The economy is so bad:

I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.
I ordered a burger at McDonalds and the kid behind the
counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"
CEO's are now playing miniature golf.
If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds,"
you call them and ask if they meant you or them.
Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.
McDonalds is selling the 1/4 ouncer.
Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and
learned their children's names.
A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .
Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.
Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.
The Mafia is laying off judges.
Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.
Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal.
Oh Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated
by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear.

All funny aside, I`m old enough to have been through a number of recessions and this is by far the worst for me. Living on a fixed income with no possibility of adding to it has been real tough. At least I have a home to live in and still make ends meet but I wonder about the millions who have lost their jobs and homes. It is truely a sad time for America and a lot of the world. Thanks a lot "bankers"! sad.gif

nbailey you are so right. I have a sister and father-in-law that try to get along on a fixed income and it breaks my heart to see them pinch pennies. Especially the last two months when they have had larger then normal heating bills. I try to help as much as possible by cooking extra and sharing the "specials" that I find. I think the worst of it is if they believe they are in this alone and nobody cares.

We all need to pitch in and help where we can. The govt. is ill equipped to deal with this now and it will very likely get worse.

Patch;

Parliament was just opened and a new Budget brought down. According to those who are in the know our economy is doing OK. It could be better but as long as the US economy is in trouble ours suffers also to some extent.

That is the down side of a "world economy". As goes the economy in one nation so goes the rest. If a small nation falls, a major ripple passes through the rest. If the US should fail (default) our closest trading partners will fail too and eventually the entire world economy follows. China could also cause that to happen.

We just had two "total" bank failures in the list of closings that came out yesterday evening. There were no "buyers." The banking insurance system has cut checks to the regular depositors of one of the banks but no mention was made about the commercial accounts. The nightmare of changing direct deposits is unreal. One can easily end up with their money lost in the electronic maze of money transfers.

It is hard to believe the administration with these things happening.
