Happy to report that we have already setup a test server and are learning to use the new MediaCP server with encoding provided by IceCast 2.

This is just a test page, but we will be transitioning over to a new player widget that will be much easier to use on our desktop and mobile websites:

If anyone wants to give it a try and just confirm you can hear the music, that would be great as we begin to transition all of our channels over to this new format.

As previously stated, this year most browsers and apps will drop support for http streams, so it is important that we upgrade all of our streams to https.

Technology is changing once again in the streaming internet arena and unless Celtic Radio makes some changes, our channels could eventually be obsolete.

It's OK - we have been through this before and we are currently testing some new technology that we will transition our channels to over the coming months.

No worries though, as long as you use our website and App there should be little interruption to your listening. With the exception being our Celtic Christmas broadcast.

Right now Celtic Christmas is down and we are working on bringing it back using this new technology. It is just going to take us a little bit of time to learn. Luckily we have until about June or July for our other channels. Basically, Google Chrome will no longer support our format at that time, so we hope to be setup with the new technology by that time.

Thanks for your continued support of our site which makes these changes possible so we can keep up with the technology. It is much appreciated!

Our Christmas broadcast was taking offline by Sonixcast.com. They must be anti-christmas or something, have written to them but no response. We will be moving this broadcast to TorontoCast.com very soon. Suggest that you do not listen to any SonixCast.com broadcasts we heard that it is being run by an individual that is not very reputable.

We would like to take this moment and wish everyone a safe and healthy St. Patrick's Day this year. Who would have thought that this day would see a national and world crisis centering on a Global Pandemic that is griping communities and nations with fear? In our own communities here on Celtic Radio we have received several messages from well-known members dealing with the effects of the flu, coronavirus and pneumonia. We wish them good luck and prayers on this day in staying healthy and recovering from their own individual health crisis.

Currently, Celtic Radio and our music channels remain on the air playing 24/7. Our App, website and music directories continue to stream the music of our ancestors. Feel free to tune in today for the type of Celtic music you wish to hear. Escape to our Ye' Old Celtic Pub for some traditional St. Patrick's Day music or perhaps some soothing Celtic music might be more appropriate through our Celtic Moon broadcast.

Because of this Global pandemic, we have decided to suspend any postal mailings of Contest CDs, bumper Stickers or products due to the risk of un-intentional infection. Since we cater to an older crowd of folks, the last thing we want to do is spread this virus at all. The latest news indicates that the virus can live up to 24 hours on cardboard or envelopes. The current contests running will complete and the CDs will be mailed out once this crisis has passed.

Unfortunately, this will result in the delay of our yearly fund-raising event which provides Celtic Radio with needed financing to pay our bills and keep the music and website running. At this time, we would appreciate your financial support through the Celtic Radio Founder's membership. Understand that any welcome gifts will be delayed until this crisis passes. We would very much appreciate your support either through a monthly or yearly account which provides you with premium access to our App. Please see the link below for more information.

Everyone please be safe and healthy this St. Patrick's Day. Take a break from the news today and immerse yourself in one of our channels for a little St. Patrick's Day break. Let's have a toast for Victory over this virus and next year we can celebrate St. Patrick's Day proper with parades, music and pubs!

Please everyone stay healthy and listen to news advice which could help save lives including your own. Thank you.

A Big Congrats to the following member who won a CD in our January monthly CD Contest:

Dale from IN wins the Lead Me Home CD .

Check out our <a href="http://www.celticradio.net/php/contest/celtic_radio_cd_contest.php">February Contest</a> and how to win. This month we are featuring 1 brand new CD donated Albannach.

user posted image

Scottish to the bones, Albannach is a tribal pipe and drum band from Scotland that is all about translating their home country’s ancient and unique culture and history through the music they play.

To experience a live concert by Albannach is a life changing event that will have you addicted to their unique musical style and energy that transcends generations of Scots. Crowds just can't get enough of each and every member as they work hard at building the beat which explodes into a pipe and drum fest that is very hard to describe in words alone.

Just take a look at the crowds and you will see young and old just itching to get near the stage to experience the full onslaught of the best Scottish tribal to come out of Scotland. Kids will be screaming and dancing, taking pictures while old men in kilts suddenly start breaking into the Highland Fling joined by women half their age. It is a site that warms the heart knowing that the Scottish heritage and culture has survived all of these years. From families that left Scotland generations ago to make a new life in America, are rejoined once again by the bonds of the Highland Games that transcends history and makes us one again with our ancestors - brought together by the music of Albannach - it truly is something to be experienced.

Our February 2020 CD contest features music from <a class="link" href="http://www.albannachmusic.com/" target="_blank">Albannach</a>.

Welcome to our Featured and New Music post! We will be highlighting some of our featured music albums every month and providing clickable artwork links to new releases on the website.

One of the strengths of Celtic Radio is introducing our members to new music. Listening to our broadcast channels gives you the opportunity to hear music from perhaps a musician that you may never heard about. And this is the perfect opportunity once a month to discover a new artist that grabs your attention.

Visit the musician's website, check out their CDs and try requesting one of their tracks to sample an artist music. Note that all online requests only play on Highlander Radio, so be sure you are tuned to that channel if you make a music request.

How many Celtic bands can boast the fact that three of the members have played bagpipes for royalty - one at the New Year’s Eve extravaganza in London, two others in the Millenium Pipes March in Edinburgh, and for Prince Charles and his Marie Curie Cancer Fund? Barleyjuice, the Philly-based group with a penchant for all that is “trad-rock” can, and are presently garnering affection and respect in the New World.

They recently released a fantastic new album titled ‘The Old Speakeasy’. This release sets the bar higher in terms of excellence and originality, pairing the act’s penchant for quality performance, with a unique approach in terms of audience engagement and excitement...

Have you tried doing your Ancestry DNA through Ancestry.com. We did ours this year and amazed with the location of our ancesters. Might be a good starting point.

We have started up the coding again on Medieval Kingdom and will be reviewing all of the posts made in this forum for ideas for the game.

The best place to give us direct feed back is within the Medieval Kingdom discussion thread that is located in game.

We have a long list of items to work on, but for starters we will be removing the antiquated numbering system. It will still be there behind the scenes, but Kingdoms, players and other game aspects will use true names.

Our first tasks after this will be to focus on the relationship to players, kingdoms and clans. What info should be available and also have somesort of mechanism to move to a different Kingdom and also to parse players to dead kingdoms that no longer play.

It's all starting now, so if you got some ideas and think there is potential for this game, come join in the discussion in game.

Love to find deserving homes for these wonderful CDs that these artists donate to us. I believe going forward our monthly CD contests are going to feature more information on the artist like we did this month along with a social media tweet which actually garnered the attention of Camille!

I still feel there is worth and an honorable place for CDs - while you could listen through Apple music or purchase the CD through Amazon, there is something about having a well crafted CD with the cover art and insert with lots of interesting and thought provoking information.

A Big Congrats to the following members who won a CD in our December monthly CD Contest:

Barb from New York wins the The Old Speakeasy CD by Barleyjuice.
Tom from Massachusetts wins the Air and Fire CD by Perkilt.

We have been running our monthly and special CD contests since 2004 and to date we have given away 1,830 CDs. A big THANK YOU to all of the musicians who have donated their CDs to this contest and to the Celtic Radio Founders who financed all of the envelopes and postage!

Check out our <a href="http://www.celticradio.net/php/contest/celtic_radio_cd_contest.php">January Contest</a> and how to win. This month we are featuring 1 brand new CD donated Camille Nelson.

Camille Nelson is a multi-instrumentalist and has been in the music industry for over 10 years, releasing her second studio album, Lead Me Home with Stone Angel Music in August 2017, which debuted at number 8 on the Classical-Crossover and number 11 on the Classical Billboard charts and won Best Christian Album in the 2018 IMEA Awards. She is releasing her third studio album, Sacred Lullabies with Heart Dance Records on August 23, 2019.

Blending elements of folk, classical, bluegrass and new age music, Lead Me Home features relaxed, intricate acoustic guitar melodies of both traditional and original hymns accompanied by a string ensemble with guest artists, Steven Sharp Nelson of The Piano Guys, Alex Sharpe (formerly of The Celtic Woman) and Ryan Shupe of Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband. Camille worked with Executive Producer Paul Cardall to create this album as well as producer Trevor Price.

The years keep moving and it is amazing for me to think 20 years ago we were celebrating the year 2000 and if our computers would even run the next day.

The kids are all grown now like in the blink of an eye. Enjoy each and every moment and we hope everyone has a wonderful 2020. Let's all take a moment to wish a fond farewell to our many members who have passed away. We hope we gave them just a bit of happiness with the music, songs and stories that this site provides.

In celebration of the New Year we will be playing 10 hours of Auld Lang Syne by the immortal Robert Burns. Tune in on Highlander Radio to hear this Robert Burns festival of his most famous poem featuring over 100 musicians singing this timeless song. Have a Happy New Year!

So you don't understand the Lyrics?

We twa hae ran about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d monie a weary fit
Sin’ auld lang syne.

Then read on...

The end of a year often signals new beginnings – gym memberships and dating apps see an uncharacteristic surge in sign ups – but one thing that has never, and will unlikely change, is Robert Burns’ Auld Lang Syne. It’s pretty much accepted that most don’t know all the lyrics, but does anyone really know what they mean either? Here is a breakdown of each verse and chorus in the original 18th century Scots along with its translation.

I know I will be requesting some music from the Gothard Sisters. Their Christmas tracks are wonderful!

We have brought back the Celtic Radio Christmas Tree and the snow due to popular request!

This year our Christmas music will be playing on our special "A Celtic Christmas" channel that is available in our App, website and mobile website.

We have really added some very nice tracks to this channel and have received some very positive feedback. Some of these tracks are very hard to find and you just may not hear them on any other channel.

The channel definitely plays a mix of Celtic Christmas music, but we have expanded the Genre to include certain holiday favorites and even some tracks from a few Christmas Carol movies that we feel fits in nicely with this broadcast channel.

Everyone please do have a safe and happy Merry Christmas!

Bright and uplifting Christmas melodies to celebrate the festivities with an extra touch of Celtic music.

It’s that magical time of the year again! Christmas is all about having a wonderful time with friends, family and loved ones. It is about enjoying a delicious meal and revel into the warmth of the holidays (well, in spirit if not in terms of climate!) and more importantly, it is a season for amazing Christmas music! Many artists are taking to the Internet to release exciting Christmas releases, providing the perfect soundtracks for this wonderful time of the year....

If there is one thing for certain with Celtic Radio, is that when there is a Barleyjuice new release - it is BIG news. Barleyjuice has been supplying Celtic Radio with their new releases for a long time, all the way back to 2004 when they won the very first Celtic Radio Music Award for their &quot;Another Round&quot; album. What makes Barleyjuice so special is they have combined all of the attributes of a great rock band; the promotion, the music and the mystic all into one definite package called ‘Barleyjuice.’ At the heart of their success is simply just a great group of guys that loves to play Pan-Celtic Rock music. And their music is just so good, we can not get ever get enough of their tunes (like a glass of Guinness).

Their latest CD called &quot; The Old Speakeasy&quot; is their 7th album with 14 never released before recordings feature Juice members old and new. Go ahead and sign up for the contest and you might be one of the lucky Celtic Radio members to take this home on New Year's Eve. But if I were you, I might just head on over to Barleyjuice.com and pick up a copy so you can jam all through the holidays and the new year. It's that good. Happy Holidays!

I'd like to take a moment and remember some of our faithful supporters over the years that have passed on. Seems lately. this year. we are hearing of more and more of them which is really sad. Mitzie King is someone that passed earlier in the year that was always so supportive and now just heard that Tom Rush passed away (GREENoverRED).

Feel free to post rememberances about other member that have passed on here for the future or the past. I know there might be a few other threads on here, so if you know someone that has passed on let us.

Hope that we can all meet someday in the great beyond where we will have one heck of a Ceilidh!

Much love and appreciation to all that have supported Celtic Radio....

Of all the money that e'er I had

I spent it in good company

And all the harm I've ever done

Alas it was to none but me

And all I've done for want of wit

To mem'ry now I can't recall

So fill to me the parting glass

Good night and joy be to you all
