Just wondering what your favorite hymns are...

Mine are:

"How Great Thou Art"
"Amazing Grace"
"Nearer, My God To Thee"
"City of God"
"On Eagle's Wings"
"Hail Mary, Gentle Woman"
"Prayer of St. Francis"

I also like Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. Add to the list Blessed Assurance. I'm sure there are others... will add them as they come to me! wink.gif

Mine are many:
Amazing Grace
How Great Thou Art
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
In The Garden
I Know Whon I Have Believed
To God Be the Glory
Blessed Be the Name
I Will Sing the Wondrous Story
There Is a Name I Love to Hear
His Name I Wonderful
My Jesus, I Love Thee
The Solid Rock
Sweet, Sweet Spirit
Footsteps of Jesus
Higher Ground
Take the Name of Jesus With You
Victory in Jesus
Just a Closer Walk with Thee
On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand
When We All Get to Heaven
I Know It Wad the Blood

I could go on and on, there are so many that I love.

Shall Renew Their Strength,
They Shall Mount Up With Wings

My favorites are:

Amazing Grace
How Great Thou Art
Just As I Am
I Love You Lord
Power In The Blood
Blessed the Lord
His Name is Wonderful
It Is Well (with my Soul)
His Eye is on the Sparrow
Awesome God
Prayer of St. Francis (I haven't heard this one in a long time).

The Blood of Jesus:
"What can wash away my sins
Nothing but the Blood of Jesus"
"What can make me whole again
Nothing but the Blood of Jesus"
"Oh, precious is the flow that
Makes me white as snow"
"No other fount I know
Nothing but the Blood of Jesus."

Hey Mike, thanks for starting this thread. You got me thinking back and I really enjoyed remembering all my old favorites! biggrin.gif

A few more I thought of:

"Peace is Flowing Like a River"
"Morning Has Broken"
"Lord of the Dance" (an excellent selection for Easter and childrens' Masses)

I was having trouble coming up with my favorite hymn until I saw Sea Dog's post in the thread I started, Monday is Memorial Day..., in the general discussion forum.

My favorite Hymn is:

Eternal Father, Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn). I've "liberated" the verses from Sea Dog's post and am repeating them here:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our family shield in danger?s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect us wheresoever we go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Amazing Grace is the number one. I always got chills when it was sung but it took on a new meaning when it was sung over my brother's grave.

Ole rugged cross

Amen(beuatiful and simplistic)

I'll fly away. I know it was on the O' brother soundtrack but it's still a beautiful hymn.

So many other's ... I'll have to sit down and get back to you with the top 100 or so...

I absolutely love In Christ Alone and Be Thou My Vision. Recently my school had revival week, and our "theme song" was In Christ Alone. It really sums it all up in a beautiful way.

I really like the Easter Song and did a remake of it for acoustic guitar a couple of years ago when Arminta and I were asked to play a mass.

Oh, I love "Be Thou My Vision" especially sung in Irish Gaelic. I forgot to add to my favorite list earlier.

Do you have any favorite artist(s) that sing this in Gaelic? I'd love to hear it.

Favorite Hymns:
Just about all that have already been listed.

I'll also add a modern classic:

Mike already listed my 2 favs. Morning has Broken and Lord of the Dance.

Kind of ironic that Cat Stevens made Morning has Broken a big pop hit, then converted to Islam. Go figure!
