Artificially Low???.....what are you talking about Peckery... are you off your Monkey Meds??
Just because the rest of the world has been paying to much to the oil cartels over the years and seems okay with it is no indication that the prices are artificially low.
It's a racket just like insurance. Anything that can be done to jack the rate will be done legitimate or not. If the oil companies (or their middle eastern counterparts) were not making fat enough margins previous to the recent rate hikes, they would have gone out of business long ago. (and their private jets would have certainly disappeared)
If people quit using as much fuel as a result (like in 1975) the prices would come back down. I know how these guys think (just like my sales manager )
They would have been better served to just keep edging the prices up rather than to manufacture their lame excuses for sudden rate increases.
How does it make me feel???? It makes me want to kill them with a chainsaw. (nothing personal )
Ouch! $2.57 I would think we all need to try to slow down and stay closer to work and home. Try not to go as much show OPEC we don't need their stinkin oil that bad.
Also consider the following: - Vick's Nyquil costs $178.13 per gallon - Pepto Bismol costs $123.20 per gallon - Scope Mouthwash costs $84.48 per gallon - Brake Fluid costs $33.60 per gallon - Diet Snapple costs $10.32 per gallon - Gatorade costs $10.17 per gallon - Lipton Ice Tea costs $9.52 per gallon - Imported beer costs $8.67 per gallon - Imported bottled water costs $7.50 per gallon - Cranberry juice cocktail costs $6.65 per gallon - Soda/soft drinks cost $5.33 per gallon - 1% fat milk costs $2.65 per gallon
When you buy a gallon of gasoline, what are you paying for? - Cost of crude oil is about 42% of the price. - Federal and state taxes make up about 29% of the price. - Refining costs and margins is about 16% of the price. - And all other distribution and marketing costs are about 13% of the price.

I'm running my F250 diesel on the road more cause diesel is at $1.59 per gallon. I parked the Lincoln even though it gets 27mpg. Too expensive. I've got an old 91 Taurus I can run if I have to.

US oil companies have deals with the OPEC nations that state if you sell the crude to us at this low price per barrel then we promise to buy X amount of crude from you. OPEC to protect it self has established limits of production. That leaves the door open for non OPEC countries to sell their crude at what the market will bear, pushing up the mean average of crude, causing prices of gas to go up.
