Wow! That's a lot of info! I like the drawing of the pictish woman.

I liked the Pictish woman too! I loved all the Celtic tatoos she had!
Very good information there, barrdas. A little overwhelming for me right now. I had to print it out for future study! I always was curious about the Picts and who they were. Thanks!
I wanted to bring this post back to life. I spent some time reading all I could about the Picts and it was very interesting. My first impression was the Picts were like any Island tribe, very basic and having very rudimentary weapons and wearing loin cloths with bones in their noses. Hmm, I think I was wrong. From the reading I did they were a very organized nation of war like people. I realize they had not progressed into the bronze age or if they had it was well after the fact otherwise the Romans would have had a lot tougher time killing as many as they did. It is almost inconceivable to think the Roman army during one battle killed close to 10,000 Picts, still thinking in terms they were just Islanders, I would have expected this to wipe them out for sure. It only proves they were a very resilient people. I also thought the language they spoke would be something like an indian dialect not understood by the Scots or Irish people. Well there too I was wrong, if this were true then the union of the Scotts and Picts to push back the Romans might not have happened. I can see where the fall of the Picts began. Their monarch system left much to be desired. Using brothers instead of direct decendents was a very bad idea. For each sibling has their own idea on how to rule and certainly this type of turmoil or disruption was their demise. I believe if they have use a monarchy system where the son took over the rule after the father they might have survived.
I started thinking that with the large presence of Picts on the Island that some of the Pict women were taken as brides by the Scots and Irish. In that case a mixed line would still continue the Pict line to a certain degree, I am rambling now....let me know what you all think.

Oh Aragorn! I am sooooooooo glad you brought this back up! I totally forgot about this thread! I have been kind of studying about them too. I hear they were very advanced. They wore very little clothing, shaved themselves all over with the exception of a mustache and their head and wore blue paint. They also rode charriots. At least, that is what I have read. I will have to find those links where I got this info.

For a slightly more scholarly overview of what is currently known about the Picts, I recommend Friends of Grampian Stones. While they don't state as much, I suspect the site is largely the creation of descendants of the Picts. Enjoy!

Thank you for that link...I am looking for any and all info on the Picts. I really can not believe that the Picts of Scotland were the only ones anywhere. So ther must have been others. They were really art orientated people.
I found a website once that had an extensive dissertation about how the Picts where another Celtic tribe, not that much different from the the native Britons to the south of them (naturally stupid me forgot to bookmark it and now I can't find it again).

I've always found the convergence of the Picts, Irish and Vikings an interesting part of Scotland's History. Would love to see some sites devoted just to the Picts which I am sure some of their blood must run through me!
Not completely unrelated, there is a song by Emerald Rose called "The Pict" song which is currently available for requests!
Awesome Paul!! It would be really cool to find out that there is such an old bloodline in you, you must have a warrior's heart. I was doing some more research and from what I have discovered the Picts were definately organized, building monastaries and metal workings as this website uncovered. Very interesting to see they were so advanced. Again I am going back to my previous idea they were not more then a large nation of people like the indians of North America so this at least disspells that idea. I have uncovered a lot of websites with relativly the same information which leads me to believe the Picts may remain a people of mystery and we may never fully understand their whole story. I will continue to bring as much information as I can to light.
