Andy M. Stewart, Scottish singer, songwriter and musician, passed away recently.
While in Silly Wizard he wrote and recorded classic songs such "Queen of Argyll" and "Valley of Strathmore".
We have lost a true legend in Scottish traditional music.

See you there (in the general sense I suppose) - I'll be playing with Atlantic Wave on Friday at 4 on the Aer Lingus stage, then wandering about the grounds and hanging out at Celtic Roots a lot. I'll be there every day Thursday thru Sunday. Weather forecast is looking good....

Here's an Irish dance flash mob we played for Milwaukee Irish Fest a couple years ago. It's in a plaza in downtown Milwaukee.

Gigs. Two gigs back to back in downtown Milwaukee. Oi, pray for me.
First one, 3:00 to 6:00 in a big, crowded, loud, drunken, brawling tent at The Harp Irish Pub. Then, a more civilized one from 7:30 to 10:30 at County Clare Irish Inn & Pub. Also in a tent.
But also a nice quiet Irish dinner with my family, I think on Saturday this year, not sure. Much more mellow.

The great fiddler, Jerry Holland, passed away last night after a long struggle with cancer. A native of Boston, Jerry adopted Cape Breton, Nova Scotia as his home, and will always be remembered as one of its greatest fiddlers with a kind heart and gentle soul. |

Hmm, don't know how I ended up with a duplicate of this thread. Is there a way for me to delete one of them?
Anyway, I'm looking for only vocal versions of the song. |

I'm looking for recordings of the song "Will Ye No Come Back Again". So far I've only found one, by North Sea Gas.
Know of any artists/albums? |

The Wisconsin Highland Games draw nigh!
They begin with the Opening Ceremonies and ceilidh Friday night, Sept. 5th, and the Games themselves are on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6th and 7th.
We've got a great music lineup, with our headliner Seven Nations playing Sunday night starting at 6:25.
The other bands all play at least twice during the weekend. Atlantic Wave kicks it off Friday night from 7:30 to 9:00 pm in the Arena following the Opening Ceremonies (and play again Saturday at the Pub Tent).
Mother Grove, the Sandcarvers, Steel Bonnets, and 3 Pints Gone play both Saturday and Sunday at St. Andrew's Pub Tent!
Schedule and band bios here: http://www.wisconsinscottish.org/music_2008.php
Check out the Games Guide: http://www.wisconsinscottish.org/games_guide_2008.php for info on advance tickets ($5 -- a savings of $3), and all the great stuff to see and do at the Games! |

QUOTE (Robert Phoenix @ 27-Aug-2007, 09:28 PM) | If I come down there I'll make sure I stop at the MacEwan tent. |
Excellent -- If I'm not there, they'll say, "You just missed him!" -- I'm on the Games staff and I will be roving quite a bit. I also might be announcing the heavy athletics. But you can definitely catch me onstage with my band Atlantic Wave on Saturday at 1:30 and Sunday at 3:00 (I'm the tall one).

QUOTE (Lady Jeanetta @ 25-Aug-2007, 09:43 AM) | Quick question, for anyone who has been to the Highland Games -- is there a way of getting there that doesn't involve driving? I'll be coming from Milwaukee, but alas, I have no car. I hear the Milwaukee buses do connect with the Waukesha bus system eventually, but after that I'm hopeless. |
It looks like you would take Milwaukee County Transit System Route 10 down Wisconsin Avenue to the Brookfield Square Park and Ride. Then switch to the Waukesha Metro Transit Route 1 and go to the Downtown Transit Center, where you would need to then take WMT Route 9. It doesn't look like there's a stop at the Expo Center, but just down the street on Northview Road. No idea what the times are for these. It does say that Route 9 doesn't run on Sunday. Also there's a Coach USA route that runs from Brookfield Square to the Transit Center. QUOTE (Robert Phoenix @ 10-Aug-2007, 11:36 PM) | Fun and shopping is always a good thing. My wife has to work that weekend but I'm hoping to be able to sneak down. I've been trying to get down for the last three years with no luck. |
Please do! We have the best Games ever in store for you this year! They are indeed in Waukesha. Just south of I-94 at the Waukesha Expo Center. For complete details, check out the Games Guide at: http://www.wisconsinscottish.org/games_guide.phpWe have some great live music: Mother Grove, Sandcarvers, Atlantic Wave, and lots more, at St. Andrew's Pub Tent. Music runs all day long and well into the night, Sat. and Sun. Sept. 1st and 2nd. We'll also have live music at the Opening Ceremonies party Friday night (Aug. 31st). Stop by the Clan MacEwan tent and ask for Barry! |
