Ohmegosh! I can actually log into scottishradio!!! I've been trying for a month now!!
Well, I made it safe and sound to Australia and I did dance in a competition. It was loads of fun. I thought about going to the Bundanoon/Brigadoon highland games today -on Tartan Day- but I decided to sleep in.
My birthday was April 3 --hey..where are my bday wishes???
and I celebrated it in the Blue Mountains. We went horseback riding on a 3 hour trail ride <--when we reached the top of the lookout, it looked exactly like all of the Scottish pictures I've seen over the years. The blue haze was in the background, and we were on top of a lush green mountain with a flock of sheep. (Though we saw a wallaby too ;) )

I have a few more weeks left and then back home to Florida.
I am sooo glad I was able to log in finally.. and I didn't even forget my password!!

(cake) happy bday to me! (cake)

You guys have exploded since I've last been on and I am sooo jealous! I need to read for hours now!

Have a great Tartan Day!!! (I bought myself a nice large broach for my Aboyne outfit as a souviner.)

I have some pictures up, though nothing Scottish or Gaelic.. but from my trip so far.

Okay, now that I've spent all afternoon catching up on things.....
and have scattered my thoughts through everything.. literally!!

As far as the dance competitions.. well they were okay. I only did one and I was pretty sick. I only danced two out of the 20 some odd dances I registered for.
I would say it is different here. The focus is different than that of what the Canadians and the US is. I think mainly because they're a "closed circuit". Not many Aussies get outside their country to compete.. and to even think about going to Scotland is unreasonable costly! That dream can really be achieved by Canadians and Americans alike. Much closer. Better deals and the exchange rate is better.
I saw a lot of over-extended leaps and lack of serious turn-out in the pre-premier levels. When I watched my group dance.. the adult premier-restricted, i was totally blown away. There was no way I could have placed, even if I danced my best. And I think that's the god's honest truth. These dancers had been dancing for 19 years or more. They were just flat out good. I was also shocked to see they were enjoying themselves. Natrual smiles were on their faces.
You know, I mostly enjoyed watching all the dancers instead of actually competing.
But now that I'm feeling better, I want to go compete and try again. That won't happen. The competitions here are few and far inbetween and don't happen at a set of highland games.. which is a huge disappointment for me.
so the dancing took place inside with no photography allowed.. which upset me even more.
So all in all, it was a very informative but disappointing day, and I decided not to return on Sunday eventhough I could have danced my favorite dances.
i just feel there has to be something else to it all. like the wind in your hair and the schools of spectators that just happen to walk by. They don't care how you dance, they're just enjoying the atmosphere and games. and the occasional piper practicing in our area.. fighting to listen to your piper over the bands.. that's character!
a lot of ppl complain about it, but that's what makes it for me. i only ever did indoors because it was too flipping cold outside (like in Michigan in November) or it was my home school's competition.

aside from that, in Florida I found a really great teacher. She so positive.. everything about her is positive and everything she says is positive.. it's very encouraging. Eventhough i can't do those huge leaps and extension hi-cuts, I feel as though i can still be a competitive dancer with her. she got me to do things in the sword I was scared to do!!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a total waste. i am glad i got to go an at least observe. The adult dancers really made my day. Where in the US, I get disappointment from the adults in premier. They were just really good, well adjusted and extremely talented here. I hope they never lose that.

thanks for the java Cabbagehome!! i still need to drink some. Actually there was a commercial here.. apple help keep you awake better than coffee in the morning. I think I'll try it. ;)

Also, I'm definately going to get an email addy and webpage from here. I'm looking forward to trying to figure out a webpage with a wysiwyg... hope you picked a good one :)
