Celtic Radio Community > Technical Support > Exciting Live365 Upgrades |
Posted by: CelticRadio 31-Jul-2008, 07:23 PM |
Finally I have heard some news from Live365 to get excited about. They will be upgrading their servers and web-based radio player to use FLASH instead of the Javascript DHTML they currently use. Alot of people seem to have problems with the web-player and just can not get it to play. Flash on the other hand is universal and does not have as many problems as the current technology they are using. I believe the upgrade for is happening this month, will keep you posted in this thread. |

(from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/universal) universal: 3. Applicable or common to all purposes, conditions, or situations: I'm sure the word you meant to use is proprietary since last time I checked there is no Flash support under Solaris, OS/2 (or eComStation) or most handheld devices (cell phones, PDAs, etc) just to name a few. Java on the other hand is open-source, licensed under the GPL and available for just about every OS. (excerpt from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Adobe_Flash)
So now it looks as if Flash support under 64-bit versions of Windows may also not be forthcoming. I know you have no control over the changes made at Live365, but the reality is this: changes which prevent a certain percentage of the Internet users from using your service should not be seen as "progress" or "improvements." |
