We are pleased to announce the Celtic Radio Song of the Year for 2005 (as elected by the members of CelticRadio.net) is Barleyjuices' "What's Up Yours"!

Everyone loves this philly-based Group as frontman Kyf Brewer muses, “We can dance with your daughter, mosh with your son, sing with your grandmother, and toast your dad under the table. And we’re so attractive and humble your mum’ll be cookin’ for us by night’s end..”

They really are a very musically talented group with a depth of experience that is uncommon for a Celtic Rock band. Just take a look at their bios off their website and you will certainly be impressed. For us Celtic music fans, we are extremely fortunate to have a band like Barleyjuice creating some of the best sounding Celtic Rock music - they truly are cutting edge.....

Now I might be going out on a limb here, because I don't like making comparisons to other groups. But I seem to recall in my younger days when I was very much into the Jake Geils Band. Man, I worshipped some of their albums; especially their Live album. I'll tell you, Barleyjuice is the only other group that I can continuously play their music and be just as excited as the first time I heard them play.

Now, you all have to check out their press kit video because it rocks and you will be forced, upon seeing this video, to want to purchase all of their albums. Don't say I didn't warn you now if you go and blow some of your paycheck on their CDs!

This is the first annual event like this for CelticRadio.net and we will be sending off to Barleyjuice a very low budget award which will recognize them for this prestigious honor that the members of CelticRadio.net have bestowed upon one of their favorite bands.

And thats what makes this award so cool, is the fact that it was not decided or influenced by a record label or recording industry, it comes from their heart of the people that listen to Celtic music and just love it.

I'd like to also mention that all of the songs submitted for the song of the year did really well and are from some excellent musicians and bands. Without their support we just would not have CelticRadio.net, let alone our broadcast - Highlander Radio. Please do check each one out as you request songs because all of them are worthy of listening and of purchasing their albums. Especially if you are trying to build your own Celtic music collection, it is a good place to start.

Finally I'd like to make mention of our Celtic Forum Guide - StevenPD. I am sure you heard him on the station and in his active promotion of this event. We are sending out to him a few bumper stickers (its the least we can do) and just want to thank him for keeping this event interesting. He has already sent me his plans for next year and they look awesome! I wouldn't be surprised if you see him on National TV next year promoting this event - I am sure he will figure something out! biggrin.gif
