I thought that this is the place and the time to start this kind of thread.

With all that is going on in the world I was moved to do this. I was thinking that there should be a place to pray and ask for prayer. It may seem a little strange to type a prayer but I was looking at the value of the wide diversity of people that could see something and be touched by something they saw. Others just may find some solice in reading. Think of the potential.

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. "This, then, is how you should pray:

"'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.°'

The Gospel according to St Matthew, 6:5-13

A prayer I say several times a day to myself:

"God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the Courage to change the things I can;
and the Wisdom to know the difference."

I think "The Lord's Prayer" is always a good place to start when talking to God.

Every night I put my son to bed we do an informal prayer where we ask God to watch over us, help us be good people and then we pray a formal prayer. I've always been a fan of the Memorare so that's what we say.
"Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me."

It is biggrin.gif do you know that prayer is a model prayer, like an example of what we are to pray about, of course we have other things to add that are important also. It took me forever to get what that prayer was for.

Here is a prayer a friend sent me (it was part of one of those E-mail chain letters but it doesn't alter the fact that this is a good prayer). It also seems to follow the general outline of how Jesus taught us to pray with his prayer (The Lord's Prayer). So I foward it to you, my friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ, via this post.

To relax your mind and humble your heart to focus on Christ, allow God to be the only person on your mind while you read this prayer. If we can take the time to read long jokes, stories, etc., we should give the same respect to this prayer. Friends that pray together, stay together

Dear Lord,

I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those that will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those that don't believe. But I thank you that I believe.I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God.. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly.

This is my prayer.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.

We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.

We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism.

We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen"

...peace be with you

I've always liked this one. It's the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.

Make me a channel of Your Peace
Where there is hatred let me bring Your Love
Where there is injury Your pardon Lord
And where there's doubt true faith in You.

Make me a channel of Your Peace
Where there's despair in life let me bring Hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there's sadness ever Joy.

O' Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of Your Peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we're born to eternal Life.

I have always loved this prayer from when I was a Catholic and still pray it at night. I just love it! It says it all!

Act of Contrition!

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offendened Thee, and I detest all my sins not only because of Thy just punishments, but because they offend Thee oh God, who are ought all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen
