Natalie was AWESOME. Played two of my favorites off the live album, she was in full antic all over the stage. She did a lovely down home set with just Allan, and you could almost picture them at a CB kitchen party, seated near each other. Lots of step dancing - she did two or three step bits, in addition to her usual way of dancing as she plays. Natalie also sang her lyrics for "Appropriate Dipstick" a capella and told the story about getting the grant to film the video.
She looked amazing for having flown in from Cape Breton at 5am that morning. She'd bopped up to visit her folks for a short weekend. Very chatty with the audience. I get the impression that they really like the venue at Manchester. It's a very supportive neighborhood for this sort of thing, supplemented by folks from Maine and Mass. coming in for the party.

Trucked up to Manchester, NH for the show last night. Good crowd; rowdier than the one at the Music Hall in Portsmouth a year ago, but slightly less rowdy than the crowd at the Rochester Opera House the year before. The audience danced at Rochester.
John Chiasson had a great jazz bit, which my fiance' wants to hear at our wedding now. Brad did a soul-stirring rendition of Danny Boy, which had me crying, remembering my dad, who we lost last year after a sudden stroke. There weren't many dry eyes in the house then, come to that...
Miche Pouliot is still the God of Drumming, he had some great stuff - my leg's still sore from keeping the beat! Matt MacIssac had a fantastic piper solo that brought the house down at the start of the second half of the show. And shy Allan worked his magic at the keyboards once again. The guy is pure Cape Breton. Fantastic stuff.
Such a great time... can't wait until next year!
Anyone on the boards here that was there? What did you think? |

So far my personal best is 2119. I couldn't resist the challenge.
Celtic Cat: Have you ever seen the games at Orsinial? They're really sweet, and beautifully animated. There are a few I play just because I like the music!
My favorites of late are These Little Pigs, A Daily Cup of Tea, and The Amazing Dare-Dozen. Some of them are quite challenging! The nice thing is new ones are being added all the time, so it never gets dull.
Give it a try, you might really like them.

An actual point of "rural etiquette" my father pointed out to me many years ago:
When someone offers you moonshine, and they have the cap off already:
take the cap, then the jar, and take a swig.
compliment the brewer on his fine work.
take another swig to prove you're not just being polite.
take another, if it really is good, you're sturdy enough to take the hit and the fellow doesn't mind sharing. Chat about something inoccuous and pleasant, like the kitchen party up the hill. It's wise not to mention you think his sister is a hottie.
when returning the jar or passing it on to the next person, NEVER ever ever put the lid back on the jar. Hold forth both, one in each hand to the recipient. To do otherwise is considered horribly rude.

Morning everyone!
I'm Athdara, proud to be amongst all my pan-Celtic brethren here. I live in the Boston/Cambridge area. I'm happy to say that Highlander Radio is the best show on the planet, day or night!
Fave area pubs: Conley's and The Burren.
Hobbies: maaany. Scottish fiddle, genealogy, knitting, art in various media, homebrewed ale and mead, etc.
Family: one braw wee man, one beagle who think she's a warrior princess. Come to think of it, she must get that from my side of the family...
Heritage: Lynch and O'Brien in the Emerald Isle, and Scots ancestors which I've been told are from a sept of Clan MacFarlane.
Dream: to move to Nova Scotia and open a pub. Think there's room for one more? |
