Hello. I have been searching for over ten years now. I have gone back four generations in Scotland and have come to a stand still. Many people say my family must have come from Ireland first. I can't get the connection. It's too hard once you go back before 1850. I have payed for more credits on the Scottish archives and am no more ahead than before. I am even going to Canongate this summer. Perhaps I will find out some new info while there. sad.gif
I have no new information. I can't even find out when my grandfather came over as he had no middle name and there are many of the exact name. My great grandfather was a typefounder and my great grandmother a tobbaco worker. His father was a labourer. I even know of addresses in Canongate while it was a burgh on it's own. Well, hope all is well for everyone else.

Hello, it's Nancy.  Thank you for doing the search guys!!!!!  I have gone back four generations in Canongate Scotland and although we may not have originated in Scotland, before my father everyone lived in Canongate.  The men all seemed to marry Irish woman so that might show us that somewhere prior to my great great grandfather, we may have been Irish.  I always go by my Scottish roots because four generations tells me I am more Scottish than anything else.  My grandfather had a tattoo on his right arm that had the Scottish cross, heart and thistle.  He must have been proud on his homeland.  He was in world war one and belong to the Militia and the Halton rifles.  He died before I was even thought of, he died in nineteen fifty two.  I found out a lot of information about him, seventy pages from the archives of the first war.  I found many marriage certificates, birth and death records in Canongate through the scottish archives, costs money like everthing else but you can print it right off the computer.  I had to send away for one document because there was no photo, that cost twenty-five dollars.  It was worth it because it gave maiden names and marriage dates!!!  I read that a few Gorman's were with the Boyd clan?  I don't know if this is true  and because my family lived in the low lands, I haven't been able to prove it!  Thanks again  for checking and responding guys.  You made my day!!!!!!! Hello eveyone, I am new here.  I can't seem to sleep at night because my ancestors whom I never met keep me awake dreaming about what they were like, what they looked like and how do I relate to them in my everyday life.  Crazy I know, but it's true.  I will be going to places where they lived in a couple of more years, I need to.  Especially to an uncle I never got to meet because he died in world war two, he has haunted me since I was a kid?  No, I am not weird, I just don't understand why?  Anyway, glad to be aboard and I feel I should tell you, I can't spell worth a darn so forgive me.  Hard to believe that I did so well when I was in school. HEEHEE.  Bye for now.  Nancysunseeds.
