Hey Gang.

I got this email from my son-in-law last night. Many of you know they serve as missionaries in a closed country that does not have freedom of religious expression. I am just passing this on to you so you can join in prayer. Thanks!

Jerusha had a bit of an accident yesterday and we believe that she has a
concussion. We were wondering if you folks would mind asking prayer for
her in church on Sunday. She is fine and seems to be recovering okay.
From everything that we've read, she has all the right symptoms for a
Grade 1 concussion, but she also shows all of the correct recovery
signs. We are watching her very closely for any changes. If we see
anything suspicious at all we are going to take her in. At this point,
we believe that they would tell us to watch her, which we are already
doing. Today at lunch, Michaela found a spot that seemed to be
suspicously soft. We are going to take a look at that here in a little
while. If it is indeed soft and sunken, we'll take her in.

We have a third story loft in our room where the kids often play when
Michaela is getting ready for the day. We were both in our room talking
and we could hear Jerusha calling, "Mommy, look at me! Mommy look at
me!" From what we have gathered from her, she was climbing up onto the
railing and looking over trying to "see Mommy." If you can picture
this, she did not fall from the top of the stairs, but from the railing
overlooking the stairs (the loft is open to the floor beneath). She
toppled over the rail, fell straight down where her upper, outer thigh
hit the stairs, throwing her from there to the floor below. She fell
almost 10 feet. She hit head-first, folding her into a ball, which
knocked the wind out of her. It took about 3 to 4 minutes before she
could breath normally again. There was not outward bruising whatsoever
on her head. For about 10 minutes after the fall, she laid
lethargically on our bed, and then vomited. After that she was very
drowsy. We allowed her to sleep for 10 minutes then woke her up. She
stayed awake, but wanted only to lounge about. When Michaela offered
her lunch, she was very enthusiastic about eating, but when the food was
ready, she only picked at it. She took another nap, sleeping for about
an hour then we caught a taxi to have dinner with the Rosses. She
seemed to be okay, just a little weary. Then she vomited again, this
time everything. We took her home, bathed her, and let her rest. She
played a little, drank lots of Gatorade and then ate some pizza that
evening. She kept everything down. She was restless when she went to
sleep, but slept well through the night. She woke up seemingly happy,
but as the morning went on it became clear that she wasn't really
herself. She was very whiny and easily frustrated, neither of which
are characteristic to her. At church, her Sunday School teacher
remarked to me that "Jerusha is not herself today." She is eating well
today and keeping everything down. She doesn't want to do much in the
way of active play and she is still acting a little odd.

On a bit of a lighter note, while Jerusha was napping, Jeshurun ran
straight into a wall leaving him with a walnut sized knot right in the
middle of his forehead and then Michaela upset a pan of hot oil which
spilled out onto her leg and foot leaving her with a couple of minor
burns. When these two events occurred, we looked at each other
bewildered and then couldn't help but laugh. It must be Murphy's Law!
Michaela told Nick that he had best be careful - he's the only uninjured
family member left!

Please just remember Jerusha in prayer and pray that the Lord would give
us wisdom and perceptiveness as we watch over her in the next few days
and ensuing weeks.

We shall pray for her and your whole family. May the Lord watch over you and keep you all safe. May Jerusha get well soon. May the good Lord hold you all in His hands.

Thanks, Rebecca Ann. I really appreciate it. I just spoke with my daughter a little while ago this morning. Jerusha seems to be somewhat better, but still a little whiny and so forth. They are going to monitor her pretty closely over the next few days and weeks. Thanks for praying!

Not a bad question, Dundee. The country they live in is either feast or famine when it comes to medical facilities. I encouraged them to look carefully into taking her to be looked at, at the risk of being the meddling dad, father-in-law, and grandfather. They have some friends there that are fairly savvy on these things and my son-in-law has dealt with these things in the past. Believe me, if it was up the grandmother and me, we'd have her in a hospital. but I'm having to trust their judgment on this one. I appreciate your asking, though. That obviously needed some clarification.

I will update everyone as i get more information. I am supposed to give them a call late tonight, so hopefully I'll have more news then.

Have a great day and thanks for praying.

I will keep her in my prayers too. I know I am only a nurse but it sounds like she should be seen by a doctor.

Sorry for the long overdue delay in updating the situation on our granddaughter. Everything seems to be going very well. She had some pretty good bruises on her, but her appetite is back and she seems to be perking up back to her old self.

My daughter and son-in-law are still monitoring her behavior, appetite, and so forth, to see if anything unusual develops. Thanks for your continued prayers. If anything new comes up, I'll definitely let everyone know. Have a great day, all!
