OK, this is how bored I am right now.

What are you doing right now (besides posting to the board)?

Right now, I'm listening over the Internet to a bush league baseball game. The Joliet JackHammers are leading the Lincoln Salt Dogs 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th, in case you wanted to know.

Sitting here taking tech support calls for the local ISP. *"Yes sir, you have to get a phone line from the phone company"* Eating corn chips and pimento cheese. *"No sir, we're not like an ATM and we have no way to issue money over the computer."* Wishing I were in the mountains by a running stream. *"No sir, you can't hear the music without speakers or a sound card."* With my lady by my side. *"No sir, we don't give you a free computer when you use our service."* OH well....

Listening to some Switchfoot samples I just downloaded. I'm liking this stuff. I think this is my next purchase. note.gif thumbs_up.gif

I'm also scanning and preparing the photos I got back from our vacation in the Rockies. I'll be uploading them in a bit.

I just got back from a baby shower and now I'm trying to relax. Family gatherings are always noisy and hectic, but in a good way biggrin.gif . Even for a baby shower there are at least 50 people there, usually more. I'll admit I'm watching Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion too.

Well besides being addicted to this chat board, I have bought a new (used) camper and getting it ready for the next camping trip this weekend. I have to choose between to campsites and don't know which one to go too.

I have the wilderness of a state park or the backyard of an Aunt's house with a pool. This is going to be hard.

Then I have a picnic this afternoon which of course I'm really not looking forward to because my best friend is trying to get me to sing and I'm not really thrilled with getting up in front of people because I am shy.

I think that would be enought today though.

Is this your first camper? Used or new, they sure enable us to have some good times. We have as much fun in our "ancient" truck camper as we do in our "new" 5th wheel travel trailer. My hubby and I are getting our truck camper ready to take out. We haven't used it for awhile and everything in it is getting a cleaning! I've got the washing machine filled with bedding and the dishwasher filled with dishes! biggrin.gif Busy, busy. busy. wink.gif

Thought you might like the following written by my father several years ago.

Tax

Tax taxes intellect.
Understanding the plan pains the brain,
thins the hair, confuses reason,
dims the eyes, palpitates the heart,
prickles the skin, tickles the feet,
aches the bones, and bakes the disposition.

Preparing the return taxes friendship,
nixes the day, fixes the mind,
distorts outlook, contorts the body,
crumples compassion, coerces candor,
forces honor, compels competence.

Tax cracks the taxed
and extirpates the profit.

Well, last week I was asked to run for one of the positions, on the Executive Board, of a state wide organization I belong too. After a lot of thought, just minutes ago, I announced I would run for the position of Secretary for the group. Most of the meetings will be done through conference calling and emails. That's the easy part. I'll have to attend events around the state. That's the fun part. And it's for something I enjoy. That's the good part.

I've spent most of the day working on my dance group's http://www.kcirishdancers.org. Unfortunately, I'm VPN'd into work right now so that URL's not going to work until I disconnect. But it's been a lot of fun because I've been poking around in http://www.plone.org which is disgusting in how cool and easy it is to make dynamic web site. I should go to the grocery store and get some stuff for the week but I suspect after reading up on the news, I'll go back to playing/working on a fun program that I think I'm going be asked to work on this week.

Mike, if your new to riding. Do yourself a very BIG favor. Take a Rider Ed course. Not only will you save a few bucks on insurance, it may save you life from those who have attitudes towards bikers and don't care how they drive around them. A Harley is a heavy machine and it takes much more room to avoid hazzards than a rice rocket. Learn the right way, the first time. Don't become a statistic.

Posted by: MDF3530 01-Aug-2004, 08:53 PM
Oh, yeah I most definitely would take a training course. Some of the Harley dealerships around here do offer them. I'd wear a helmet too. Preferably one that's a replica of a German WWI combat helmet, spike & everything.

BluegrassLady, the kids starting back to school already? It always made me sad when my kids had to start back after their summer vacation. The kids here don't start back until about the end of the month. I always enjoy my gkids visiting and then I have to do damage control once they leave! biggrin.gif but that's ok, they are the grand in grandchildren. biggrin.gif

Mike, I'm sorry that you don't like Suzuki or Honda motorcycles. Hubby and I have an 800 Suzuki and she is purdy'! Black with lots of chrome. My brother bought a Harley a few months back, it's a good-looking bike, I still think mine is as good-looking. biggrin.gif

Maggiemahone1, Yes, the kids start school early here in Kentucky. One county started today and by Friday most of the commonwealth will be in session. When my kids were in school (in Michigan) the school year didn't start til after Labor Day.

My husband has had 2 hondas, 1 yamaha, and 1 kawasaski motorcycles. The kawasaski was a beauty. We are usually in Daytona Beach for bike week and there sure are a lot of beautiful bikes out there. I must admit that I am glad that now we enjoy cruising with the wind in our hair in a convertible (at least I do). Sorry. tongue.gif

Mike! Where are you working now?

Rose-

I'm working for the Chicago Transit Authority (the City of Chicago's public transportation system). I'm working in their rail division as a car servicer, which basically means I go in and clean the interior of the trains. This past week was my training period. I was working nights at their largest facility, which was a 1 1/2 hour train ride away. Luckily, my permanent assignment will be closer and have normal hours. A nice fringe benefit is that if I have my ID, I can ride the CTA buses & trains and certain Pace buses (the suburban Chicago bus system) for free.

Wow! Mike! Sounds like a really nice job and like the benefits too! Do you like the job itself?

Whenever I go to Los Angeles, and I will be there next week, I take the Metro train. Funny thing is is that they charge us money to go on there, but nobody ever checks our money stubs. I wonder how many people are getting on that train and not paying now? LOL

The CTA is on a farecard system. They have these farecard vending machines at the rail stations and all the chain supermarkets in the Chicago area. You can purchase the farecard, check the balance, and add to it if necessary. You insert it into a slot on the bus farebox or train station turnstile and the amount is deducted automatically.

Yes, CR, but not too bad! We traded our 2000 Suzuki for a 2005 Suzuki C90. The seat is bigger and more comfortable than the old one. We take breaks and that helps alot. We plan on traveling down to the Smokey Mountains next month on the Suzuki for a few days, if I can get off work. Our 33th wedding anniversary is next month and I thought we might go for another honeymoon! wink.gif

I have had to fly back and forth to California so much this year that that pretty much took our vacation money. Oh well! Thanks so much, CelticRose. The Parkway is beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. We'll probably travel the BR Parkway some when we travel down to the Smokies. Have you ever been up in the Highlands of Boone, NC? I like it there and I love shopping at Blowing Rock, ever been there? I bought me a dulcimer there a few years back from a man that owned a shop there. Ever now and then I get it out and plonk on it. I'm just not musically inclined! biggrin.gif

MDF, I seen so many Harley's today it was mind boggling, I still prefer my Suzuki, it's big and bad! biggrin.gif Just got to get some louder pipes later on. I do like the sound of a Harley.

Yeah, it does. I'd have to find out the exact route though. I know that the Route 66 enthusiasts are pushing hard to get it recognized as an official route again. And yes, I'd like to get my kicks on Route 66 biggrin.gif . Here's the URL to the Route 66 Society:

Have you ever been up in the Highlands of Boone, NC?  I like it there and I love shopping at Blowing Rock, ever been there?  I bought me a dulcimer there a few years back from a man that owned a shop there.  Ever now and then I get it out and plonk on it.  I'm just not musically inclined! biggrin.gif

maggiemahone1

We stayed at the Swiss Mountain Village resort in Blowing Rock for two weeks when we were in N.C. You are right. It is a beautiful area. Unfortunately, my husband developed a blood infection in his leg from a cut while we were there and he spent the first week in the hospital in Boone. sad.gif But, because of that, we ended up staying for the second week. smile.gif

I would love to beable to play the dulcimer, but I am also musically disadvantaged biggrin.gif

I've been on Route 66 and didn't even know at the time that basically everyone knew what was, lol. But I did have a good time fishing with me da, didn't catch anything but had fun just the same. Today didn't go to well either, had a conflict dealing with religion with my mom and step da again, go tinto a fight with step brother. But I did go visit some of my friends that are senior citzens, now I', waiting for Tuesday to come so I can go to Collegedale with a bunch of friends and just hang out from 7 until whenever we feel like going home.

I'm checking over the wolf pack movements in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I will be entering the BWCA on September 13th. It will be five days with 4 of my brothers and my nephew. One of my brothers is hoping to call some wolves while we are there (he's done it on his TV program in the past). Good news is there have been sightings, just last month, around the area we will be in.

Thanks so much, CelticRose. The Parkway is beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. We'll probably travel the BR Parkway some when we travel down to the Smokies. You know I never made it as far as Boone, NC. I always wanted to. I got up there pretty high on the BR Pkway and can't remember now how far, but have the photos to prove it! LOL Spectacular beautiful country! You are all blessed to be there. I miss it. However, I love Arizona so very much and even though some people would think the desert ugly, I somehow see a special beauty in it.......odd, eh? biggrin.gif However, lately it has been hotter than Hades! What's worse is that it has been humid too! Ugh! unsure.gif

Ooh! Now I have been to Blowing Rock! The Last of the Mohicans was filmed there so I had to see it!

I love dulcimers but I have no musical ability whatsoever. Wouldn't do me to buy one...LOL

Maggie! Sadly, I have never been to Boone, NC! I have been as far up as south of Boone and have the photos to prove it, but doggone if I can remember where! I would have to get my map out and tell ya. It is such beautiful country. I miss it there. However, I am very happy to be back in my Arizona. Some people either really love or hate the desert, I happen to really love it! There is just something about it I really love and find so majestic.

I love dulcimers, but would never buy one because I have no musical ability either! would do me to pay the money! laugh.gif

Ooh! cool site MDF! Now I have traveled some of the Route 66 myself and have collected a lot of Route 66 stuff along the way! I am a major collector of Route 66 paraphernalia! Anyway, two years ago I was up in Williams, AZ and there was a motorcycle team there from Switzerland driving the Route 66 route. We went and talked to them. It was so cool. My hubby has a real affinity for motorcycles Anyway, he at one time had a 1966 Triumph Bonneville! Really cool machine! smile.gif

Five days-four nights in the northern Minnesota wilderness. Going on a wilderness canoe trip with 4 of my brothers and one nephew. Three of us have done this several times in the past.....the other three are going to learn ALL about portages. wink.gif

We are planning on canoeing to some remote waterfalls and also some remote Indian pictographs. The moose are going into rut and the bears are looking for that last bite before hibernation.

We are going to try and call some wolves. A pack was sighted only 2 miles from our put-in point on July 29th. If we're lucky we might even see the northern lights.

Sept. 10th isn't getting here fast enough.

gettin-away! Sounds like you have a great trip planned! Anxious to hear how it goes! You must live in some beautiful country. Celticrose, I know. It's the perfect place for us. We're moving home after we finish upgrading the house & garage, then I have to finish the truck so I can sell it. We're free to go after that. So, hopefuly early to late spring. This house was 150 before, 180 furnished, and has just now dropped the price after a year. I hope it holds out a bit longer.

Yes, we got married. There's a thread in here all about it. smile.gif

Rose

I live near Flint Michigan only an hour north of Detroit. A lot of people and a lot of buildings. But every chance I get I head north to camp, canoe, hike, or just to get away. That's were my nickname comes from....I'm always gettin-away!

It is an 800 mile trip from here to Ely Minnesota and we will pass by three of the Great Lakes to get there. Northern Michigan across through Wisconsin and into Minnesota offers some wonderful scenery.

I have one other brother who is severely physically impaired who can't make this kind of trip. And this will be the first time the rest of us have made a trip together. Kind of a brotherly reunion trip. We've been planning this for over a year now and since my youngest brother and I have made more trips of this type then the rest we two are doing most of the planning.

One brother will be flying into Minnesota from Florida in Sept. for the trip. The rest of us will be meeting later today at a large outdoor business to make the final arrangements. We are driving there.

Another brother is the host of an outdoor program on PBS television. He has been on the outer edges of the area we are going, but he has never done this type of wilderness trip. When we asked if he was bringing a camera for the show he said, "No, this is a vacation, not a segment."

It's looking like a great trip.

Have you checked your System Preferences to see if you already have one but it's disabled?

Nope, a Dock app is an application ment to run in a 64x64 pixel square on the screen. I'm milling about writing one to interface with CelticRadio.net

Today, I stopped at a local diner and had a good breakfast- two eggs, served over easy, two pancakes, and two sausages, all for $6.25. Such a shame that place is going though. They're gonna tear down the building the diner is in. I talked to the owner of the diner and he says he's just gonna close the business. I can see his point. He's been in that building since it opened and he's too old to start over.

I just got through planning me and hubby's vacation in October. We will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and thought it would be a good time to take the week away. We direly need it! rolleyes.gif

Vinnie nailed it perfectly about Big Paul & Paulie one episode. When they're not at each other's throats, it's like watching Abbott & Costello build a bike. If you throw Mikey in there, it'd probably be like watching the Three Stooges build a bike biggrin.gif .

As I said before, I'd like to learn to ride. I'm sure that some Harley dealerships around here either offer lessons or at least could point me in the right direction. I'd like to get a Harley and use it on weekends to explore some of the US and state highways in Illinois, Indiana and southeast Wisconsin.

Posted by: CelticRose 26-Aug-2004, 05:16 PM
At one time my hubby had a 1966 Triumph Bonneville! It was a classic and then he sold it.....probably the worse thing he could have done, but he just didn't have time to ride it anymore with his business. I have ridden on the back a few times, but they really do scare me. My sis-in-law used to go riding on the back of a Harley all the time and they somehow had an accident and fell and she got burned badly...........that did it for me. I have not gotten on a bike again! Silly, eh? unsure.gif

O'siyo MDF,
Have you checked around to see if there is a Motorcycle Safety Course being offered anywhere in your area or near by? Your court house should be able to provide information on classes.. cool.gif That is a fantastic way to learn to ride as well as learn many other safety 'lessons'..I knew how to ride, been riding since I was 12 but, I took the course anyway just to be safe biggrin.gif It is most helpful and if you pass the course it offers you up to a 13% discount on your motorcycle insurance..well worth the $100 for the 2 1/2 days.. first eve is in the classroom watching videos and going over laws, etc. next day is on the 'course', learning to ride, practicing stopping/braking/strategic moves, usually in a parking lot and the third day is spent half on the 'course' taking a test and the other half in the classroom being tested (written)..the safety course provides motorcycles for you to ride..the safety class I was in we rode 175cc/250cc motorcycles..it was a really good class and a great experience..met a lot of great people gossip.gif who are now pretty good friends..

I am loading my boat with crab traps. This has been the best year for blue crabs on Georgia's coast in several years. I will be using my cast net to catch some shrimp. I will shrimp and fish the rest of the afternoon and all day saturday. I will be checking those traps about dark. Sunday I will pull my traps out of the water and clean and steam the crabs. The joys of Georgia's pristine coast. cool.gif

Coastman, you are a lucky man. How does freedom smell to you?

I am now on a bank holiday and enjoying a drink (well it is 18:30 ish over here)

Posted by: coastman 27-Aug-2004, 11:43 AM
During the day my "drink" is sweet ice tea with a lemon. When I dock the boat and make it to the house it is mint julep time or just Jack Daniel's poured over ice. I do not allow any drinking on my boat. Things happen quickly on the water. As for the smell of freedom the Patriot Act has voided many freedoms in America. To paraphrase Ben Franklin "when you sacrifice liberty for safety you deserve neither". My family has been resisting the government since Appomattox. cool.gif

Posted by: susieq76 27-Aug-2004, 11:52 AM
Coastman, I think you are right about the Patriot Act. Without wanting to get into political discussions in this forum, I would like to say we are entering into scarier times, for sure.

Just got through uploading a new avatar.

Patti-

I do my fair share of the chores around here. I make my own bed, set the table, do the dishes, clean up the kitchen, carry the laundry up and down two flights of stairs, often do half the laundry, and take out the garbage. Last night, I even vacuumed the basement (my Uncle Jim is coming in to go to the Michigan-Notre Dame game with my dad this Saturday).
