unemployment claims jumped to just over 399,000 after being seasonally adjusted. (6% higher than expected.) Most realized that the end of the holiday sales and returns season would bring an increase but nearly not so great.

Further the economy expanded only a tenth of a percent which is terrible. With Europes economic problems, this is likely to be the start of an ominous trend for 2012.

We have mining companies who want to start mining again in our area. It's just now starting to tun into a big messy fight between those who want the jobs and those who say it will ruin the area.

In Ohio we have been drilling for natural gas by using water injection to free the deposits for some tim. It has created a substantial number of good paying jobs and reduced our natural gas rates. A similar procedure has been used for years in recovering crude oil. Even though Ohio is the site of probably the largest quake in US history (it drastically changed the course of the Mississippi river in the 1800's) and my area is "honey combed" with "sand blows which were a result of that quake. Occasionally farm equipment breaks the crust and becomes mired in the sand. A river boat was found buried hundreds of yards from the present Miss. river in a large sand blow.

The left is blaming mini quakes on gas drilling and trying to halt the jobs. Those quakes have been happening across the tri state area for much longer than the gas drilling. Actually for more years than I have lived.

My interpretation would be "that we are approaching another big quake." Also I have yet to talk with any one here who carries earth quake insurance as I do. If you do not have that rider, insurance does not cover you.

At some point one has to use common sense and put human well being at the front of the line. The ability to find work and provide for ones family is more important than the warm fuzzy ideas that require taxpayer subsidy to get started and to be maintained. Ethanol subsidies have expired as of 12-31-11 and the requirement for 10% ethanol to be blended in gasoline has since helped drive the price of gasoline up. In the 20 plus years since the subsidy began no one was EVER able to make it profitable. Were these corporate welfare programs to end and the money to be spent on inner city poor their income would likely be in excess of 100K a year.

Wind farms are subsidized in their construction, including the foreign materials, subsidized in the electricity produced and the utilities are subsidized in purchasing the higher priced electricity and we the people (who actually pay taxes) support all the subsidies plus pay a higher utility rate.

If you have felt tired lately, the above is but a small portion of the reason!

A weak economy is one thing but when it is our own govt. that causes it with the help of the tree huggers and others of their ilk it should be considered criminal.
