Just a quick note that we are now taking steps to block a number of regions and specific networks from accessing CelticRadio.net. This is because we have determined that those sites or regions contain alot of unwanted traffic, spammers, hackers, etc.

If you suddenly lose access to CelticRadio.net, please email us as it is possible that we might have blocked your access to CelticRadio.net because we determined that someone from your ISP or network was attempting to spam us. We can adjust our system to in those circumstances.

Just another way we are keeping this community safe from the powers that would turn it into a constant flow of spamming advertiserments! smile.gif

I hope this is not the only place you put this message. As the people who would really need this information would be quite incapable of reading this post until it no longer matters.

I agree - but was thinking more of future blocking of certain IP address blocks. There must be some company out there that is offering perhaps a updated list of known spammers and other unwanted traffic.

Well, it appears all of the steps we have been taken to reduce this unwanted traffic is making a difference. Our voice over IP phone is now working better! smile.gif

www.bluetack.co.uk offers many useful blacklists. My personal favorites are:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/trojan.zip
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/ads-track...nd-bad-pr0n.zip
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/spyware.zip
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/hijacked.zip
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/templist.zip
And my personal favorite:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/Microsoft.zip

Trojan- contains IPs of known trojan distributors and portscanners
ads-tracker-etc is self-explanatory
spyware... well, those would be some spyware sites
hijacked- list of hijacked IPs- changes daily
templist- use with caution, this is where accused but not confirmed nasties reside. When an IP is reported to Bluetack, they place it here. After they get to check up on it, it is either removed from lists or added to the appropriate list. Many innocent people end up here for a short stay on a list.

I'm not at my main computer right now, but I think there's also an IANA-reserved.zip list which contains IP addresses that haven't been assigned to anyone yet. If they're unassigned, nobody should be using them...

How do you plan on blocking IPs? If you're runnign Windows-based systems I strongly recommend PeerGuardian2 which is:
free
effective
free
easy to use
free
can be configured to update lists periodicly
and most of all, it's free.

I have two modes: wiseass and dumbass. Mode is determined by current blood alcohol level.

Drinking is a sport. In order to be competitive, you must practice on a regular basis. Although you can practice alone, it is much more fun to practice with friends. If you're out of shape and practice too hard, you will regret it the next day.

Life is a disease. It is sexually transmitted and always terminal.

Just be careful of using blacklists as the only source, some ligitamate IP's get hurt doing that!

My wifes email addy gets blocked all the time ( I have to go in and explain and have it unblocked weekly ) because some folks are blanket blocking IP's

Hey thanks for these great suggestions! I am going to check them out and see if there is a global type IP list that is maintained.

Right now, we are just using .htacess and geoIP. I like using .htacess because it does not require apache reboot!

Will be looking at these links. Thanks again!
