My hubby wants a kilt for his birthday. Well I can't buy a "real" kilt (too much $$$) so he said a SportKilt is OK. He wants Blackwatch but I don't know what color hose to get and what else he will really need. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Hi crazy kilted celt here with my two cents worth he'll need a kilt belt ,nice leather sporran and flashings, gillie bourgs if he wears it as formal wear. off white green black knee socks work well with the blackwatch kilt. green or blackwatch flashing look best. cascal wear ; favrioe tshirt and footwear with plain day sorppron. I use my regular 2" belts with a nice buckle, made my own sporrans one in plain leather for day wear the other covered in rabbit fur with tassels for evening wear.
for shirts I wear a white shirt and tie evening wear and what ever T-shirt or golf stlye ofr day weer. footwear I made my gillie burgs from my blcack plain round toed shoes by removing the tonguge and adding earxta long laces to try up around my scoks. all this I've buildt up alittel at atime as money and time allowed. it take a while to get the whole outfit put togather. Hope this is helpful and not to confessing

If he ever decides on a regular kilt greatscotshop.com does have a monthly payment plan as do some others if asked.

Ballydun,

A suggestion. Tartan web has a great deal on the irish american tartan kilt now. They are a good company to work with.

i just recieved my kilt from celtic croft i am very pleased with their customer service... and they do have reasonable kilts... and their customer service can not be compared (there were a few problems that they remedied so quickly i couldnt believe it).... i got "brown watch"

they also sell tartan by the yard. and every accessory you could want. http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/

Really depends when/where he is proposing to wear his kilt.

Is it primarily formal occasions or casual nights.

The kilt can be worn on lots of different occasions but the "outfit" changes radically depending on what/where.

My suggestion would be to check out the kilts at Stillwaterkilts.com. They are an excellent value for the dollar. They also have flashes, hose, belts, etc.

You are all so helpful! Actually too helpful!!! I decided to let him decide what he wants and where to get it instead of trying to decide for him. He wants one mainly just for casual events like pub nights and festivals. When/if he decides I'll let you know. Thanks for all of the links and suggestions!
