Just wanted to get a feeling to how many people use the feature on the frontpage that displays the current album cover and song. Right now, we have a count down that automatically refreshes the page when it reaches the song end. But I have been thinking lately this might be using up alot of bandwidth, plus with everyones computer trying to reload the page at the same time, it could be slowing the site down on our limited connections. Unless there are some big objections, I might change this so that when you load the frontpage it gives you the regular song secs countdown. When it reaches 0:00 rather than refresh the page the 0:00 will change to a little link called refresh so that you can manually refresh the page. Thoughts? |

I support stopping the refresh as sometimes if I am downloading and the main page takes time to load sometimes I end up reloading before the menu has loaded allowing me to other parts of site so I support stopping the refresh. |

Sure, give the change a try. I have noticed delays especially with Netscape when refreshing the page. |

I'm grateful for Paul (The Powerful and Mighty Oz) and this network no matter how he sets the thing up. I've meet some wonderfully nice people on here...no cyber-stalkers or nut cases. Just really nice people to talk with that love this type of music... also I've learned alot from others. I always feel I've learned something new when I get done reading the posts... Some of the posting is done to share info with others and some are just fun..good mix... Praise the Mighty Oz! Annabelle |

First, thanks for the kind comments here! Much appreciated! Makes all of the fun in developing this site all worth it! We implemented the change to the countdown javascript routine so that rather than refreshing the page, it changes the timer to a little link that says "Click here to refresh" So far so good. This should help speed up the site and save on bandwidth. Basically what was happening is that if 30 people have the frontpage opened at the same time when the javascript timer reached 0:00 all 30 people would be requesting a refresh from the webserver which really put a big load at one time. Perhaps someday when we have tons of bandwidth will we be able to have this feature return. Thanks again for your words of encouragement and support! |
