Is anyone planning on going to see Mel Gibson's new movie on the last 12 hours of Christ's life? From what I have heard, it will give a whole new meaning to what He suffered for our sins. I especially found interesting what John Paul II said (or maybe didn't, depending on who you listen to), "It is as it was."
I plan on going to see it. Maybe not on Ash Wednesday, when it opens. It is too hard to try to get to Mass, then to the movies, and then to work. But probably that weekend.
What are everyone else's views?

There is even a place where you can type in your location, and it will tell you how far away the nearest theater showing the movie is from you. I am going to have to go 41.2 miles, but I think it will be worth the drive.
Hi Andy! I know that Mel Gibson is not real keen on his historical accuracies, but I have to admit I am anxious to see this movie. I know that he is a strong Catholic so perhaps he will get the Biblical historicity right in this movie he makes.........I hope. But then I admit that I am a Bible believing Christian and will be watching this film very carefully, but with anticipation.
I am there. Mel missed the Bridge at Sterling (which was the most significant feature of the battlefield!) but I think he caught the passion of Wallace. If he catches but a bit of the passion of Christ it will be epic.

Hi, Eamon, where have you been??? Nice to see you again!
I'll second that. The more as Mel probably is aware of the fact that he chose a very touchy subject. I'm sure he will have handled it with care, heartfully and with enthusiasm, too.
Oh, and I will be there as soon as the movie will reach the German theatres!

Based on an interview that I saw with EWTN's Raymond Arroyo, Gibson relied on very orthodox Jesuit biblical scholars, both for the actual storyline, as well as for the translation of the script into Aramaic and Latin. He seems to be making a stark attempt to get it right this time. We'll see.
What I thought interesting in the interview was his statement that this movie could be a career killer. Of course he said he did not care whether he ever worked again. Making this movie was what was important. That doesn't sound like the Mel Gibson of the past. Perhaps his religious epiphany has changed his outlook on the world.
I will probably rent this when it comes out on video. I am a little intrigued by it. It should be a very emoptionally intense film. I am assuming from the title that the movie will be focusing on the crucufixion rather than the resurrection. Whether you believe in Chrisianity or not, someone suffering terribly and being nailed to a piece of wood is a very sad and intense story, and one would have to be cold hearted to not feel anything when they see that.

Yes, I would agree with you all on everything said. I, too, saw a bit of that interview of Mel Gibson and remember him saying that this film may be a "career killer." But if he truly catches the passion of the Christ, I think it will be the finest of his career because of his own passion for making this film and not out for the money.
My wife and I plan to go see it when comes out. I for one think Mel Gibson Is very good at what he does. Braveheart was not very historical, But it did bring back recognition of Scotlands past and maybe its future.

I would like to go see "The Passion of The Christ" when it comes out. I know some groups, like the Anti-Defamation League, have voiced concerns about it possibly being anti-Semitic, but that just makes me want to see it even more. I'd like to see it before I formulate an opinion.

I haven't really given much thought about seeing this flick... I think I'll wait for some reviews before I decide. And, to be honest, the possibility of anti-Semitic overtones does concern me.
I'll leave my full opinion until I see it.

This is an article that convinced me to go see The Passion. My hubby and I will be there opening night in support. I am thrilled to see this movie and will be encouraging everyone I know to go.
