Full story here

Up to his ears in legal documents, Phillip Dean is fed up with the judicial system.

"That's the kind of court system we've got in Jackson County, Alabama and I want everybody to know," Dean says.

So he put a sign in his front lawn saying "Our Court System Is a Joke."

A message landing him behind bars.

"I was in a cell about four foot wide and six foot long and nothing in it but a toilet," he explains.

Here's a follow up on this story. It seems the judge didn't get away with it completely, even though he needs to be sent to a remedial course on the First Amendment, instead of just being told "Don't do that again." You can't lock someone up just because they say you're an idiot (especially if you really are).

First Ammendment rights are an EXTREMELY important provision of the constitution. It amounts to a critical part of the system of checks and balances that are built into our political system. We need to bear that in mind when someone publishes a story we don't like. Good post, Sir Swanny.

Maisky, I believe that ALL of "bill of rights" are extrememely important, and each of the ten was designed to play a role in the checks and balances of the "System". If we allow ourselves to pick and choose which to support and which to reject we do ourselves and our neighbors grave diservice.

I agree, sir. That is why I support the ACLU (even if I don't support all of their causes), the SOLE purpose of which is to support the constitution. biggrin.gif

Then there's the 10th Amendment, which is the one most disregarded by the Federal government.
QUOTE
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Seems to me that if the ACLU truly wanted to enforce the entire Constitution, they would be more supportive of states' rights.
