I like the book "Scotland: The Story of a Nation" by Magnus Magnusson. It's just a history of Scotland, but I really liked it! He talks about the long struggle toward nationhood, he explores the roots of the original Scots, and examines the extent to which Scotland was shaped by the Romans, the Picts, the Vikings, and the English. He includes everything from from the first Mesolithic settlers in 7000 B.C. to the present movements for independence. It was one of my favorite books that I have read about Scotland! And I'm not just saying that because I'm Scots/Irish. Haha.

Where would a post like this be without the Outlander & Lord John series by Diana Gabaldon.

I'm reading "Scottish Miscellany: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Scotland the Brave" by Jonathan Green. It's got a lot of facts about the country, but it isn't boring.
