A listener wrote to us requesting the name of this Glengarry Bhoys song:

"What is the actual title of the song that I think the Glengarry Bhoys sing that has the line "bailing, bailing, hay, hey"? I want to buy this song, but can't find it. Thanks."

We are stumped! Any Glengarry Bhoys fans out there?

Off the top of my head (and yes, I do own everything they released!)... nothing.
Any chance for more than just four words?
Also, note the person who made the request said they *think* GB did it.
There's also always the possibility it was performed live but never recorded.

Drinking is a sport. In order to be competitive, you must practice on a regular basis. Although you can practice alone, it is much more fun to practice with friends. If you're out of shape and practice too hard, you will regret it the next day.

Life is a disease. It is sexually transmitted and always terminal.

Your on the right track - more info for a clue to this song:

"This particular song is one that I've heard the Glengarry Bhoys have done live (lots of times they close their set with it)."

They close with it recently, or several years ago?
(will help nail-down the lineup, and therefore the setlist)

oh, yeah: word of advice to this person: next time they close with this song, ask them about it. They usually hang around after their sets and you can probably ask them. smile.gif

Wow, two days and nobody else chimed in. Somewhat disappointing.
At this point I've listened to every GB CD several times, no songs on there with lyrics reminiscent of what was listed in post#1. So one of two things:
it's not on any CDs
those particular lyrics were added to the live version
Unfortunately I haven't caught a whole lot of GB shows in the last 2 years since they seem to be always performing at the same time as someone else I want to see.

That and the fact that you never know who will be playing in the band anymore. Ashley McCloud steps in on fiddle every now and then but even she's up in the air because of her schedule. Besides her own shows, she also tours with Hadrians Wall whenever possible. I don't know how she keeps going with all the show dates she does.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but ...

The Glengarry Bhoys are no more. Graham Wright has thyroid problems and can't continue, so he dissolved the band. Reports are his medical treatments are going well, but the announcement about the dissolution of the band sounded pretty final.

And I've been listening to them since 2000 and "bailing bailing hey hey" rings no bells with me.

-------------

As for the rest of the band: Graham Smith had just left anyway, Miranda Mulholland has formed a Celtic/Bluegrass fusion band called Mulholland Drive and Ewan Brown now pipes for Hunting McLeod. And I guess Ziggy will finally get to use his law degree.

Indeed, it appears Ziggy has posted such bad news.
However, there is also good news. The problem was caught early, and Graham's prognosis is good.

I had to look around for it, in the "news" area the only comment is from Oct mentioning postponements due to illness.

Hi, I was the listener asking about what I thought was a Glengharry Bhoys song. I had heard it as recently as June 25, 2007. Knowing what I know now (that it would be the last time I would get to see them), I am so glad that I didn't miss their show to kick off the 2007 Celtic Fling--it was only two days after having had knee surgery, but I was there in the front row with my crutches! I know for sure that GB sang the song because I remember I took a video clip of it on my cell phone to send to my daughter who was deployed to UAE (it was one of her favorite Ceilidh songs). Thanks to everyone who tried to figure out what song it was. I'm not positive that it was only a GB song--others may have sang it too. I'm hoping to get to the Philly Scots-Irish Fest in February, so maybe it will pop up there.

Can you post the video clip somewhere? Presumably we'd recognize it then. "Bailing bailing hey hey" just doesn't jog anyone's memory.

....especially for those of us who were at the show you're describing, PA Ren Faire of course. I was the guy in the kilt drinking beer.
Oh, wait- there were a couple of people like that. smile.gif
