| Very Good Desert Rose.
I love seeing Native pieces. Those are indeed Beautiful.
I have a few in my Living Room by a Good Friend of mine.
You may know of his work, Hawk Pope.

Your work is beautiful, Desertrose!
In particular, I like the portrait of the elderly lady.
May I enquire as to her tribe?

| Hello everyone! Many thanks on your nice comments on my artwork. I apologize profusely for my images being so large. I am not that computer literate and had no idea they would be that big, nor any idea how to reduce them.
Aaediwen -- wish I knew what you were talking about!
Angel -- thank you so much for reducing my pics. If they need to be reduced anymore, please feel free to do so. Thanks also for allowing me to show my work. I hope to see more of your beautiful work as well as many other folks.
Castlehigh -- to answer your question about the older lady. I am impressed that you knew it was a woman. Most people think she is a man! But she is not very attractive,eh? She was the wife of Jack Red Cloud, who was the brother of Chief Red Cloud. They were of the Cheyenne tribe. All my work is of real people. Mostly from my photographs (I still own an old Canon SLR) or from the history books, as was this lady.
Many thanks again everyone!

OMG...Those are absolutely gorgeous desertrose!!!!!....my penciling is a mere inkling to what you do. Your detail work is absolutely phenomenal...I wish i had enough patience and less carpal tunnel to get down to details like that. So I suppose that I will stick to my comic genre.
I have worked in paints, and chalks before, but none of them grabbed me like pencil did. Working as tech support for a digital camera company kinda shot my urge to do photography
I drew this pic, and used photoshop to color it in. It turned out ok.

|This one was done in colored pencil. Feel free to reduce these. I don't know how to, duh!|

| Desertrose... I adore your work. Are you Native American?
|Posted by: CelticRose 13-Nov-2003, 10:10 PM|
Myriad -- thank you! No! Not a drop of Native American blood! My roots have been traced all the way to Italy, Scottish and English!! Where I got this profound interest in the Native American culture, I have no idea, but it has always fascinated me and I have a special love for the people!
Aaediwan -- love the poem and the photo! Really beautiful!
|Posted by: CelticRose 14-Nov-2003, 03:35 PM|
Hi Myriad -- thank you again. All my work is taken from real subjects. Real people who I have photographed through the years. I have attended Native American festivals and was even invited to travel with them for 3-1/2 years to sell my artwork and continue to photograph the Indian people that I met. A few of my works are taken from the history books, but most are people that I met and photographed.
so you are Irish and Cherokee? I used to live in Georgia and met a lot of lovely Cherokee people.

|Very very nice drawings DesertRose. You have a lot of talent to be able to create such breathe taking images. And you choose your subjects well. Thank you for sharing!|

| Dang! You are good!
Question......I'm new to the art world and don't know when my pencil drawings are finished...........how do you know?
|Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 28-Nov-2004, 02:33 PM|
That's the beauty of art, only the artist knows when their work is done. If you feel it is finished, it is.
|Posted by: JaneyMae 30-Nov-2004, 10:07 AM|
|Guess I'm just insecure about my work since I'm just starting. Maybe this weekend I'll take a pic and post so you all can help me. Believe me, I need all the help I can get. Thanks!!!!|
|Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 01-Dec-2004, 05:57 PM|
|I look forward to it. I keep meaning to add some of mine but I don't have a scanner and don't know of too many people who do have one. Maybe someday...|
|Posted by: JaneyMae 04-Dec-2004, 11:53 AM|
|I don't have a scanner either, just the camera. Now, if I can get the picture and the camera in the same place at the same time I can go about posting it. I'd love to see your work, Em!! J|

| Janeymae! I would love to see your work! My problem is is that I don't know when to quit. I had an art teacher tell me that once too! I finally just get to the place where I am sick of the piece and quit!
Someone asked earlier what tribe the elder Indian lady is and to answer the question, she is Navaho. I photographed her in New Mexico. Thanks everybody!

|Well thank you Phoenix! I take that as a compliment. Hope you enjoy her. She is a Cherokee Indian girl done in colored pencil.|
|Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 13-May-2005, 01:21 AM|
| Alright well this isn't quality. I had to use a friends' scanner, which didn't turn out very well. This is just a quick sketch I did awhile back. Any potential?
|Posted by: CelticRose 13-May-2005, 05:46 PM|
| Hey Em! That is a wonderful drawing! Everything looks balanced and in proportion. You have a light source, especially in her hair and face, which is good. I think you did very well and would like to see more of your work!
I know how scanners can be.
|Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 13-May-2005, 11:03 PM|
Thank you, it means a lot especially coming from you; being very talented.
Is there any scanners types that I should look into? Or avoid?
|Posted by: CelticRose 14-May-2005, 12:00 AM|
|Ooh! Scanners? Maybe you could ask or start a thread in the computer forum. I would like to know that myself. I think I have a pretty good one made by Acer, but scanners can't compare to digital photography.|
|Posted by: emerald-eyedwanderer 14-May-2005, 12:03 AM|
|Good idea Do you just take pictures of your work then?|

| I think your work is beautiful.
Art with colored pencils is far too often undervalued.
Your work proves the opposite.
