From their website:

"Bagpipe History is a very old History. This musical instrument was well known in ancient Babylon (Daniel 3:5,10,15). Indeed nearly every Nation has its own bagpipes. However Scotland developed an independent characteristic of bagpipes, audible for kilometers and with a high volume.

At first sight the chanter seems to be like a flute. But it uses a reed for sound generation. A 30mm small, handmade vibration component, similar to a oboe. The drones are really good octave booster for tenor and bass. In combination they produce the unique Sound of the Great Highland Bagpipe."
