If you live with an animal, I feel you develope whatever form of communication works best between you. When Zig wants something, he comes close to me and sits and gives me a little growl, and then a bark if I ignore him. Then I have to go through my list of "wanna's" until I get to the right one then he gets up and looks to see if I follow him. My previous dog, a Corgy mix, was so smart, I could spell outside and he would go to the back door. Zig is not as smart but we manage to do alright. It hasn't been easy getting to this point, I almost got rid of him when he was just a puppy for biting me. I never had a dog bite me so hard, not even a big dog. We came to an understanding and now he's the best dog I ever had. What he may lack in intelligence, he makes up with affection and loyalty.
