Yes, Runrig are an excellent band - very dramatic to see. And, if you can, see them in Scotland. They have in the past played a live gig at Loch Lomond, imagine that if you can. Also at Edinburgh Castle, with the ramparts as a backdrop. |

i absolutely love Runrig. I think that their Stamping Ground album is one of their very best. I would love to see them live...here's hoping they cross the pond soon... cheers! Lc |

http://www.fourteenfalls.com Glad to hear you're coming across the pond Shortbit. Saw Donny Monroe (ex lead singer of Runrig) in The Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline. He was brilliant!! |

Malcolm... I will be staying in Lanark... easier for my friends in Newarthill but I most definitely will be in your area..Lord willing... I will have to stop in for a cup of tea!!!!Besides Stirling and Edinburgh. what do you recommend as a "must" see in your area.. I know this is off the topic but I didn't know where else to answer Malcolm's comment. |

Hi all you other Runrig fans out there. Just to say that I saw them in concert again last night in Glasgow - total sellout - and they were fantastic - they had pipers and drummers on stage with them plus Duncan Chisholm playing the fiddle. I've been a fan for 17 years now -went to see them in Denmark in the summer - and they just get better and better. Pity they couldn't do a gig for Tartan Day in NY! Anyone want to chat about them? F. |

Hi Had posted earlier but didn't have a chance to get the link but Runrig is one of my favorite Scottish groups. Here is their homepage where you can get info on this group. Am hoping they tour the US sometime soon. I know even my wife would love to go. http://www.runrig.co.uk/home.htm |
Posted by: scottish2 18-Oct-2001, 05:19 AM |
Yeah I just found out about them late last year hoping to get lucky someday and see them live. I think even my wife would enjoy them as she likes their music. |
Posted by: scottish2 11-Jan-2002, 06:33 AM |
Agreed and make sure to check out the request feature then under R because Paul's got ALLOT of runrig songs I should know! |

Hi just wanted to post this message I got back from the Runrig site on tour schedules and such as far as coming to the US.
|
Posted by: gbwyireland 14-Jan-2002, 01:25 PM |
- that's a little dissappointing but at least they haven't ruled out a tour in the future. At one point i had heard something about the band having little interest in coming over. Perhaps with an increaingly positive reaction to Bruce Guthro's solo music in Canada at least, there will be even more support for Runrig crossing the mighty atlantic. |
Posted by: scottish2 14-Jan-2002, 05:45 PM |
You can always drop the band a note and suggest they plan a visit to North America sometime in the near future. The more requests they get maybe they'll plan a trip. Here's the address I used off their website. [email protected] |

Feeona, Sounds like an awesome show! And all the way from Glasgow, Scotland! Would love to see them in concert sometime. From what I hear they put on a great show! Do you know when they are touring the U.S.? |

Well by now u know i am an ardent rr fan if u have followed my other postings lol. But i couldnt resist this one hehe. Aye they certainly are one of the best bands around; hopefully they will go on for a few years still as i easily can imagine u can get fed up living on the road for 30 years ... But dont lets think of that, brr it makes me shiver. The lads still have loads of fun and write brilliant songs and the new cd is due to come out around chrismas just in time for Barrowlands lol. I owe them soooo much ... Thanks Rory, Calum, Bruce, Malcolm, Iain and Brian for everything (and not just for bringing me up here ...). Well some of u might have guessed who i am lol so i would be interested who of the other chatters are in here. And maybe you know how to write Sgiathnach in the right way by now looool |
Posted by: scottish2 22-Nov-2002, 08:49 AM
I could tell that from your ID alone.

Posted by: FloweroftheWest 27-Nov-2002, 03:33 PM |
Thank ye Scottish! Aye a wonderful song and tho it is more about Uibhst it also applies to Skye where Rory, Calum, Donnie and Malcolm went to school. Long time it took them to find their Gaelic identity, twenty years i believe. They wrote a song about it - Fichead Bliadhna. I love their lyrics: one of my favourites is Heart of olden glory: Theres thunder clouds round the hometown bay as I walk out in the rain Through the sepia showers and fotoflood days. I caught a gleating glimpse of life and though the waters black as night The colours of Scotland leave you young inside. There must be a place under the sun, where hearts of olden glory grow young. There s a vision coming soon Down the lens where the headlands stand i feel a healing through the land a cross for a people like the wind through your hands. There must be a pace under the sun where hearts of olden glory grow young. |

Yeah a close Scottish friend of mine she got me interested in Runrig a couple years ago. Also into The Proclaimers thanks to her. |
Posted by: Catriona 03-Dec-2002, 03:23 AM |
I love the Proclaimers.... the fact that they would not 'modify' their Fife accents for anyone is just one reason that I like them. The lyrics of their songs are great, too. Their 'Letter from America' - with the echoes of the newer clearances in Scotland - 'Bathgate no more, Linwood no more, Irvine no more'..... all those places were the centres of industry in Scotland which have been decimated by industrial decline.... they are high unemployment black spots in Scotland and a reason why so many Scots emigrated in the 1970s 80s and 90s.... most have chosen to go to Australia - it's guaranteed sunshine and very British outlook appeals to so many! I haven't seen any mention of 'Capercaillie' here. I have a number of their early CDs. |
Posted by: FloweroftheWest 04-Dec-2002, 01:10 PM |
Aye the Proclaimers no bad .... and just to tease ye I saw them life in Portree this July. They are almost as good as Runrig . And their lifesshow s great. It was quite short though - but admittedly, watching the twins I think I know why they only played a bit more than an hour. Nevertheless it was a great night ... but now i am looking forward to Barrowlands LoL (verra impatient now hehe). Aye Capercaillie are superb too i ve got a couple of cds and tapes as well. Great for Gaelic Songs. |
Posted by: Catriona 04-Dec-2002, 02:30 PM |
I've seen both the Proclaimers and Capercaillie, live. I prefer the Proclaimers, though. For those of you who don't know what a Capercaillie is.... it's kinda like a very large grouse or pheasant... they live in the northern highlands |
Posted by: MDF3530 04-Dec-2002, 04:24 PM |
Runrig, they aren't bad. Not my favorite group though. |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 05-Dec-2002, 12:26 PM |
My Runrigs ever faves are: "thairis air a ghleann", "Meadhan oidche air an acairsaid", and "I'll keep coming home", complete Gaelic collection and complete first 3 albums ... I've nagged so much in year '95 (or '94) that my father took my to cologne to this runrig open-air!!! "soooo geil!!!" (sorry) |
Posted by: scottish2 05-Dec-2002, 12:36 PM |
I love their live version of Loch Lomond. |
Posted by: FloweroftheWest 05-Dec-2002, 02:24 PM |
Uill; Uill, here we go again lol. Ok my favourite (or one of them hehe) is Chi mi Geamhradh, Sabhal aig Neil, Running to the Light, Wall of China, Dust, Going Home .... hehe and so on Life Siol Goraidh and SAN |
Posted by: FloweroftheWest 18-Dec-2002, 09:22 AM |
eyup peepls just wanted to say hello to all of ye who were at Barrowland on Saturday. Thanks for making it such a great night for audience and band. It was worth all the trouble!! I had a fantastic night and the band as well. Ye can see it on me piccies´ |
Posted by: MDF3530 18-Dec-2002, 04:18 PM
Proclaimers, they ain't bad. That song "I'm Gonna Be" (American title-"I Would Walk 500 Miles") has helped me in a board game my friends and I like to play called Encore! For those who've never heard of it, depending on the color of the space you land on, there is a corresponding word on a card and you have to sing a song with that word in it. They have to be actual songs; no original works. Pop music is preferred but commercial jingles and show tunes are allowed. |
Posted by: FloweroftheWest 10-Mar-2003, 09:40 AM |
Hi Paul! I did not quite know where to put this but i suppose it will do , lol. Ye ken i miss "Wall of China" from yer playlist, of "The Stamping Ground" as well as "Sabhal aig Neill". I suppose I could name the whole Album lol, but i think particularly these two songs are quite catching ... Cheers mate! While I am at it ... lol. Recovery would be great as well ... Tis such a beautiful song ...

Just wanted to say that Runrig's 30th anniversary concert is finally announced ... in fact it' s been a week out lol. Just my usual long pipeline hehehe. It will be in Stirling, the Castle Esplanade. So far its Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham for support but I am sure there s more in the line up ... It will be an absolute tremendous party. No need to say that i ve got already tickets lol (price 28.60 L; tickets from ticketweb and various stores and halls throughout scotland incl. Inverness, Aberdeen and Stirling; of course Edinburgh as well if I remember right; starting time is 7.30 so far but that could well change) |
Posted by: Faileas 24-Sep-2003, 12:56 PM |
Kept quiet for a long time in this thread lool but i think its time to speak up again lol with the fantastic 30th anniversary gig in Stirling past and the new album Proterra out. A word about that. Brasilian expat Paul Mounsey who returned home this summer had a hand on this and as some of ye might know he loves juggling with computer technic and traditional scottish songs. Did a great job on Proterra, particularly on "An Toll Dubh" from Recovery album. But honestly Proterra does rock. A bit harder , more dramatic in some bits but very melodic all the way through. Favourite song is a cold shiver one called "From the North", a cooperation between singer Bruce Guthro, Guitarist Malcolm Jones and band bard Calum McDonald on Percussion. Celtic orientated I ll give ye the words i think hope u like them From the north came a warrior, bearing burdens dark and deep. I ve a will and i ve a wanting, and miles to go before i sleep . Blood red wine, a toast for heroes, and harping till the morning comes. Come the dawn, the road will lead us if ye ride with me tonight. very dramatic and ye can see the warring tribe going out to get the cattle of the neibouring clan or mebbe to fight for Prince Tcharlach ... And hear the horses and bagpipes phew back to atmospheric keyboard and shiver down the spine. The other of my faves is of course Faileas air an Airigh, where my nick comes from. Radiating happiness and idyll, as it is about the peaceful atmosphere of the Airigh, a pios of pasture on the family croft near the grazing cattle with the family sitting in sunshine and blissful harmony. Just one to melt away ... Anyway my tip is get Proterra, borrow it from someone or whatever lol but i am sure it wont disappoint |
Posted by: CelticRose 29-Nov-2003, 02:09 PM |
This is another one of my favorite bands. I don't have all their CDs yet....still working on that. I do have Celtic Glory, Beat of the Drum, Recovery, In Search of Angels and their latest, Proterra. I think that In Search of Angels is my favorite. One of my favorite song of theirs is "The Big Wheel." I just love the rock sound of that song. I wonder if they speak Gaelic fluently or if someone translates the English into the Gaelic for them. Doesn't matter. But I just think it is really neat to hear the Gaelic, even though I can't sing along! |

Runrig and the Proclaimers are great in my opinion, and I'm glad to see the opinion of many others here I grew up listening to Runrig because my mother was very much into Scottish music, but only recently has the influence struck. She had two videos of Runrig, one was the Loch Lomond concert, not sure about the other, going to dig them out tomorrow and watch them. As for the Proclaimers, it's another case of I heard their music when they first appeared (late 80s) but only recently found my own interest in them. This time is was thanks to hearing one of their lesser known songs on local radio a few years ago, "Then I Met You", and the lyrics hit me in a big way. Been a fan since then but never had any opportunity to go see them, or Runrig even, perform live. No matter though, some people cringe at the mention of them, but I can proudly say I like them a lot. |
Posted by: CelticRose 01-Dec-2003, 01:36 PM |
Snowblind! You have concert videos of Runrig????????! Wow! What I wouldn't give to see those, but here in the states I doubt we could even get something like that. I will have to check on Amazon.com. uk and maybe they will have them. Never thought about concert videos of them! Woweeee! Thanks! I like The Proclaimers from what little I have heard. I must admit I have only heard a couple of songs of theirs. Runrig and Capercaillie has really struck me! |
Posted by: Catriona 02-Dec-2003, 05:27 AM
Snowblind. I have a lot of friends who are professional musicians in Scotland - most of them on the folk scene.... They think I am losing my sense of good music because I like the Proclaimers! If you can, have a listen to 'The Best of the Proclaimers'. It has three of my favourites on that CD - 'Sunshine on Leith', 'Cap in Hand' and 'Throw the 'R' away'... Cap in Hand is a really powerful song - and 'Throw the 'R' away' is about when people suggested they should lose their Fife accents and 'anglicise' their songs in order to get a record contract! The Proclaimers are headlining the Glasgow Hogmanay concerts this year. (Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the Runrig thread!) |
Posted by: snowblind 07-Dec-2003, 10:18 AM |
Sorry for the late reply, CelticRose. The two I have are City of Lights and Wheel in Motion. Both are on amazon.co.uk on video (and I think one on dvd too) but you'd need to be sure your vcr or dvd player can play PAL videos or Region 2 dvds. Try amazon.com first and then the UK site if that fails. I watched Wheel in Motion on Tuesday, it covers a tour they did which ended with the Loch Lomond concert. There are a few behind-the-scenes bits with the band talking about their status and the tour (which was in 1991) throughout the video and some helicopter shots of Scottish mountains and lochs to please. As for the music, you have songs from Loch Lomond to start, then 2 or 3 from Edinburgh Castle, 2 or 3 from Germany, 1 or 2 from the Western Isles and then it's back to Loch Lomond for the end. It's around the 90 minute mark in length and worth getting I've not watched the City of Lights video yet but when I do I'll give my thoughts on whether you should get that one too, I know that it's a compilation of regular music videos and live performances so it'll be good no doubt. Catriona, I'll keep an eye out for that cd next time I'm in HMV. I love having music recommended so thanks |
Posted by: CelticRose 07-Dec-2003, 03:57 PM |
Hi Snowblind! thanks for the reply. My DVD and video player will not play PAL or Region 2, so I will look on Amazon.com here and see what they have to offer. I bet the concert videos are great though! I also need to get me some more Runrig CDs. I have several but not all of them. I love their new one Proterra and In Search of Angels the best that I have. |

I too enjoy Runrig. I think they are one of the better Scottish bands out there. It would be great if they took on an American tour in 2004---It would be great to see them live!! |
Posted by: CelticRose 08-Dec-2003, 03:10 PM |
Roisin, has Runrig ever toured the states? Wow! That would be great! |
Posted by: Roisin-Teagan 08-Dec-2003, 06:30 PM
Rosemary, I really have know idea, but I sure would love to see them perform live. |
Posted by: Catriona 09-Dec-2003, 02:58 AM |
FotW - aka Failais is the Runrig specialist here - but often gets too busy to post... so, here's what appears to be an 'official' fan club site. May be details there of tours. http://www.runrig.co.uk/n_wire03.htm |
Posted by: CelticRose 09-Dec-2003, 02:32 PM |
Thanks Cat! Now that is one Runrig site I have not seen. I added it to my favorites's list, which is getting pretty long! Now we can keep up with their activities better here. Sure wish I could buy some of their DVDs here, but so far no luck. Our format here in the states doesn't match the ones in GB. But I will keep looking. |

Hello everyone and to all Runrig fans here ! I am a French Runrig fan but unfortunately I have never seen the band live ! I keep waiting for them to come for a gig in the South East of France ( Savoy ) or even in Switzerland ! That would be great ! French fans are really disappointed by the lack of gigs in France but some of them might come soon here to talk about their favourite band (n'est-ce pas Losgann ?) !!! I love the Band latest album : Proterra ! Wonderful CD. What do you think about it ? Give me your opinion ! |
Posted by: CelticRose 11-Jan-2004, 06:32 PM |
Proterra is awesome! I love it and everything they do. However, I think my favorite CD of theirs is In Search of Angels. I love every song on there. I am sorry you have not been able to see Runrig in concert. I live in the states and I don't think they do much tours here either. |
Posted by: Lionel 11-Jan-2004, 06:49 PM |
Hello again CelticRose ! Once again we have the same tastes ! The CD "In search of Angels" is brilliant ! One of my favourites too ! The new Runrig singer is Canadian, so there might be a Runrig tour in Canada and in the USA ! So keep your fingers crossed. Whenever I can get information about tour dates, I will let you know. |
Posted by: CelticRose 11-Jan-2004, 07:18 PM |
Thank you Lionel! I did not know the new lead singer was Canadian. I know a lot of people were upset when the other lead singer left, but that's all I know. |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 02:54 PM |
Welcome CelticRose ! In 1997 the Scottish lead singer Donnie Munro left the band ! He was replaced by Canadian lead singer Bruce Guthro. Some fans stopped following the band when Donnie left and other fans discovered the band with Bruce ! I don't think there is any problem because I love Runrig before and after this change in the lead singing ! I think that Runrig has changed and gets better and better ! That's a pity for those who think that the problem is in the fact that Runrig is no longer a Scottish band. Runrig is above all a Celtic band. |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 03:19 PM |
Got to say there is worlds between Donnie's and Bruce's voices. Neither sings bad but Donnie's voice has that really good mudulation... |
Posted by: CelticRose 12-Jan-2004, 03:42 PM |
Thanks for the info. I didn't know the names of the lead singers and I don't think I have any of the earlier Runrig CDs with Donnie's voice. |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 03:44 PM |
Right ! I agree with you. I love Donnie's voice. Bruce's is very different but I like it too especially in songs like "The old boys", the opening of the "Proterra" CD ! |
Posted by: CelticRose 12-Jan-2004, 05:14 PM |
Which CDs are Donnie's voice in? The CDs I have are Celtic Glory, Beat The Drum, Proterra, Recovery and In Search of Angels. I don't think Donnie is in any of those, right? |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 05:22 PM |
mmh okay Donnie is definitly on: Celtic Glory, Beat the Drum & Recovery I don't know Proterra but I own all Runrig CD's I could ever find (a CD version of their first LP, Play Gaelic as well, searched a long time for it), if you want I give you a list. Bruce sings on "In Search of Angels" |
Posted by: Losgann 12-Jan-2004, 05:25 PM |
hi all !! I'm new, poor french, a big Runrig fan Proterra is the last Runrig CD. In Search of Angels is the firts CD with Bruce Bye Losgann |

Losgann, please help us ! Which are the CDs with Donnie and the CDs with Bruce ? |
Posted by: Losgann 12-Jan-2004, 05:27 PM |
easy, In Search of Angels, Live at Celtic Connections 2002, the Stamping Ground and Proterra it's Bruce... All the others it's Donnie... |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:28 PM
Welcome Losgann ! Never mind if your English is poor (sure it is quite good ) ! Nice to meet you to speak about Runrig. We really need perfect Riggies here to let the people know how good this band is ! |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:30 PM
And what do you think about Bruce's voice ? I like it ! What about you ? |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 05:30 PM |
If you need the perfect Runrig fan, ask Faileas, she's moved to Skye... I think she even met ppl from the band.. anyway she's hugely into them |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:35 PM |
Oh thanks very much Aon Daonna ! You know this forum perfectly well ! |
Posted by: Losgann 12-Jan-2004, 05:38 PM |
I prefer Bruce's voice than Donnie's voice... But I like all CD with Donnie too... it's different that's all... I met the band too I will be happy to chat with Faileas (if I can find him/her) ! |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 05:40 PM |
well she's quite busy atm with another forum but she does come thru once in a while. I prefer the line-up with Donnie, he's got nuances in his voice against which Bruce's voice just sounds feeble. (being a classical singer myself I'm finely tuned into voices, it makes me very very picky!) |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:41 PM |
So Losgann, you have to contact him or her ! Do you know that there is going to be soon a song dedicated to you on Highlander Radio ? So keep connected ! |
Posted by: CelticRose 12-Jan-2004, 05:42 PM |
Many thanks everyone! I haven't been a Runrig fan for long and just recently got the CDs I do have. Have to listen to them more carefully, I think. Welcome Losgann |

Posted by: Losgann 12-Jan-2004, 05:47 PM |
so Aon_Daonna, you don't like Bruce's voice ?? |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 05:49 PM |
never said I don't like it. It's a well trained voice and he uses it nicely but I do have other standarts. |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:50 PM |
Losgann, CelticRose and Aon Daonna, I dedicate the song played just now to you : Altan, The lass from Glenshee ! Beautiful isn't it ? |

merci bien, lionel! |
Posted by: Losgann 12-Jan-2004, 05:52 PM |
I think I'm not objective in talking about voice, I fell in love with Bruce's voice the very first time I heard him Altan is great Lionel, too calm for me but great |
Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Jan-2004, 05:55 PM |
mmh actually I liked him better in combination with his old band |
Posted by: Lionel 12-Jan-2004, 05:55 PM

Lionel! thank you for the dedication of the Altan song. I LOVE Altan. I have one of their CDs as well. Many thanks again! |

Aon Daonna, you are welcome in France and thanks for your compliments. But you are also very lucky to live in Scotland. If I was in Scotland this year, one of the first things I would do is to buy a ticket to any Runrig concert in the country, just to enjoy Runrig live music ! And Scotland is a beautiful country, I lived in Inverness for one year and I enjoyed it a lot, I made many friends, I found Scottish people very friendly. |

You are welcome CelticRose ! I really want to know more about this band. Where do they come from ? Which CD have you got ? I love this song "The Lass from Glen Shee" ! |

Hi Lionel! I had started an Altan thread awhile back and a few of us were talking about them there. I think, but don't know for sure, that they are from Ireland. I have the "Blue Idol" CD. Not sure what CD that song you mention is from. |
Posted by: Lionel 13-Jan-2004, 04:00 PM |
The song I mentioned is from the CD "Finest Altan". I suppose that CD is a best of the band !? |

Ahoi, Froggie Welcome on this board here Sgiathnach from the RR chat here ( i know we weren 't for a while alas) Great to see ye on here , too Time we got this thread going again Yeah , Lionel, Altan are from Ireland, i don't know them very well but i heard them occasionally on Celticradio and think they're quite ok As for Bruce, hehehe, I am slightly opinionated alas, as a) i got my very own Bruce , and with Proterra on at the moment (track Day of Days) as well as Stirling castle concert on 23rd of August 2003 and Usher Hall on 13th of December where that boy was absolutely fantastic (as was the rest of them btw) with a star performance on From the North, which is one of my favourites on that cd (along with Proterra, Empty Glens, Gabriels Sword and Faileas air an àiridh, and An Reiteach not to forget lol .....) Bruce has brought new life to the band in my opinion and new creativity , as well. And, btw. Froggie, nice pic of Bruce ye got there. Where did ye get it? |

Ho ho Red Grouse ! Happy to know you, so nice to meet you ! So you are Runrig daft ! You lucky so and so ! You can afford seeing Runrig live twice or thrice a year and in, France Runrig is live only once a century ! Are Runrig musicians and singer afraid of Froggies ? We never ate anyone alive and kicking ! However we love haggii !!!! The Stirling Castle Concert is the concert I will be dreaming for the rest of my life. Losgann (the other Froggie) was there ! And she keeps saying : "I was at the Stirling Castle concert." In France we love Celtic music (Chieftains, MacKennitt, Dan ar Braz, Tri Yann, Alan Stivell, Capercaillie and lots of others). We love Scottish artists and many Scottish bands were or are so big in France (Texas, Simple Minds, Big Country, the Silencers, Travis, Marillion, Lloyd Cole and others). So why o' why Runrig is afraid of coming to France. They think that they don't have an audience, fans. This is wrong ! They are not a very adventurous band. They should be more adventurous. Even in Switzerland they only go the German speaking part of the country (because they are big in Germany) but they forget the French speaking part of Switzerland ! I agree with you, Famous Grouse, when you say that Bruce gave Runrig a new beginning ! Now stop kidding Runrig and come to France, you'll be great and big in Paris. |

Eh Michaela Yesterday, someone tell me "you have to see Faileas, she is the big fan of Runrig here" I thought "My Joss, I need to speak to her then"... Find your profile, saw Michaela... Here we meet again !! You know, you miss nothing this times, the chatroom is nearly dead... don't know why ! Lionel, I don't keep saying "I was in Stirling Gig !!" because it's not the better I saw... I can keep saying "I was in Zurich Gig... AND MEET THE BAND" but I will behave and say nothing
I love this pic... It's a promo pic for Proterra who was on the web, access only withe the Empty Glens single... |

Chuuttt Losgann !

And on that wee note, lol, even tho i do like my dram Uisge beatha , especially Talisker, Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich and Isle of Skye Blend , would ye please stop calling me "Famous Grouse", or people will think me a drunkard alas "Faileas" translates as "reflection, shadow", and it is taken of course from that wonderful balad "Faileas air an àirigh" = Reflections on the pasture, which ranges very high on proterra hehe. Unfortunately they didn't sing that in Usher Hall, but they need some songs for the forthcoming spring tour hehe |
Posted by: Losgann 15-Jan-2004, 04:32 PM |
Michaela, you speak gaelic, so forget french Faileas is a wonderful song... the motto of the french association came from it ! Togaidh Sinn Ar Fonn An Ard |
Posted by: Lionel 15-Jan-2004, 05:43 PM |
Dear Faileas ! Sorry ! That was a little joke and I did not want to offend you. I agree with you about that Runrig song on the album Proterra. Wonderful ! As regards whisky, how stange ? We have nearly the same tastes : Talisker, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Cardhu and Glenfiddich for me ! Do you live on the Isle of Skye ? I lived in Scotland for one year and I decided to spend my last week-end on the Isle of Skye ! I cried and I drunk lots of Champagne ! Wonderful memories. You were so lucky to be in Usher Hall last year ! I have been listening to Runrig music since 1987 but I have never seen them live ! What a pity. Hope to see them live one day maybe in Scotland because they are afraid to come to visit us, Froggies ! |

Dont worry, Lionel, hehe , i was just pulling yer leg As for Gaidhlig, aye , tis a wonderful language and I love her to bits. My interest in Gaidhlig was roused by these wonderful six guys here, who make such a great music and sing in this dream(field ) language. Following my listening to them, i started to get curious about Scotland and came here first in 1995, when I toured round up via Glasgow, Pitlochrie, Isle of Skye, somewhere nere Grantown and then Edinburgh I think. Anyway, twas a great round trip and got me absolutely hooked on Scotland . So I kept coming and coming back, especially after I had moved to Yorkshire in 1999. So I got teased from here to there why I bothered coming back down to Yorkshire lol, and somehow I thought these guys were right. At Usher Hall 4th December I met another German living on Skye and we spent the afternoon together. Unfortunately I didnt have time to come with her then, but after Celtic Connections 2001 i managed the Saturday in Inverness and after that I knew my days in Yorkshire were counted lol. She helped me to find a job and since end of March 2001 I have the incredible luck of indeed living here. At the moment I am at the Gaelic College in Sleat on the South End, near Armadale, but I have been living in Broadford, Duntulm and Portree hehe, so I've been moving down the whole length of the Island lol and I have to say, I dont intend leaving this fantastic peace of earth "Mountains of black and gold, sunsets falling over the cloud .... " |

Lucky you Faileas! Now what I want to know is since you are so proficient in Gaelic, can you understand Runrig's songs and sing along with them? |
Posted by: Lionel 18-Jan-2004, 09:35 AM |
Faileas ! Thanks for your good sense of humour ! I've been several times on the Isle of Skye, it is a fantastic place, especially the Cuillin hills ! I'm a keen hillwalker ! Lucky you to live in so nice a place ! Enjoy it ! |

Hei, a Rhois ! Tha mi a ' feuchainn, tha mi a ' feuchainn lol. I am trying , I am trying. A dh'innse na fìrinn, hehe, i dont understand every word yet, as I am still learning, so I am not really proficient hehe, but then, I am beginning to understand more and more and reading through the cd booklets or the songbook helped a lot in building up vocabulary. Actually, songs in general are a fantastic way´to learn a language As for singing , hehe, I am trying I am trying, think it's not quite a case of runaway and throwing tomatoes lol, as I can carry a tune even tho my voice is not too great . However, am singing in the Gaelic Choir in Port Righ, Còisir Sgìre Phort Righ, and have also singing classes with Christine Primrose, one of our fine Gaelic Singers here on Skye. Btw, she has published several cds hehe ... (Paul , hope ye read this My fave tracks to sing along with are Cearcal a Chuan, Chi mi n' Geamhraidh and Faileas (the Traditional in there is Teann a-nan thoirt do mo làimh). And of course, Siol Goraidh |

... Not long got their 'Proterra' CD, and love it. Great band, certainly one of my faves. Sad to see Donnie go, but Bruce is doing a grand job. Are there any Runrig DVDs on the market? I've got 3 video tapes but it's just not the same as DVD. Looking forward to Donnie Munro's new DVD - March 2004 release I think it's slated for. |

Well I know they are not available here in the states.........boo hoo! |
Posted by: Kiwi Gael 01-Feb-2004, 02:03 AM |
I haveta admit that I had a bit of a cry when watching Runrig's 'Farewell to Donnie at Stirling Castle' concert on video... especially during the last couple tracks. Well, okay, then... I blubbered like a baby It certainly was an emotional show... |

You know....I am a recent Runrig fan so I of course didn't notice the difference. duh! But I am sure that hard core Runrig fans did! I want to get a hold of some Runrig DVD concerts but they are hard to get here in the states. |
Posted by: Kiwi Gael 01-Feb-2004, 02:26 PM
I haven't seen any DVDs advertised on their homepage, as yet, but I'll be very surprised if they don't release one in the near future, if they haven't already. Whoever invented DVDs needs a pat on the back - I love them! |
