Is it just me or does the night sky seem out of kilter to you?
I notice that several of the stars are not where they usually are at this time of year and the contelations are off by up to 2 to 5 degrees...
I have been a sky observer for many , many years and things seem strange to me.
Anyone else observing these things?

I haven't noticed anything, but at 3:00AM when I'm having my first cup of coffee and a smoke is the only time I get to see any stars. I'm in bed before the sun goes down most times.

Sorry I can't help you here, Shadows. I haven't seen stars in the night sky since back in May, and won't until sometime about the middle of next month. It's that "Midnight Sun" thang. Little Sparrow of the Hawks hasn't said anything, and I'm sure she would have had she noticed something. She watches the sky more than anyone else I know.

shadows as a "watcher" i am sure you are aware of this just adding it for reference...
...earth is subject to four motions in its movement through space: rotation about its axis, revolution around the sun.... processional motion (a slow conical movement or wobble) of the axis... and the solar motion (the movement of the whole solar system with space).....
i would say your observations are probably due to processional momement... what are you using for your measurments? first thing i would suspect is equipment being slightly off kilter... but i am sure you already checked that out.... most peculiar....
or maybe prophecy? "and there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations with perplexity.... "Luke 21:25
I'm not that much of a watcher, except for the moon phases -- virtually impossible in New York with the city lights (though I did win a beer the night of the Con Ed blackout three years ago, spotting Mars rising -- the loser thought it was an airplane, it was that huge )
I don't think it would be precession -- the constellations on the ecliptic have moved back about 30 degrees in about 20,000 years, so there is no way you'd see a couple of degree shift in one man's lifetime (though I hope it's a particularly long lifetime ).

Well here in Sweden the stars are behaving crazy too... I am afraid I don't know what you call the constellations, but one that we call Karlavagnen (or the Great Bear - Ursa Major) is definately not where it should be - it could be that I am confused since I recently moved, but no I donnae think so...

Will put this here for lack of a better place. This week the sun and Jupiter enter Sagittarius within a day of each other -- Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, respectively. You Archers -- enjoy the energy, use the time and your own strength well, and give thanks for change.

The shift in the sky seems to continue from my vantage point, there is something there...
I do think we ( the earth ) are on an unusual wabble right now, it all started with that last big quake that set off the sunami that took so many lives in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific area.
Here in the Arizona desert, we have a wonderful view of the sky. My mother was part Lakota Sioux and taught me a great deal about the heavens and you are so right. Thing have moved. My father was Scot as was my mother's father, they always told us signs in the sky should be heeded, but I never had a clear description of the signs. Could the, I Ching, Mayan, Merlin, and Mother Shipton's beliefs about the date of December 21, 2012 be true?
Shadows, I just came across an article that might be helpful to you. It's about a new program that can take an amateur's pictures of the stars/constellations and show any changes in the positions of those stars. Please take a look: http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/0711...tar-finder.html This is from one of the boxes along the right side of the article: Astrometry.net shows where an image of the constellation Orion belongs in a full map of the night sky. A white box superimposes the image on the full map. Credit: NASA/Astrometry.net
I hope this helps!

Yes the stars have shifted a bit though I am not sure why. I have a theory that they are shifting not because they are moving but because we are, could be that Mother Earth is actually shifting, remember the Tsunamis that hit a few years back and sent the earth through an immediate shift of the poles? I think this is more result of that and the fact that we humans have done damage and now the Earth is healing Herself perhaps at the expense of those that are on her surface.
In the Movie "The Matrix" humans were compared to a virus, and perhaps that is true since most take from the earth but put nothing back, think on this and let me know your thoughts!

Hi Druid of Ark, this is JC, It would be too bold to post it, but I once tried to sum it up in something called: “Fool Me Once”. Which I’m thinking of calling “Fooled Again”, instead, anyway you can find it’s over on Celtic Hearts if you haven’t already seen it. Later, JC

Has anybody been looking at Mars lately, in the early evening sky (probably rising a little before sundown)? It is huge, just immense, a soft pale orange. Breathtaking.
At Imbolc (Feb. 1st) Jupiter and Venus will be perfectly conjunct in Capricorn, rising before the sun as a double "morning star" (you would have to be up and out well before sunrise). It is expected to be a stunning sight. Hope for a clear sky.
