Can't wait to see em at Green Lane Festival again in 2 weeks!

I have a thing for the more traditional(and yes sometimes over played/remade) irish tunes, and after hearing their rendition of Rosin The Bow I can honestly say I was hooked on the Barleyjuice. I gotta confess that I am one of the ones that request this song and band so much the request button next to their song names are getting worn out |

As simple and probably over-used as my name combinations are they fit me well. I have a penchant for wandering aimlessly whenever such a situation presents itself(not as often as I would like these days). As I always carry one of my tin whistles with me I often end up under a tree, on a beach, or some various other place playing/practicing whatever tunes seem to strike me at the moment.
Though I really have been given many nicknames by many people for many(go figure) reasons, I find this the most appropriate and liked name for myself on any and all celtic/irish/music sites I frequent( does a visit once a month count as frequent now??? ) |

There is supposedly more to the curse. Babe Ruth, after finding out he was being traded to NY, got so angry he supposedly told the Bo Sox they would never win another world series.(He also threw a piano or some sort into one of the lakes in boston to solidify the curse he put on them. This came up last year when the boston franchise sent divers into these lakes trying to find the piano and bring it up to "life the curse") |

If you want to snack then buy a lot of celery. Celery is basically a non food, as in it has nothing in it bad or good, hehe. Celery is basically water so you can eat all if it you want morning , noon, or night and have no ill effect on your diet, Just make sure you resist the urge to dip it into peanut butter or some such tempting bad food |

Urian has it right on this one.
In highschool I played 3 sports, football in the fall, wrestling in the winter, baseball in the spring, and weighed in at around 190-210(am 6'1 my freshman year and around 230 by my senior year). When I went to college and stopped the sports I gained weight, a lot of it. Last May, 6 years after leaving highschool I weighed in at close to 300 and tried every fad diet under the sun to lose the weight with nothing working.
In the end I had to change the way I lived my life. I chose to stay away from all greasy foods, candies, sugars, etc opting to eat more chicken, fish, turkey, etc and a lot of greens. With a daily dose of arobics(at least 45min-1hour) and a weight training regiment I'm down around 50 lbs in a few months. The key is not trying to lose 50 lbs in a month, cause you will gain it all back with interest as well as lose muscle mass in the process.
Also look into things as simple as vitamins. I went to my local Vitamin Shoppe and got a good daily vitamin as well as Borage Oil and Omega-3 capsules. Fish oil is great for the body(but tastes.....less then appealing so I would reccomend the capsule form) |

To describe what Celtic music is would probably take quite a while, so luckily I found a website that might be able to help you out a bit.
Click me!
As for my own opinions, besides my love of Irish and Scottish Airs and laments I tend to listen to another genre that in my opnion falls within the bounds of celtic music, Irish Rebel and drinking songs. Irish rebel songs strike a chord within me due to their nature of keeping alive the struggles and hardships of my family, ancestors, and an entire race of people. The Irish have never tried to forget what has been done/happened to them as a whole, instead they have, through songs and stories, brought it to the forefront of their being as a way to inspire hope and celebrate the irish spirit. I believe this is one of the core aspects of traditional celtic music, to chronicle the spirit and existance of the past.
Some bands you might look into:
The Clancy Brothers Thommy Maken Paddy Reilly WolfeTones Chieftans Pogues Shaun Davey Liam O'Flynn
there are too many artists to list, but a little searching wil bring you many more talented celtic musicians |

I recently aquired a CD by Loreena McKennitt which contained the song All Souls Night due to hearing it played on HR. Every once in a while I will hear a song that I am totally drawn too for some reason I have yet been unable to figure out, and this one definitely falls into that catagory. |

Aye I do use soulseek, my name is RovingWhistler.
My Clarke Sweetone plays the second octave quite well though my Clarke original always seems to have too much of a breathy sound to it. I have a few whistling tutor books as well as some song books that I use to pick/learn songs, though I find myself spending hours searching for sheeet music to a song I heard and happen to love. |

I am a Tin Whistle player myself. I've only been playing a few months but am hopelesly addicted to it. Coming from no musical background my Uncle did send me a whistle he made himself a few years back while living just outside Killarney. The whistle did not play quite right but was enough to prod me to get the resources and whistles that I needed to learn.
I have to say that D whistles are my favorite as they allow you to play along with most any other instrument with little to no adjustments needed on the part of the other players. my playtime is split between my tweaked Generation D and Clarke original whistles while I wait for the day I finally can pick up a Sindt D whistle.
As for what I play, that would be mainly lamants and slow airs. For some reason these tunes seem to stir my soul more then the jigs and reels(though they are a must for any good party). I also have a tendency to turn non airs into airs to suit my tastes better(afterall, irish traditional music is not about conformity, but whatever moves one the most right?) |

Greetings all. I happened upon celtic radio a few weeks back and to be honest, nothing else has played on my computer since then. With my family being an Irish one, though I was not born there, traditional irish/celtic music runs through my blood(so you can imagine I am sure my reaction to finding this site and radio station- If only I could play it in my car all would be well ).
As my username suggests I am a huge Tin Whistle enthusiast, as my collection of Whistles can attest to (Ok so I suffer from WhOA, but what whistle player doesn't) and enjoy nothing more then finding a quiet beach or hill and spending hours playing the whistle. I also lurk the chiffandfipple website and forums as well.
Well no more rambling for me. Tis good to meet you all and I'm sure I will be posting more long winded rambles in the time to come (blame the long windedness on the whistles, tis their fault i swear). |
