When I was in the military in Warner Robins, GA, we would have to pack up the car for the annual pilgrimmage to my hometown. After receiving one of those Sears camper tops to add all of the fun and joy that couldn't be crammed in to the already bulging Nissan Sentra that included myself, my wife, and a small hole the size of my son in the back seat, I diligently packed all of the gifts into the shell.

It was perfect. All fit neatly in. I got the family in the car. We were actually going to leave before my scheduled departure time...for once. I had just pulled out on to the road to head for the highway...yep...I see a big, white blur behind me. It seems that my tightening efforts had actually ripped the tiedowns and 40 mph is the exact speed for a tear away. Shell & gifts flew everywhere...as the rain started to come down.

Luckily my son was young & didn't understand some of the phrases that I used as I packed wet presents back into the shell & re-tied the shell.

I guess it really boils down to if you see the glass as half empty or half full. My ancestors came from Scotland, lived in Ireland---but didn't marry Irish, & then moved to the US. I don't consider them Irish. The kids were from Scot parents & moved to the US. So, are they Americans? Not to me. Scots.

FREEEEEEEEDOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure that I will catch flames for this, but this is my opinion:

1. Always have a WRITTEN living will that states your intentions and keep two copies in different locations--no not the bedroom and bathroom.

2. I wouldn't choose to be in that state; however, without a living will, I believe the tube should be inserted & the parents allowed to care for her.

3. Why the epiphany years after the fact by Michael S? Maybe we can ask the adulterers "girlfriend" and "kids."

4. If in fact this is her wish to die, then let's not sit for days on end as she has a "peaceful" death. Michael wants her to die, then he should be given the means and a deadline to kill her or to shut the hell up.

I don't believe this is a "peaceful" death. Try going without eating a few days. Don't you just feel all warm inside?? Those starving in Africa must be pretty blissful. Why do we think they are in dire straits when they are starving and Terri is having the "time of her life" as she starves. Mixed messages to me.

I am a big supporter of free. Here are my sites:

Software: http://aft.ancestry.com

GEDs: http://www.geneanet.org http://www.gencircles.com

There are many others and you do get more info and gadgets at pay sites, but I don't do a bunch of it. Also, look for sites that have the mail groups that will send info when people find stuff or are looking. People are generous when you have a little for them, too.

Good luck!

Chris

In my humble opinion...

My dad has the FEE Family Treemaker and I much prefer my FREE Ancestry Family Tree. There are things that Family Treemaker just added that I have been able to do for some time. Of course, I started using Ancestry Family Tree first and I like it. He started using Family Treemaker and he likes it. I just think Ancestry Family Tree a little more newbie friendly...Well, that and the fact that I'm a tightwad!!

I believe that we should do more in their memory. They fought for something that they believed in and it was legal in their respective states during that time. Many fought merely because state prode was greater than national pride. What would you think if 100 years from now, our memories are degraded because we had--dare I say it--dogs and cats for pets?? beer_mug.gif

I'm an Aiken (supposedly under Clan Gordon) but cannot make the link to other Aiken members (other than stories passed down.) As it goes, the line came from Scotland to the Antrim area then moved into the U.S. (South Carolina around 1785-1795.) There are a great deal there that trace back but--alas--I cannot find my limb of their tree...
