Hi Kevin, I was wondering if you have any plans for another CD soon? I know this one is fairly new but I can't say enough how much I really like Clarindas Reply- I am looking forward to more... Thank you for your talent..
thanks so much .. it's really lovely to know that you're enjoying "Clarinda's Reply".
I'm actually working on songs and tunes for my new album at the moment and hope to have it completed for around the middle of next year.
However, I do hope to have some tracks ready to listen to well before that and will figure out a way to make them available to listen to. They should be done just after Xmas.
Listening to "Shades of Gold and Crimson" right now. It's good tonal coloration in the music -- I like the dark sounds on the bottom, makes the flute come up like a shaft of light striking. It's a good sound, and a good fit to the mood of the lyrics.
It's now exactly the time of year that I wrote about in "Shades of Gold and Crimson". The colours on the hills are very spectacular here in Scotland at the moment.
I tried to capture that in the both the words and the music for the song.
Hi there Kevin.. Well your big weekend is coming up with Dougie Maclean huh? I wish you all the best I am sure you will be fantastic.. Do let us know how it goes..its a beautiful place to play..I will be thinking of you.. I have been thinking of your song The Shades Of Gold And Crimson fall is so pretty.. like your song..
yes the Dougie MacLean weekend is a week today. As it'll just be me and an acoustic guitar I've been busy re-arraging some of the tracks on "Clarinda's Reply" as "unplugged"versions which has been good fun and a challenge. I've also just finished the music for a short film which was premiered in Dundee on Friday .. so been busy
I'm also hoping to give a new song it's first airing at the Dougie MacLean gig, if I get the chance and more importantly, if I finish writing it !
I've got another piece of news about "Clarinda's Reply" too but will put that in a new post I think
well I did my short set at Dougie MacLeans Perthshire Amber weekend along with a few others who came along to do an open mic spot and it was really enjoyable.
I did new versions of "The Red Rose of Strathmore" , "Ae Fond Kiss" , "Clarinda's Reply" and a new song Called "Another Time, Another Place". They were all just me and an acoustic guitar .. so totally different from those on the album but they all seemed to be well received.
I'm getting a taste for performing live now ! Must get more gigs !
Kevin - so glad to hear your weekend went well then... Do you have any thoughts on releasing your 'unplugged' versions? I almost always like those versions...when you just have a voice and an instrument...and I'll look forward to hearing the new song as well... Yes, you should get more live gigs - sometimes...the smaller ones are better! But happy to hear that the weekend went well.
thanks for that ... and yes .. I am now thinking about recording a collection of "unplugged" songs. It's on my ever growing list of things to do What I'm thinking of is an album of 10-12 songs, some traditional, some not so traditional, some new and maybe some which are new arrangements of my existing songs. The live version of "The Red Rose of Strathmore" with acoustic guitar is VERY different from the version on "Clarinda's Reply" but I hope just as nice
Hey Kevin...this sounds exciting then! I hate to imagine how long that list of things to do is but...just keep 'plugging' away at it! ha ha...You let us know when the 'unplugged' is ready - I'm sure you'll find full support from us here at CR!!
I'm the third one down in the first column .. you'll need good eyesight ..
I really enjoyed doing it and am looking forward to my next gig which is in Glasgow's Mitchell Library in January 2006. I even get a wee mention on their web page too
Thanks for sharing that with us Kevin! Great pictures.. The Perthshire Amber really looks pretty. How many people can it hold do you know..? When is your next performance? Bet it keeps you busy...
Thanks again Slainte
