We will be saying Good Bye to North Carolina in about 5 months. The US Army has decided we stayed here long enough (4 years) and will send us packing to a new location.

We will be moving to my homeland Germany and will stay there at least for 3 years. Baumholder will be our new home base.

It came as a real surprise. I am excited but also sad. I liked North Carolina very much. We hope that we will come back here after our tour. The good thing is that I can see my parents again and my old friends. And I can eat myself through all the good food I didn't get here for 10 years biggrin.gif

In March 2007 we need to be there so we got about 5 months to get ready. What fun that will be. Moving is the worst part of Army life but even that will pass. wink.gif

Amrita! I'm glad you will be seeing old friends and family, but North Carolina will miss you. We look forward to your coming back here when you have the opportunity. All us NC folks will have to get together and have a going away party for ya'll. You have become one of us and we will miss having you.

Good luck with your move, I'm sure you'll have the same bitter sweet experience as all army families - excited about moving on to pastures new but sad for those you are leaving behind.

It'll be nice to have someone else in a similar timezone to myself to chat to smile.gif

Wow, what news, Monarch. The packing and moving thing isn't too nice but I think you must be exited to move back to your homeland for a while, no? Well, I'm exited you will be in my country then. Baumhoder is near Idar - Oberstein and Birkenfeld, no? I heard it is possibly the largest concentration of US combat soldiers outside the U.S. I had family living in Idar - Oberstein.

I keep my fingers crossed for your move to overseas; keep me posted; I would love to welcome you to Germany! smile.gif

yes we are excited. It will be nice to come back home for a few years. It's been almost 10 years since I have been in Germany. But now I might get the chance to go to Scotland for a wee visit.

I can't wait till this move is over and done with and I am finally settled in again.

Yes Baumholder is near Idar-Oberstein und also not far from Kaiserslautern and yes Baumholder is the largest Base outside of the US. Living in there are around 13000 Americans while there are only about 4800 Germans living there.

At least I am getting moved after the holidays are over. During Holiday season it's not fun to move at all.

Hey Monarch

I think I would be surprised at the move, too! After 4 years you do come to feel part of the community, so the leaving will be hard. On the plus side, now you've family that needs some serious hugging after 10 years, you have made friends that will still be able to keep you up to date on what's happening in North Carolina and as you mentioned the food will be such a treat for you! I think I'd start with schnitzel and a big mug of ale! laugh.gif beer_mug.gif

Here in Canada our brilliant government of the time closed almost all the CFB bases, so I'm sure we'll be a big help when something happens. wink.gif

Just focus on family, friends, schnitzel and good German Ale!

Yes the food will be the best besides family and friends.

At least I could get a few things here since we got a german bakery and two german restaurants here - so it made it a bit easier.

But still it's nice to even go shopping for a lot of things I don't get here. But I will still miss North Carolina. And so we hope and will try to come right back here after we done our tour in Germany.

Monarch...what exciting news for you!! I am happy for you to be moving back home, but hope your return to the USA isn't too far in the future. And as long as you can get online we aren't so far away. biggrin.gif The moving part can be a pain, but, as you say, at least it won't be til after the holidays. It would be nice if you get to see gaberlunzie. The opportunity to take a trip to Scotland is something you definitely need to do. Keep us informed!

I sure will keep you guys posted. Yes maybe gaberlunzie and me can get together. and a trip to england (scotland included is on my list - my Mom wants to go too - since she always wanted to see it)

Yes we hope to come right back here to Fort Bragg, NC after our 3 years in Germany. But we will see what the Army has to say about that in the end. But John will have to reenlist over there again so that he will put in his contract that he wants to go back here again. That will be fine.
