The shells shatter.
The bombs blast.
Amidst fierce fighting,
His body lies burst and battered.
Screaming and squirming.
Keening “Kill me! Kill me!”

Pleading in pain.

We discuss. We debate.
Helpless and hopeless.
Time ticks so slowly.

His eyelids spring open.
Tears trickle through dirt and dust.
Fear stares out from dark depths.

He works to whisper one word:

“Mother…”

then all life leaves him.

We shut his sightless eyes.
Horrified and haunted forever…

Teriodin,

Your poem again speaks volume of the horrors and violence of war and its consequences.
One that witness this is indeed horrified and haunted for life...

Thank you for sharing,

I envy many experiences in life. This one I don’t. It leaves me with only one question, which is why? I guess there is just no “up side” to the end, except to be free of the pain.

Sorry you had to go through that,

Teriodin;

I can relate very readily to what you felt as I have been down that same desolate terrifying road. Very very descriptive and excellent.
