I just got back from Vegas for a hair show. That town was awesome! yep, got my picture taken with Elvis and everything. I could not believe how much there was to do. I feel like I walked many many miles. I got to Stratesphere, Star Trek Hilton, Caesar's, Bellagio, Treasure Island, Luxor, and about 3 others but my brain is fried. Who else has been t here and what did I miss? The plane trip was good and very relaxing....when can I go back? I WON a alittle money, nothing big and had a great time...sso let me know what's your favorite out there!
I went to Las Vegas about four years ago, back when they first started the transition away from "family entertainment" back to "Sin City". I enjoyed myself there. We stayed at the Imperial Palace, which was kinda seedy, but you couldn't beat the price for the location. One day, my buddy and I took the bus downtown to see all the places you see in the file footage of Las Vegas-the Horseshoe, the Pioneer (the cowboy with the waving arm), and the Golden Nugget. I'd heard that the buffet at the Golden Nugget was supposed to be really good, so that's where we had lunch. Other than that, we didn't stray too far from the Strip. One nice thing about Vegas is that even if you don't bet on sports, you can still use the sportsbooks to find out how your team is doing.

I heard the maror of Vegas (aparrently a former associate of accused mobsters) is trying to make it legal to put strip clubs in the casinos so you dont have to go anywhere.
The closest I ever got was two months in the majave desert with the army even from hundreds of miles away you could still see the glow of the lights over the horizon.

I'm glad you had fun. My family loves visiting Las Vegas. I've been there quite a few times, although most of them was spent as a child. I have an aunt who lives there. She worked at The Mirage also so she would always take us to go see the white tigers they keep there. They are beautiful. The Venetian casino is huge and a lot of fun to check out. It comes complete with little canals and gondola rides, like the ones they have in Venice. The guy will even sing for you. New York, New York has a rollar coaster on the top of the building, which I've heard they added on to it. And of course there is Circus, Circus, which is always fun to watch.

I've been to "Lost Wages" once, about 4-5 years ago. Went there for the NSCA (National Systems Contractors Association www.nsca.org) Systems Integration Expo. Stayed at Circus Circus. Spent $10.00 playing video poker the last day there while waiting for my flight out.

Nope, never been there. The closest was when a friend decided to get married there and wanted a bunch of us to fly out with him. Our son was playing football at the time and had a championship game, so naturally we stayed home. Unfortunately, the friend's marriage was very shortlived, so I don't feel we missed out on much. (He's now on marriage number three )
[COLOR=blue]I would love to go and check out all of the touristy things, maybe see a show or two.....but, Sea Dog is the king of the free nickle slots, and always manages to find lots of other things to do around in the area, ie. the marshmallow factory, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Zion national Park, etc. marshmallow factory was really cool, and it is a very weird feeling walking around in the bowels of the dam....

I've been to Vegas several times, but always while trucking. Still, that didn't prevent me from enjoying the place. It truly is Disney for adults. But one thing puzzles me. Since you frequent CelticRadio, I would have naturally assumed on the top of your list of casinos would have been Excalibur. Sorry you missed that one. It really is very nice, and although some of the staff are a bit cheesy, they do have quite a few interesting ones as well. Some of the penthouse rooms are decorated in a medieval motif. Put Excalibur on your to-do list for your next visit.

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error. ~John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859
Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. ~Mark Twain
The only thing I'd recommend at Excalibur would be the French dip sandwich in one of the restaurants there. When I was there, it was still geared towards "family entertainment".

Really? Well the only time I was there was in, ummm, i think 1991. It was cool. But things do change don't they?!
Free nickel slots? free nickel slots? I have been defamed, I have been clearly and wantonly attacked, "put in the line of sight" by a temptress over my proud canny Scots heritage. Next she'll be saying I'm tight with my nickels. That's what happens when you marry an Irishwoman, calumny upon calumny. Next she'll be saying I'm so tight I squeak when I walk.
I hope somebody else has better luck in getting her to be quiet for 48 hours than I ever have. I think 15 minutes has been my limit. Maureen O'Hara has nothing on that woman.
I paid when we went to Zion National Park (which by the way is only about 2 hours away from Vegas, and I paid for the gas too), And I paid when we took the kids to the all you can eat buffets, I even found the best bang for your buck on those, umm I mean I found the best deals, I mean I found the ones with the best selection that she would like. And I never took her to the cheap Hot Dog or cheap meal places. Don't believe her, it wasn't like it was only the free things I took her to (Just the Candy Factory, the Marshmallow Factory, the Oceanspray Cranberry Juice cannery (cranberries in the deser!!!t - but that's a different story), the miniatures factory, Hoover Dam, the free Monorail from the MGM, etc.). And I paid for the , ummh, the, err the, umm yeah the expensive buffet at the Rio.
It's not like I didn't give her some spending money. I can't help it if she put her quarter in a slot machine when I wasn't looking. A full quarter, by gum that shows I'm not tight. I won't even mention that she had to send her children into the Men's Room to find their Daddy to help her lose that quarter, after the machine, devils tool that it was asked her to hold or draw.
Ok we went because we had a relatives condo to stay in, it's not like I wouldn't pay for rooms. I paid for rooms the first time, and it wasn't like they were the absolute cheapest we could get.
Vegas is an interesting place. If you go there with the knowledge that the ultimate and initial goal of the region is to separate you from as much of your money as possible, then you won't be surprised. And also the shift to "A family destination" didn't work and most areas have returned to an adult emphasis ("What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.") If you have small children you may have a hard time keeping them entertained, teenagers maybe even harder. to keep entertained. They are old enough to be interested in many of the adults only activities and too young to participate.
