I live in America and sadly, Gaelic music is not as widely popular as I think it should be. I was wondering if anyone knows of any contemporary Gaelic groups or artists that I might be interested in.

Welcome to Celtic Radio Pendragon83. I hope you will enjoy the music as well as the wonderful people you will find here on the forums. I am glad you like Gaelic music, I do as well. Some bands that came to my mind when I read your post were, Runrig, Capercaillie. I know there's more just can't think of them at the moment. lol.
There's a lot of helpful folks here I am sure they will be glad to help you out. I hope this helps some. I look forward to you posting here on the forums.

Mary Jane Lomond, I second the vote for Capercaillie, then there's Altan, and of course Clannad and Enya

A few suggestions, The Rankin Family from Cape Breton. A group that's tougher to find but wonderful Tannas from Scotland, and if it's Irish you're after try to get a copy of Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's cd Daybreak, on the Compass label. Agree too anything by Capercaille is magical. Cheers!

I saw The Chieftains on Saturday and wrote about it in my blog.

They've been playing for 47 years and they are one of my favourites.
Here's their website:

I can surely add Wolfstone, Ashley MacIsaak, Milladoiro and Dan Ar Braz...but they are only a few in the sea of great celtic Musicians.
My preferred are Capercaillie, the singer Karen Matheson (that also has a solo career) is fantastic !

Runrig's lyrics are posted on the web, with translations, so you can really get a look at them, or even use them for study when you get to studying the language eventually. smile.gif

As for local groups, Pendragon, based in Rhode Island, has been performing for many years and is widely regarded for their wide ranging selections.
