Here is a quick update on my daughter. After about 10 months of dealing with 3 different medical providers and 2 major Boston hospitals, we finally figured out why she was not growing - she has been diagnosed with Chron's Disease. Here is a little slide show about her:

The bad thing is we have been complaining to her pediatrician for 3 years about symptoms, but he kept saying she will grow. She did not. 10 years old and she looked like a 6 or 7 year old.

Thank God for Boston Medical. With a diagnosis, a great medical staff and a treatment plan she has gained almost 10 pounds and grown 2 inches in a few short months. Its going to be a life long battle, but she is on her way.

Please all parents reading this, if your child does not grow and looks much younger than their stated age be sure to ask your pediatrician about Chrons/Colitis/Celiec Disease or Thyroid disease. If they discount it, and in your guy something tells you there is something wrong, keep pursuing it with other medical providers.

mac i am so sorry to hear this! on the bright side she is just plain beautiful!!

Not to pick on the doctor(s) but slow growth is one of the major symptoms of chrons in children... but then again i always thought that is more of a senior thing.

I am glad it is diagnosed and under control.

my prayers for Michaela and you and your wife.

peace

Mac;

You have both my sympathy and my prayers that your little angel gets well. Even though my oldest daughter is 39 she was just diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. At first they thought it was Crohns Disease so I have a small inkling of what you are going through. May the Creator of All watch over and protect you and your Family.

Wishing you and your family well wishes. Michaela is a beautiful girl. I am so glad that you got the final diagnosis that is so very important. It's good to hear she is gaining weight. Please keep us posted on how she is doing and also yourself and your family.

Any information about this disease could also benefit someone as you say that the doctors may miss the diagnosis. All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Well the good news is after 3.5 months on an all pediasure diet we were finally able to introduce food into her diet last week. She was so excited she licked her plate clean! smile.gif

She can only have chicken, rice and sweet potatoe for the next week and still maintain her 6-7 pediasure's a day. She is growing and we are delighted to have a different more energetic kid blooming before our eyes!

The doc gave her special permission for a cupcake for her Birthday (in October) and she took a few friends to get their hair done fancy at a haircutting place for kids.

We plan on joining the Chrons and Colitis organization and send her to camp with some other kids who share the same struggles. Thanks for everyones well wishes and prayers!

What wonderful news. Sounds like she had a good time on her birthday. I think it's a great idea about the organizations. I think camp would really be a help for her. Just to know your not alone would be such a relief. This has to be hard on all of you. It would be good if you and the rest of the family could find a support group. Please keep us informed. thumbs_up.gif

Great news!! She will always have to watch her diet as you know but kids are adaptable. We as adults would fight the dietary changes. I will keep her and your entire family in my prayers.
