paid_in_full
Christian_Gael

Like any of these? Other suggestions? Let me know!

Posted by: Raven 24-May-2004, 10:29 PM
what if you were

Minister o fowls
or
Christian o fowls

that would be equally unwieldy

just joking tongue.gif

seriously Allan I don't think anyone will think any more or less of you regardless of what you decide.

If you are uncomfortable with your handle by all means change it and we will adapt. I believe that the rules state that you must return to zero posts though in the event of a name change (back me up here someone wink.gif )

If I think of some more cool options like the one above, you can count on me to post them!

Peace

Mikel

HMMMM! That changes things! I'm not sure I want to go back to 0 posts! I'll have to thnk this thing through a little further!

Posted by: CelticRose 24-May-2004, 11:29 PM
Yeah, Allen! You have 400 posts now. I see nothing wrong with WizardofOwls. I think it is a fine name and truly different. It doesn't mean that you are a wizard or wish to be. It is just a name!

CelticRose? Heck I am half English, Irish and Scottish. The rest of me is half Italian! Although I hear some Celts went into Italy and Sicily! I don't really know how true this is. LOL I love the Celtic culture and the music...............that is all that matters to me.

you be whoever you what to be and we will adjust just fine should you decide to change! BTW, I changed my username when I first came here too! No big deal.

If you decide to change, I really like "King's Kid." I will check on whether you lose your posts.

wizardofowls,

The name you have is a good one. Most wizard are nothing but learned men (or women) that a tribe was in awe of. If one of us were to go back to Brian Baru's or Cuchulan time, we would be considered wizards. Now Sorcerers on the other hand.....

Satan will be so disappaointed if you change your name.

You are over thinking, my friend. Imagination and fun is what this board is about. I don't think anyone has looked at your name and said, "AAh Haaa!!! one of those." But here are a few variations to consider.

Chicken Lord
Befeathered Holiness
Evil Emu
Demon Dodo
Duck Master

Hey Raven, change your name and see if your posts go back to "0", LOL joking. If you would likethe name Prodical_son would be cool.

Just my thoughts.

You know, despite having a handle like oldraven, I'm fairly sure people in here know I'm not in fact a large black bird of many years. wink.gif

I like your current name.

Posted by: Annabelle 25-May-2004, 11:58 AM
Wizard doesn't matter to us if you change your name or not. That is your choice. Ask the great and powerful oz if it goes back to "0" or not before you do anything and then decide from there.
All of us who have come to know you thru your posting know you are a servant of God and we accept you just the way you are dear fellow. It takes alot of courage to be a christian these days as they sometime's aren't considered fashionable but then that is that persons loss. All of us accept each other here for whatever they believe, Christians, Pagan & Son of Satan(Peckry, haha) So don't worry so, it gives you wrinkles. We accept and don't try to change. That is the real beauty to all of the friendships on here.

Now Satan might get upset when he see's Peckery's on his Most Wanted List! He's not even sure he wants him....I was drinking a soda and saw Peckery's posting and almost spit the mouthful out laughing...ya got ta love him just as we do you!

ummm, I think I need some rest laugh.gif

Yes, you can change your name through your account/control panel and you will not lose any of your posts. It will change all of your prior posts, so make sure you announce who the new you is!

Wizard of Owls,

It's always your call of course. But I see nothing anti-Christian about the name. It's not like you're being non-Christian by wearing it. It's not driving Christ from your heart by using the name is it? (I'd hope not)

Allen,

When I first arrived here I signed on with just the first part of my e-mail address as my name. When I became aware of what the site was about I changed my name to MacEoghainn (nobody seemed to notice [nor care cry.gif ].

But what if Celtic-Rose were to change her name?

MacEoghainn is my Clans name in Gaelic.

Fear-leanmhainn an Rìgh (if we can trust the "Wiz's" Scot-Gaelic translation smile.gif ) means: Follower of the King (or probably more literally, the man who follows the King). The King in this case would be Jesus.

Someone wanted to know how I came up with the name wizardofowls in the first place. Well, its a long story...

Back in the old days I used to love reading fantasy novels and playing AD&D. These pursuits consumed me. Quite literally, every waking hour of every day was spent passionately working on an imaginary world I was creating for role-playing, or reading fantasy books, or playing AD&D with my circle of friends. I even carried a note pad around with me at work in case I was inspired with some new detail for my world!

I also used to love fantasy art. One of my favorite pieces was a painting of a wizard in white (I think??) robes on a gray (I think??) horse. (Or maybe its the other way around... Can't remember for sure...) He is surrounded by a flock of owls. The painting is beautiful and done in pastel shades of pinks and blues. The name of the painting? "The Wizard of the Owls." (Can't remember the artist's name for sure... Janni Wurtz, maybe?? Anyway, I think it was used as the cover of some fantasy book centered around the King Arthur legends... "This Way to Avalon," maybe? Or "This Way to Camelot?" Its something like that...)

When I first got my computer 6 years ago, I tried and tried to find an e-mail box name that I liked that hadn't already been taken. I couldn't find anything. Finally, out of desperation, I typed in the name wizardofowls, and surprise, surprise, it was accepted! I have a terrible memory, and trying to remember what sign-in name I used on different web groups is beyond me, so out of habit I always use wizardofowls. So now, not only do I have 2 e-mail boxes in that name, but I have also subscribed to 14 Yahoo Gaelic groups, 1 MSN Gaelic group, 2 Gaelic e-mail lists, a Gaelic forum, and this group, all under the name wizardofowls.

2 and a half years ago when I gave my heart to Christ, I felt impressed to give up all attachments having anything to do with magic and fantasy. (I was heavily invovled in this stuff. I even once considered converting to Wicca, but decided against it.) I felt that as long I was still involved with this stuff it would interfere with my walk with God. The Bible says no man can serve two masters, and as long as I was throwing all of my time into this stuff, I couldn't serve God the way I should. So over the past few years I have been gradually trying to sever all ties with fantasy so that I can serve God as I feel I should. The name wizardofowls is one of the last holdouts from that time, and the change that I have been dreading the most since getting rid of it will basically require me to start from scratch with a whole new on-line persona... new e-mail boxes, quitting and rejoining so many groups... MAJOR PAIN IN THE RUMP! So I thought that if I started here it would at least be a first step down that long, complex road...

Now, though, I'm totally confused and not sure what to do... Thanks for all of your input... I guess I'll just leave it the wiz for now, but don't be surprised if - at some point in the future - you see a new name above my old avatar...

Posted by: Annabelle 26-May-2004, 09:32 PM
Whatever you decide should be best for you. Christ knows you by any name you call yourself....

Posted by: CelticRose 26-May-2004, 09:49 PM
Allen! What is all boils down to is what is between you and God! You, alone, without us, has to make the decision! We will adjust if you decide to change.

MacE...........love the new name!

Okay, in my previous post, I talked about the painting from which I took my sign-on name. Well, it is titled "Wizard of the Owls" (Not THE Wizard of the Owls). It is by Janny Wurts (misspelled her name in the previous post) and it was used as the cover of the book "That Way Lies Camelot." I am going to try to attach a copy of the painting below.

I actually refer to my mother-in-law (secretly, in the darkest recesses of my tormented brain) as La bruja de las gallinas since she is the chief chicken killer and plucker around the house. She does this deal with her hand that is sort of magical, I think the secret is in the twist of the wrist, anyway, those guys don't stand a chance. (Should of seen her the night she walked back there and one of those devil birds hopped out of the roost and scared her. Despite the fact this was one of the big egg layers, it ended up in the next days soup along with some yucca, culantro, ñame, and fresh corn.)

Interesting local variants abound however. Out here one would generally address a young lady as joven (or la joven to designate the female gender).

Señora is a lady who is either older, or married, or something like that (believe me, sometimes these things can get tricky too, thus the use of the word joven.)

Señorita does indeed mean young lady (never married, and ... ummm.... supposedly... well.... untouched ... if you know what I mean) However, and this is the big however. Out here where I am, if a group of guys are out on a weekend and someone mentions something like, Vaminos, buscamos unas señoritas.(Let's go, find us some girls.) Ummm, the implication is that there will probably be some sort of like, you know, hourly fee involved, and the word señorita is being used in a different way. biggrin.gif Personally, I steer clear of that word completely for fear of making a real social gaff and getting my lights punched out by some 100 lb Tai Kwan Do expert.
