This is a yearly contest put on by the Scotsman website. It's all explained on the website. Just click on the "I spotted a haggis" button when you spot a haggis on one of the webcams. You do have to register to play and get prizes.

Just a reminder:

It's nearly haggis hunting time again!. The Hunt begins on 30 November at 12 noon GMT.
I'll keep everyone updated as we get closer.

Did you know
Haggis is also used in a sport called haggis hurling. The present Guiness World Record for Haggis Hurling has been held by Alan Pettigrew for over 22 years. He threw a 1.5 lb Haggis an astonishing 180 feet, 10 inches on the island of Inchmurrin, Loch Lomond, in August 1984.

Haggis juggling takes place at the Scottish Juggling Convention each year, with competitors competing for how long they can juggle three, four, or five large haggis.

Not a big fan of eating haggis so am very happy that they have found other uses for it. biggrin.gif

Posted by: pretentiouswombat 03-Dec-2007, 01:10 PM
It's always dark when I get online to look for the little buggers. Times Square is interesting to keep an eye on, though. Haven't seen one yet...sigh.

Just keep watching. When a haggis shows up, the location screen will turn a lime green in color. Kind of like using night vision glasses to spot them.

Thanks for the tip! Last night it was rather odd - there looked to be something lying in the road at one of the camera sites. I wondered if it was somebody's garbage or a dead body. Wouldn't that have been awful! I'll have to sneak a peak at work today so I can see what some of those locations look like in daylight.

Yeehaw!!! I spotted two of the little buggers tonight!! And one was a golden haggis. I'm tickled pink!

I'm hoping to be able to order one of the tee shirts sometime. They are great conversation starters

Posted by: pretentiouswombat 06-Dec-2007, 03:23 PM
OMG! There are tee-shirts!!! I'm going to see if they have something that will look good on a wombat.

just saw him in the Royal Mile, Edinburgh!

Posted by: pretentiouswombat 06-Dec-2007, 05:57 PM
You know, I'm wondering about the guy I keep seeing in the distillery. Either he works there, or he certainly hangs out there a lot.

I think I'm going to order a personalized coffee mug - perhaps several. They would make cute gifts.

Well, back to the Hunt!

Great! another addiction!!!! laugh.gif

Posted by: pretentiouswombat 07-Dec-2007, 10:56 PM
I wish they had a haggis stuffed animal that I could keep on my desk. What a conversation starter that would be. I guess I'll have to settle for a mug, though.

Posted by: Haggishead 08-Dec-2007, 01:11 PM
I'd buy one too. Why not send The Scotsman an email. Maybe they can work on it for the store.

Great idea. I'll get right on it. tongue.gif
