Broadcast Schedule

Just a note that over the next few weeks we will be working on our broadcast! Wow, can't believe I am finally starting on some of the good stuff!

The work involves creating a broadcast schedule of regularly schedule shows. Such as a bagpip hour, childrens time, jigs & reels, featured artists and much more. This will require creating some scripts and programs to get it to all work. We will also have a schedule page showing Monday through Sunday based on your local time, so you will not need to figure out when different types of music will play.

We have actually just installed our "After Hours" program that plays from 11:00 PM to 6:AM (EST). During this time we play only soft celtic music and requests are turned off.

During this time Rebecca (our official Voice of Highlander Radio) is taking a break, but she will be back soon with new trailers for the station.

If you have any ideas on a program or specialty music during a certain time, post it here!

Uhhh...Are bag pips anything like Gladys Knight and the Pips?

Is the "After Hours" programming going to be fair to the folks on the other side of the world? I don't think that I would be tuned into CR if I had to listen to that stuff all the time and not have the option of choosing some songs to listen to. I don't think it's right to shortchange the members in that time zone, just because we are asleep over here in this hemisphere.

You bring up a good point. Looking at our geostats though the majority of listening (85%-90%) is occurring in North America. The United Kingdom is approx 5 hours ahead of us here in the NorthEast (U.S.) So the "After hours" broadcast for them would be 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.

While we are internationally available, the largest listening segment is here in the U.S., so we will try to do some things to bring a little variety to the week.

Might want to set some of it up as weekly shows. I agree that regular shows are a great idea, but I also like how things are now. Wouldn't want to choke it out without realising it.

What about doin' some foot stompin' pub style music Friday and Sat. nights? Say starting at 6pm EST. That way our friends to the east will have it going at 11 pm their time.
Or what about a friday night live, with live albums played in their entirety. That way people can hear Silly Wizard 'Live' ( for example) in a concert setting even though they broke up years ago.
There are pleanty of concert albums out there by many of the artist hear on CR.

I know scheduling music "shows" and concentrating on one particular style of music sounds like a good idea, but I am reluctant to change. I like Highlander Radio the way it is. If I feel like listening to something upbeat, I have the option to request the song(s) I want. If I want something a bit more relaxed, I have that option, too. Please don't make any drastic changes.

And then you have some of the few like myself, who has to work the occasional night shift and the only thing that keeps me awake (besides the IV of coffee) is the toe tapping celtic music I can request... I guess I'll just have to switch back over to my MP3s at night... darn.

Paul, the 10% -15% of the listeners who aren't from North America, are the same people we all talk to in the forum. They play by the same rules that we do, while in the forum. They deserve to have the same rules as listeners that we have in North America.

Nothing wrong with adding a little variety. By all means, I would be the first to encourage you to do so. Play the same show twice a day for 1- 1 1/2 hours with a twelve hour spread. Meaning, start a show at 1 A.M. and 1 P.M. our time. This way everyone gets to hear the show wherever they may be and before and after the show, they still have the option of choosing the songs that they want to hear.

Let's not alienate those 10% -15% (and hopefully more to come), just because they are a minority in a numbers game.

I agree with doing 1-2 hour shows, but not an all nighter. I also like being able to listen to up-beat stuff at night.

I can certainly see both sides of having a broadcast schedule and not having a broadcast schedule. There are pros and cons to each.

What I can tell you is that we are going to try it out for atleast a little bit and see how it goes. But we will closely monitor our numbers and listeners feedback during this time.
