I was wondering if i have not noticed a feature or if i've done soemthing wrong when begining to listen to the station. every time i tune in, i have to select radio, then modem in the sites menu, which i assume is standard for everyone; however I continue to be sent to live356's site from there, and have 3 or 4 popups which soem are aboviously advertisements but the others i dont know if they are relevant. I up graded my winamp, i registered with live356, but i still have to go through this bit of a process to be able to listen. When i used to listen to other webradio stations i could type or save an address into winamp and could listen directly to them. is there a way to do this with highlander radio? or can I open winamp to the station from highlander radio's website without having to leave it and pass on to live356?

just a quick recipe I have used camping and hunting because its so simple, but also often make it on a sunday to take abit of soup with me each day for lunch during the week.

From "Scottish SOups and Stews" by vicki b. McLeod

1 pound potatoes, peeled and diced (2-3 large potatoes)
1 pound carrots , peeled and diced
1 pound onions, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons water + 1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 ounces dried lentils
2 ounces pearl barley
1 teaspoon mixed herbs, (thyme, marjoram, and savory; or use a liked poultry seasoning) *i usually go abit heavier with the savory than the others myself*
10 cups of stock chicken, beef, or lamb *when at the campfire i will go traditional and use the lamb*

in a large soup pot melt butter and brown onions over medium heat. Add the prepared vegetables and stir well to coat with the butter. cook slowly, without browning the other vegetables, for about 10 minutes. Add stock, and bring to a boil. dissolve the cornstarch in water and gradually add to the stock. Add lentils, the barley, and the seasonings. reduce heat to medium, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. serve hot in large bowls, garnish with generous spoonful of cream and chopped parsley. makes 10-12 servings.

this is great with a sandwich or a salad for lunch, makes a great dinner meal with some home made bread and some mead to drink...it can also be used as a wonderful base for heartier soups and stews

I feel we are born ignorant, life is to teach us good, "evil" is simply the lack of understanding and exposure to good. I know many feel this is a rather shallow goody goody attitude that would be dropped by the first major trauma in a persons life, however I feel if taken into a deeper consideration..its far truer than a simple statement than that of we are born evil and die much the same.

In the past scotlands faith held strongly with pre-destination, and in many parts still does. can we the descendents, or simple celtic enthusiast hold with such a conviction in a far more secular time? could this point be one of the stronger holdovers from the "old religions" ? Would like to know if anyone has a perspective on this or something informative.

I think when pondering the use of a pen name, consideration for the audience you hope to reach is likely the most important...prose and poetry should always be by your true name, your child hood name, not the name your parents used for you but what you thought of as yourself. short stories and longer endeavors perhaps need other names..a maiden name, last name first and first name last, your last favorite pets name..whatever speaks to you and can grab the attention of the wondering eye of the reader..

you might try HTTP://www.tabcrawler.com guitar and bass guitar tabs, it's mostly rock music, modern and classic, but i have a more than once surprised myself when searching the site for folk and celtic music and not just finding a submission of the song i'd in mind, but sometimes from the artist that brought the song to my attention.

With the death of Tom Rowe, Schooner Fares bass player/tin whistle/vocalist, from cancer in feb 2004, perhaps the station could gather some of the listeners favorite schooner fare songs and play them in a short memorial afternoon for Tom. Just a thought..

certainly bill gates contributed to anyone with a computer, us for example, i'd much prefer the new scottish parliament to come up with a similar award, knight of scone or something.. now that i would object bill gates being awarded.. just out of pettiness i suppose.

I love the piping and the dancing and the drumming and just everything at the games, its a great way to spend the day, and if the vendors are local craftsman then you can get some great buys on fantastic nicknacks

It's always a lift when everyone knows its your birthday and you are bubbly for the day. ofcourse having a setting in the personal settings that would allow those who don't care for it would be appropriate if birthdays were shown.

2 months in the year now, and there are many things i wished i had decided would have been my resolution so that i would have some thing to help me stick to it rather than just thinking about getting around to it...still, I don't get depressed when i fail at accomplishing something that needed a special day just for it rather than an average days responsibility if you take my meaning.

I work at my home computer throughout the day and night at research or data entry, so I listen when ever i am at my desk. much easier than the stacks of scottish/irish/celtic cd's that used to clutter the bare spots on my desk. Keeps me going strong without the excuse of having to change cd's too.. which i suppose is a good thing.

The south was protecting what they thought was their finacial well being, much the same as the colonists did at the taxation without representation which started the revolutuonary war. The confederate soldiers were being just as patriotic as the union soldiers. Slavery was a major money maker, either in the act of selling slaves or the slave labor that worked the huge plantations, and so was a big target or political platform to use, but it was not what the whole war was about by any means. As they say, Money is the root of all evil.
