From CNN EUGENE, Oregon (Reuters) -- TV hardly gets much better than this. An Oregon man discovered earlier this month that his year-old Toshiba Corporation flat-screen TV was emitting an international distress signal picked up by a satellite, leading a search and rescue operation to his apartment in Corvallis, Oregon, 70 miles south of Portland. The signal from Chris van Rossmann's TV was routed by satellite to the Air Force Rescue Center at Langley Air Base in Virginia. On October 2, the 20 year-old college student was visited at his apartment in the small university town by a contingent of local police, civil air patrol and search and rescue personnel. "They'd never seen signal come that strong from a home appliance," said van Rossmann. "They were quite surprised. I think we all were." Authorities had expected to find a boat or small plane with a malfunctioning transponder, the usual culprit in such incidents, emitting the 121.5 MHz frequency of the distress signal used internationally. Van Rossmann said he was told to keep his TV off to avoid paying a $10,000 fine for "willingly broadcasting a false distress signal." Toshiba contacted Rossmann and offered to provide him with a replacement set for free, he said. |

I don't know about the rest of you, but this bothers me! TV's are made ( or supposed to be ) for recieving signals, NOT sending them! Makes me wonder what is up with all the new V-chip stuff! Is it safe to sit in front of your tv set in your underwear? Is big brother sitting back watching what goes on in your livingroom? HUmm I wonder if I should unplug the damned box! |

Coming soon to your local channel.
I don't think the Department of Homeland Inquisitions allows that. |

If you unplug the set, what would you do? Where could you go in your undies? |
Posted by: Shadows 22-Oct-2004, 09:44 PM |
I would sit on my stoop and watch the world go by in my undies! LOL! |

Hah, hah! Don't worry - if we were all sitting in front of the TV with our undies on, big brother would surely quit watching! I think that is pretty hilarious. Thanks for that, Shadows! |

You wear undies when you watch telly? |

Since a previous post tells about you depending on your underwear -- and you sit in front of the TV in your underwear -- maybe your underwear can broadcast who you are internationally. |

I was trying to be all inclusive when I said in your underwear..... I hate the damned things and seldom wear them... Is that over share? |

Now that I have wiped the tears from my eyes, from laughing so hard, I would like to ask. What is the update, it is 29 August, 2007. Last post was 8 November 2004. Do we unplug TV's at night, do undies monitor our moves. And if the undies have chips in them wouldn't they be sending info from all rooms of the house. I'm thinking bedroom & bathroom. Might be time to do the yuckie dance........ |

This is also making me wonder about the Cable and Satelite TVs. Are the being transmitted to who knows where? Well if they are, I guess they are in for a real treat. |
