I agree with those who think that turing off requests all night is a BAD IDEA. Several nights this term I was up, either editing my homework for the class I was taking or grading homework for the classes I was teaching, and the requests kept me going! I think it was me and Snoogans in there by ourselves a couple times doing batches of requests... at least to judge by the bands he mentions
QUOTE
Play the same show twice a day for 1- 1 1/2 hours with a twelve hour spread. Meaning, start a show at 1 A.M. and 1 P.M. our time.
I think the 12-hour rotation is a great idea!
Also, your CelticHearts stream is on Live365 for those who want less strident music - without requests by definition. Why duplicate this service?

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing? Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning? ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Just as a suggestion, you may consider featuring some of the tremendous local or regional talent as a one or two hour weekly special. If you are familiar with CBC 1 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, they do this every Saturday night. It is a real hit before the Celtic Colours Festival in October.
I remember when I played on the Jersey Cape, there was little outlet to have new music released or otherwise let good (or even sometimes fair) Celtic Music gain exposure other than the local pub. In my case, it was the 'Ye Ole Angelsey Pub in North Wildwood- so you can imagine the attention after, say, 10 PM.
As I watch my son now grow into the music of our tradition, it would be great to have such an outlet for him in the future. I see you as the beginning of that outlet where the music can grow and be re-introduced into the populations. Perhaps a dream, but many a dream has turned into great realities.
I'm just going to add my two cents worth here. Just thinkng on a global scale, it would be impossible to provide programming appropriate for all time zones in a 24 hour period. So a 12 hour cycle seems appropriate. I think the biggest hurdle is to provide the best of both worlds - programming and requests. Instead of providing large blocks of time, i.e. 1 to 2 hours, maybe a 30 minute program followed by a 30 minute period of requests would be better. Surely a 30 minute period can be tolerated with the understanding that requests are not that far away.
Then dependent upon feedback and stats adjustments can be made.
Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer "am I worth dying for?" - Eleanor Roosevelt
The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools. -- Herbert Spencer, English Philosopher (1820-1903)
Keep this thread going. I will be trying to balance everything off with a fair rotation schedule. I really like some of these suggestions here!
For now, we have alot of stuff playing here and there, etc. We will leave this as is for now until the schedule guide is completed. This helps debug the programming guide. The program guide is probably the most intense piece of code I have written. Enough to drive anyone over the edge.

Some men are drawn to oceans, they cannot breathe unless the air is scented with a salty mist. Others are drawn to land that is flat, and the air is sullen and is leaden as August. My people were drawn to mountains- Earl Hamner Jr.
Here you go! Just keep your wits about you. I wouldn't want to here Japanese opera here.
An additional thought: Is it possible to blend requests in a regular program? For example. Say you wanted to do a full hour, the first half could be programming and the second half be appropriate requests to be inserted in the program? Sort of a particapatory program which could then default to regular programming no one is participating.
Oh yes, anything is possible. It really is a very flexible system. The broadcast software actually has its own language called PAL that is used to program the schedule. It is a little difficult to use and program, thats why I am just now (1 year later) experimenting with it!
I was wondering if we could have more Proclaimers music, we a few songs but not my favorites = Cap in Hand and King of the Road. Thanks

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle Twas St . Patrick himself, sure, that set it; And the sun of his labour with pleasure did smile, And with dew from his eye often wet it. It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the Mireland, and they call it the dear little shamrock of Ireland.
There are a fair few listeners in Scotland includin masel an ah cannae request anymair. That's pants. Ahm aff tae listen tae a blues radio station. Once again it's a case o' America's bigger son. How amusin.
Roger that--I'm a listener in the Central Time Zone (St. Louis area), and I'm working from 4 to midnight...that means that starting at 9 PM my time, I'm treated to nothing but Celtic elevator music. I don't mind the more mellow stuff, so long as it's interspersed with more hard-core tracks, but I lose my job if I fall asleep.

The radio server is running on a Windows 2000 machine. We have a schedule reboot every morning around 6 a.m., hence the reason all streams drop around that time.
Here is a little update on the schedule script (programming guide). The good news is I have almost completed this script. It should be ready this week and it will be completely usable by ALL time zones. I'd say I am about 85% complete. It really has been a very involved programming project and I am happy to say that not too many internet radio broadcasts have this type of feature on their sites.
Like I have been saying, once this script is completed I am going to revisit the schedule and make alot of changes based on the feedback posted here.
