I have been told that this is a medival game that was played!

Are shire always brings this to 12th night and they say it was played!

Based on a quick Google search, it would appear that the game is old enough to have been common even before 1000 AD, but is not of decidedly European origin. I will say it is possible that it could have made it to Western Europe by medival times, But I can't say from just the quick search I've done, that it did or did not.
