No, I am not suggesting we cook up some poor Irish brothers, just a kooky way of introducing myself, a 1st generation Australian Seamus ;-P
I have been hanging around listening and reading for a week or so but I thought I'd better break the ice and say Gday. I guess I am primarily here to discuss and discover awesome Celtic music, my particular fancy being sea shanties, folk tales and murder ballads, that kind of thing.
OK that's all for now! This place looks very friendly; looking forward to joining the throng!
Welcome to Celtic Radio SeamusAnthony. I hope you will enjoy the music and the nice folks here on the forum. It's great to have you here and I hope you'll be posting often.

Greetings
Sounds like you're well on the way to finding what you're after. Might I recommend Great Big Sea, William Pint & Felecia Dale, And Schooner Fare?
When it comes to recommending folk tales though, I will recommend based on the title. Some songs to check out would be "Barbara Allan", "Molly Ban", "The Ballad of Tam Lin", any of a number of incarnations of "Two Sisters", and most any piece collected by Sir Frances Child. Also, Emerald Rose and Heather Dale both have some wonderful pieces that are based on The Mabinogion (Castle of Arianrhod, Culwich & Olwen)
Hope that helps I can suggest more too if you want. Many of the ballads in particular form the bridge between Celtic music and Appalachian folk. Often you'll find the same song in both places.
Thanks for that Aaediwen - plenty for me to wrap my listening gear around! I really appreciate it.
I am such a newbie (in some ways) that "Appalachian" was a word I needed to Google, and that lead me to this, which is the kind of thing I find interesting, although I should point out that I am very much a harmless pacifist not some internet weirdo :-)
If anybody has an interest in modern alt-folk sea shanties and murder ballads then I suggest you check out fellow Aussies at http://myspace.com/brilligacoustic
SeamusAnthony if sea shanties are to your liking I would also highly recommend along with Aaediwen some of the music from Great Big Sea. Huge fan of their work. Enjoy!

Thanks LeeLee, it has been a most warm welcome so far which is great. having time off from "work" for now but will be social media crazy again within ten days, so after that you'll probably see a fair bit of me as I dip into the fun stuff between chores.
