Celtic Radio Community > Celtic Radio > Update On Celtic Radio

Just a quick note about all of the down time for the past week.

We have made some very significant changes to our servers and network over the past week which has resulted in alot of down-time.

Not to fear, Celtic Radio is not going anywhere. We are just upgrading everything to newer technology - its a lot of work and a lot of time. Some of the technology is new to us, so we are hitting the reference books and proceeding to restore all services.

For example, our own internal network has been updated to Gigabyte speed. This will allow us to work faster and for our servers to communite quicker with each other. We have purchased a brand new Radio/Database server (Dual Core) that will also serve as our central backup hub and produce off-site backups. Our webserver computer has been replaced with a zippy P4 3 GHZ and we have upgrade the server operating system.

We'll also mention that we have a third server we built last year that is locally remote (wireless) that makes key backups of everything on a daily basis.

It will probably take us a few weeks to get everything on the site restored (some areas may take longer) and in good working order. During this time we will be very much behind in our emails and also responding to the new music we received (15 CDs and counting!). But don't worry, we will eventually respond to your email.

Thanks for your patience during this time. We can promise you that after this upgrade we don't plan on any further upgrades to our servers for atleast a few years! biggrin.gif

Well, those upgrades will no doubt be continual, but hopefully without all the down time at least biggrin.gif

Tonight we activated the main website. This should result in 90% of our site working. Although, there could be some minor issues here and there.....

Would encourage everyone to post a message here if you are having any difficulties at all. Please include the exact page URL:

Paul,
I wonder whether the reason my user status changed to Standard is an unintended consequence of the spaces in my userid.

Paul,

On my PCs (two of them anyway) the Celtic Radio Community Home page (http://www.celticradio.net/php/index.php) is about a mile wide in IE7 (ver 7.0.5730.11), it looks fine in Firefox (ver 2.0.0.11) I am running my graphics card in 1024x768 resolution 32bit.

This is a known issue that I am working on. I've gotten about half of a revised homepage written. If you want to try it try http://www.celticradio.net/php/index-new.php. Keep in mind that this page is still a Work in Progress and does not yet feature everything in the main page. Nor have I yet tested it in IE. I guess I should go ahead and do that...

note: worked for me just now in IE

Will look into that issue Mailagnas. Yes, the community home page is a mile wide! We will see if we can get that fixed in the meantime! smile.gif

Also, please note that there are some issues with the Private Message System. We will eventually get around to fix those issues. The main issue is that it sometimes reports that you have been blocked to respond to a message from a member.

Don't believe it though! Its just an error!

As usual I am a tad late but the changes sound like it is worth the wait. Good Luck and thanks for thinking of us via a better radio site!

Thanks for everyones patience on the site reconfiguration project.

Some good news, we finally put the finishing touches on our network, servers and backup reconfiguration plan. I can not tell you how awesome the new computer hardware, network and software is running.

All in all we condensed 3 servers down to 2 - replaced those 2 servers with brand new hardware; replaced our network and nic cards with a speedy gigabtye node; upgraded the webserver's operating system; upgraded our website scripting language and database versions; moved email services overs to Celtic Radio and created one heck of a backup/disaster recovery plan.

A big thankyou to our Celtic Radio Founder's who financed 80% of this endeveour! Speaky of our Founder accounts, we still have some work to bring back 100% functionalty of website and email. That will occur this week as we are bringing all of our DNS services under one provider.

So, a bit of more work to do yet! There has been plenty of issues, problems and mysterious - but happy to report all have been solved! We are 90% complete. Also, I wanted to mention that emails and new CDs are very much behind.

If you have requested assistance, technical support or founder services please expect a response within the next week.

If you are a musician, agent or manager - your CD will be indexed into our broadcast within the next week and an email response will be sent.

Thats the update! wink.gif

Just a quick note that the Highlander Radio stream is now being filtered with a hardware accelerated AGC enhanced system.

Gated AGC, Stereo Expander, Bass EQ, 5 Band Processor and Clipper. There is a noticable richness and depth of the sound quality compared to other streams.

We've also re-aquired our MP3PRO designation on Live365 and have switched to a broadcast mode that should sync up the website a little better.

Member Maps are now back online, affiliates program and the Community home page is once again working........

The last issue we are aware of, because of server upgrades, is the private messenging system which might incorrectly give an error message that you are blocked!

I Unfortunetly Travel back and forth between Cape Breton Nova Scotia and Maine A Great deal, and cannot spend the time I Want listening. I Very much appreciate the fine music and service at Highlander Radio and will continue to listen no matter what. Actually the messaging system said I had two private message yesterday and there weren't any new ones there. Hope everything starts up okay. Other than that I notice in the links for Celtic radio station that CelticGrove (while still having the site name and logo on the web page, is somthing totallydifferent. Might ant to check it out.

We had some messages sent by another Celtic Radio member which was more of an advertisement than anything else so we cleaned the database of those messages.

Also, we are working on some security issues. If you receive a message about hostnames and the menu is unavailable, just wait 10-15 mins and the menu will become available.

We are working on the security today Sunday after 3:00 PM.

Thats great Madscotmans! We have a great listening time with our Civil War music and we are known to dabble into a little Civil War discussion on here. Celtic music played a big role in the Civil War and we want to honor that and the men that served on both sides.

Just a note to everyone that we are trying our best to get caught up with all of the Celtic Radio Business - but with all of the hardware changes it will probably be another week.

We've got an incredible stack of CD submissions from some awesome groups like Barleyjuice and Black 47 to name a few. Yes we need to pick January CD Winners and announce our February contest. Just a note, we have a ton of CDs to give away so I can promise you that St. Patrick's day will be our biggest CD giveaway EVER!

And we have a laundry list of new features coming down the pike for our Celtic Radio Founders!

The one item that is still not fixed on the site is the pop-up PM (Private Messaging) system. Please use the PM on the memberbar for now!

Hopefully this thread will be closed soon once we have completed all of the fixes due to the upgrades!

This issue with using our site messenger and receiving a "blocked" error message has been resolved.

Site Messenger from the drop down menu is now working properly.

This is the last issue that has now been resolved because of the server software and hardware upgrades.

Any other problems please report them here!
