I am called Phartripper, an archealogist from the netherlands of Middle Gastronia.
My quest for the truth about the beginings of the modern forms of gastrononic delites has no bounds.

I am looking for a few good companions to join me in my expedition and research.

I will meet you latter tonite at the cafe " Eatem Ifyu Gotum" in downtown Gastronia.

You will of course be expected to keep our activities secret .

Till we meet......!

Posted by: WizardofOwls 07-Feb-2005, 09:27 PM
Gilidorfus Astronitus enters the Eatem Ifyu Gotum in downtown Gastronia at the appointed time, and awaits the arrival of the world-famous archealogist, Phartripper.

Posted by: Shadows 07-Feb-2005, 10:30 PM
Phartripper enters the cafe and cautiously observes the scene.
Ever since his life was threatend by the Oxymorons he has been overly cautious!

Posted by: WizardofOwls 08-Feb-2005, 09:30 PM
Gilidorfus noticed that a man had entered the cafe at the appointed hour and wondered if this could be the man he had been waiting for.

Posted by: Shadows 08-Feb-2005, 09:35 PM
Spotting a table at the rear of the eatery with a single chair I make my way to it and slide behind the table with my back to the wall. The collection of grease on the walls from all the years of fatty cooking leaves an acrid sent in the air.

I survey the other people in the room... there is an over weight middle aged woman near the front downing a large plate of pasta and a farely pleasant looking gentleman to my right eyeing me carefully...

The waitress is busy arguing with the cook, neither of whom seem to be speaking the same language.

Posted by: oldraven 09-Feb-2005, 05:01 PM
Jesdone Droppid stepped out of the cab and let the stranger who offered to 'share' pay the fee. If he wants to share, he can share the entire bill, with himself.

Why this guy opted for the Eatem Ifyu Gotum over the sister pub, Drenkm Ifyu Gotum, Jes would never know. He entered the establishment and removed his boots. At least the floor is dry.

A quick scan of the room revealed a very plump lady, some bickering hosts, and two oddfullows on the right. Judging by the odor wafting from that end of the room, he guessed that this was Phartripper. Jesdone took a deep breath, and made his moove.

Posted by: Shadows 09-Feb-2005, 09:39 PM
I caught site of a barefooted man making his way towards my table!
I picked up the dirty steak knife that had been left there by the previous user of this table and held it out in front of me...

Was this one of the Oxymorons sent by General Confusion to stop me?

Posted by: WizardofOwls 09-Feb-2005, 09:51 PM
"Mr. Phartripper, I presume?" said Gilidorfus. He knew it had to be judging from the rancid odor coming from the man's general direction. "I am Gilidorfus Astronitus, and I am pleased to make your acquaintance!" Eyeing the knife in Mr. Phartripper's hand and the bare-footed man who had just approached the table, Gilidorfus sat back in his chair wondering if he hh spoken too soon.

Posted by: Shadows 09-Feb-2005, 10:02 PM
I now had two people approaching me, did I dare trust either?
The one gentleman had been here when I arrived and seemed quite pleasant, addressed me by name and sat back in his chair when I welded the crusty steak knife in front of me as if to contemplate his approach; the other just kept coming forward...

Posted by: oldraven 10-Feb-2005, 08:39 AM
Jesdone looked at the knife, and shortly after deciding not to order the steak, he spoke. Pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Phartripper. I supose I could shove a gun in your face, if that would make you feel more comfortable. The man's eyes were twitching a bit, and regularly checked the door. Jes looked back over his shoulder and made his last offer. He wasn't going to miss out on his book club just to have a dirty knife pointed at him.

Are you forgeting that I'm here on your request? My name is Jesdone Droppid. Again, nothing. He instead turned his attention toward the man in his company. Gilidorfus, was it? He extended his hand and smiled wryly.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 10-Feb-2005, 12:25 PM
Gilidorfus was unsure what to do here. Phartripper had obviously considered this man to be a threat, enough of a threat to brandish a knife at his approach. But now the dodd, bare-footed man was speaking to them in rather pleasant tones! What to do? He decided to wait and see what Phartripper's reaction would be. Caution is the better part of valour he'd always heard...

Posted by: Shadows 10-Feb-2005, 09:34 PM
Gentlemen I am sorry for my actions here, you must understand that my life has been in danger for some time now...

I appologise, please be seated, let us talk.

And please stop calling me fart ripper, my name is pronounce "far tripper"...

Phartripper thinks to himself this name thing has been going on since grade school...

Posted by: WizardofOwls 10-Feb-2005, 10:37 PM
"Oh! My apologies!" said Gilidorfus. "So who is threatening your life?" he said, and looked nervously around the room, he eyes lingering suspiciously over the plump woman at the other table.

Posted by: Shadows 10-Feb-2005, 10:47 PM
Phartripper begins to explain.....

Ever since I have been close to discovering the secrets and the where abouts of the Holey City the Oxymorons under the leadership of General Confusion have been after my life....

You see I must use caution....

Phartripper now turns his attention towards the pasta eater, something is wrong...

Posted by: oldraven 11-Feb-2005, 08:56 AM
Well, you seem to have been digging in someone elses sandbox, Phar-tripper. General Confusion, you say? He fiddled with his soul patch and considered this introduction. Oxymorons are after you? Trying to kill you? Strange, but I was always under the assumption that they were a peaceful faction. Jes dared not tell him of his own brothers involvement with the organization.

He noticed the other two were eyeing the plump lass with pasta marinara sauce on her chin, and pure evil in her eyes. ((ooc- sorry, I couldn't help myself there wink.gif ))

Posted by: WizardofOwls 11-Feb-2005, 09:47 AM
"Hmmm..." said Gilidorfus, "I heard that General Confusion and the Oxymorons were quite busy terrorizing the general populace in Timbuktu. So what in the world would they be doing in a nowhere place like Gastronia? And tartgeting archaeologists? I know that we are pretty close to the NauSea, but even pirates wouldn't target an archaeologist... unless of course he had something they wanted. I assume that is why you've called us here?"

Posted by: Shadows 11-Feb-2005, 10:09 AM
Phartripper thinks it not wise at this moment to share his exact knowledge and intent....

Gentlemen in time I will tell you why you are here, but right now we might have more pressing issues at hand...

Again Phartripper turns his attention to the fat lady and studies her carefully.

Posted by: Shadows 11-Feb-2005, 10:03 PM
As Phartripper watches the over weight woman, she graps her throat and starts turning blue....

Gentlemen we must leave now, hurry, follow me.......

Posted by: oldraven 12-Feb-2005, 02:01 PM
Jesdone was in shock. We should help her. ....... shouldn't we?

Phartripper grabbed the sleeve of his jacket and pulled him to his feet. As they ran for the back door, Jes turned and ran back in the direction of the blue lady. But after some curses and calls from the other two men, they saw he was only fetching his boots. When he reached the back door, he said, I wouldn't want to get my feet wet. I might catch a cold.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 12-Feb-2005, 08:25 PM
Gilidorfus was in shock! Phartripper wanted to just abandon the pasta lady who was obviously choking! And he was equally suprised to see the other man run back in. He was getting to ready to ask Phartripper what was really going on when the other man came back out with his boots. "I'll go along for now," he thought as he followed the archaeologist's lead, "but he'd better have a good explanation for all of this! And soon!"

Posted by: Shadows 12-Feb-2005, 09:48 PM
Phartripper led them all down the alley behind the row of eateries and taverns. Once a safe distance away he paused long enough to say:

Gentlemen what you just observed we could not help, the poor woman had just been posioned.... it was meant for me!

You see I made reservations in my name and paid that woman to say she was Phartripper....

The sound of running feet was coming from the direction they had just left....

RUN gentlemen if you value your lives....

Posted by: Shadows 13-Feb-2005, 09:27 AM
Phartripper and company disapeared down the dark alley as the cook and waitress from the eatery tried to catch up to them....

Posted by: Swanny 13-Feb-2005, 11:33 AM
Lifting his leg to mark his territory, Damd Dog stared and snarled as the group of one, two... um, one, two... um, darn it, I wish dogs could count beyond two, as a group of people dashed past.

Humans must want to play he thought.

Then he spied a second group. At the lead was a human he know all too well, dressed in white with a greasy, stained apron, wielding a cleaver and wearing those dreaded boots that were all too often aimed at Damd Dog's ribs.

Yipe

Damd Dog tried to hide behind the trash bins that lined the alley, but misjudged the space. After all, he WAS just a growing puppy and his now 90 lb frame wouldn't fit into the little puppy hiding spaces he'd used only weeks before. The cans tumbled, rolling into the path of the pursuers.

The hated human with the hurtful boots tripped over the first of the cans, and the waitress fell on top of him.

Neat trick Damd Dog thought as, tail wagging wildly, he dashed off to chase the first group of playful humans.

Posted by: oldraven 14-Feb-2005, 08:55 AM
Damn! The dog barked as he said it. Now they've set the dogs on us.

The trio ran for a good five minutes, which is quite a feat, even with boots on, when fatigue started to force reason to the surface. Phartripper, we've been running now, for ten minutes. Although this would have been great fun in my youth, right now, I only want to know where, if there is a where, are we going? The dog had caught up a while back, but simply ran beside the three. Or ran accross the three, nearly tripping them, as dogs do when they're playful. Every time someone yelled at the damned dog, he seemed to get even more rambunctious.

Posted by: Shadows 14-Feb-2005, 06:31 PM
Don't ask now just follow me , I have consigned a ship to take us across the Nausea...

where did that damned dog come from?

Phartripper laughed as he watch the anticts of the hairy beast....

Posted by: Swanny 14-Feb-2005, 07:47 PM
Damd Dog liked the smell of these people. They smelled like good food and faintly of good living. Of course Damd Dog didn't know much about good living, but they seemed like GOOOOD people.

They even know my name, and they run good, too. At least, they run good for humans.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 15-Feb-2005, 10:02 PM
Gilidorfus found himself liking the dog, though he wondered why the others cursed him so... but he seemed to like it. Strange!

Posted by: oldraven 16-Feb-2005, 08:45 AM
A ship? Now we're talking. The thought of being out on the seas again gave Jes a newfound resolve, and so he found his second wind. Which he guessed he had lost somewhere around his early teens.

The Nausea had claimed the contents of many lesser men's bellies, but Jes had braved it more times than he could remember.

yar, slipped out of his mouth, and he hoped no one had heard him, or just took it as a random noise to go with his panting.

The Dog was starting to grow on him. No, not literally. It's goofy ways, and large clumsy paws showed that it was just a pup yet. Jesdone simply could not resist a puppy. Better than a parot, if he did say so himself.

Posted by: Shadows 16-Feb-2005, 07:33 PM
Out of all the noise and clatter of the chase, the garbage cans , the barking dog, the running feet and the curses of their pursuers, Phartripper heard a sound that made him cringe....

No it could not be, was one of these chosen by him a spy, an achillies heel, an... an... follower of the Oxymoron's....

Phartripper decided to lead this group a little out of the way to be sure!

Posted by: Shadows 16-Feb-2005, 09:17 PM
We are going to cross this small stream friends....

Phartripper knew that the Oxymorons hated to have wet feet... wait a minute, this one fellow, Jesdone, seemed to have an adversion to wet feet...

Could it be....

Run friends, we need to cross here!

The pup seemed to like the change of direction and splashed and shook water over all of us.

Posted by: Swanny 16-Feb-2005, 10:31 PM
Damd Dog LOVED the cool water. He took a flying leap into the cool wet stuff but tripped over something, maybe one of his own huge paws. He rolled completely over, soaking his fur. He looked back over his shoulders sheepishly, hoping the humans hadn't noticed, but of course they had.

He hung his head. Humans don't like wet dogs. At least no one tried to kick him or throw rocks at him though.

The humans were splashing enough that Damd Dog needn't have worried. At least, not until he shook off his coat.

Posted by: oldraven 16-Feb-2005, 10:42 PM
Jesdone didn't much like this new change in course. He had just gotten his boots dry from the last time. Spending so much time at sea gives the damp air plenty of opportunity to soak a man's boots. And oh he did hate to get his feet wet. Luckily, he was prepared for just such an occasion. smile.gif

Jesdone reached into his trenchcoat and produced two well worn garbage bags, and promptly slipped them over his feet. Plunging into the stream, and holding the bags with his hands, he smiled at just how durable a good glad bag could be. smile.gif

When he got to the other side, Phartripper was giving him the hairy eyeball. Never leave home without 'em. The man grunted and gave him the other hairy eyeball. Now, where be the ship? unsure.gif

Posted by: Swanny 17-Feb-2005, 07:31 AM
Damd Dog forgot about his embarassment , and cocked his head, tongue lolling, as he watched the human with the huge, billowing plastic things over its paws. He drew closer, sniffing. Then bounded off again.

Posted by: Shadows 17-Feb-2005, 09:05 PM
Phartripper thought... I need to be deligent and descret in dealing with this Jesdone..., he shows some traits that I do not like, my first impression of him may have been correct...

Gentlemen, we must proceed to the docks and a tavern there by the name of "The Hello Sailor", it is here we will meet up with those who will help us.

Again Phartripper eyes Jesdone....

Damd Dog jumps up and slurps Phartrippers face and causes him to fall backward into the mud.....

Posted by: oldraven 22-Feb-2005, 09:17 AM
As much as it pleases me to hear we're heading to a tavern, are you sure we're the right sort of patron for 'The Hello Sailor'? I mean, I like the ladies as much as the ne.... Oh, I forgot. This is Middle Gastronia. Sorry, not the 'Hello Sailor' I was thinking about. Jesdone pulled a plastic cylinder from one of his pockets and pointed it to their soiled leader. Nappy? wink.gif

Posted by: Swanny 22-Feb-2005, 10:08 AM
Damd dog bounded up and sniffed at the strange plastic roll. It smelled faintly of chemicals and flowers. He sneezed twice, surprising himself.

Let's go. I want to play some more.

Posted by: Shadows 23-Feb-2005, 09:41 PM
Phartripper wiped the mud from his face on his sleeve and thought...

It is that kinda place, but I am not going to tell this pantywaist it is...

That is where the captian and his crew will meet us, let us be on our way!

Phartripper leads the group back towards the dark end of the docks.

Posted by: Shadows 23-Feb-2005, 09:48 PM
Phartripper pats Damd Dog on the head and slips him a piece of jerky from his pocket...

I hope no one saw that ... he thinks as he chortles to himself.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 24-Feb-2005, 12:16 AM
Gilidorfus had remained silent, observing the two interesting gentlemen and dog that he had found himself travelling with. He liked them, even though they seemed determined to bicker. At least the dog didn't argue! He wasn't looking forward to the trip on the Nau Sea, as sailing always tended to make him nauseous, but it was for a good cause!

"Lead on, my friend!" he said.

Posted by: Swanny 24-Feb-2005, 11:44 PM
FOOD. WHOOHOOO!!!!! This is a REALLY GOOD human. I think my tail might wag right off of my butt.

Posted by: Shadows 25-Feb-2005, 08:47 AM
As Phartripper leads the ragtag group towards the Tavern the masts of the tall ships they pass in the darkness spike skyward lending an eerie air to the already strange surroundings.

Just a little further my friends...

Damd Dog has not left Phartrippers side and almost trips him with his wagging tail.

Posted by: Shadows 26-Feb-2005, 06:42 PM
The group stops before a dilapidated building that smells of alcohol and fish.

Phartripper pushes open the door and becons to his companions to enter.

Posted by: Swanny 26-Feb-2005, 10:37 PM
Damd Dog bounded through the door with the GOOOD food man, then froze, hackles raised and lip lifted in a snarl and a low growl issuing from his throat. He knew the bad smell far to well, and the human source of that bad smell was seated dead ahead.

Posted by: Shadows 27-Feb-2005, 06:35 PM
Phartripper quickly looks around the room in reaction to Damd Dog.

OK what does this mutt sence?

A familiar figure sits dead ahead of them.

Phartripper disapears into a dark corner....

Posted by: WizardofOwls 27-Feb-2005, 07:39 PM
Gilidorfus noticed the dog's odd reaction when he enetered the room. That, and the way that Phartripper sort of crept aorund to the corner of the tavern, were reason enough for Gili to go on guard, watching the room's inhabitants very closely. "Looks like were in for more trouble," he thought.

Posted by: oldraven 28-Feb-2005, 09:01 AM
Jesdone was feeling more and more at ease as he walked beneath the watching eyes of the towering masts. The dock creaked, and he could hear the water lapping beneath. Seagulls cried, along with the fish-mongers; moreso at the fish-mongers. The similarities between the two creatures was staggering, with the most prominent characteristic being greed. But that is the port, as it stands, and has stood for as long as men have taken to sea.

When they entered the tavern, Jesdone's three companions took such immediate action, he had no choice but to duck and hide, just as they did, though he didn't know why. The dog seemed to have an aversion to something, and Captain Paranoid all but took flight.

Looking around, it turns out this was, indeed, the 'Hello Sailor' he was thinking about earlier. Well, at least there was good ale here, as he remembered. It looked as though Gilidorfus was about to snap his fingers at the waitress, but Jes restrained his arm. You don't want to try that here. This isn't your average downtown bar. Dawson City Kitty would just as soon bite those fingers off as quick as you can snap. I don't mean to make you fullows paranoid, but we'd best pay as much respect to these folk as we can afford. Jesdone didn't notice it right off, but by the time he finished his speach, his maritime accent had been pushing through. He'd best keep an eye on that.

Posted by: Swanny 28-Feb-2005, 02:20 PM
The bad smelling human jumped to it's feet, and Damd Dawgs growl intensified to a level worthy of a much older beast.

The dog didn't even turn his head when someone called his name, hollering Get that damned dog out of here.

Posted by: Shadows 28-Feb-2005, 03:02 PM
Phartripper came out of his corner with a cane in hand and said...

Has anyone seen that Damd Dog of mine? I can't find my way around without him! The scoundrel loves leaving me in the dark!

Phartripper lets out a not so convincing laugh, but then again the brighest fires don't burn in the clientle of this establishments minds....

Posted by: Shadows 28-Feb-2005, 03:07 PM
I can see this animal is going to be a benefit Phartripper thinks to himself....

Posted by: Swanny 28-Feb-2005, 07:55 PM
Damd Dawg was torn. The good food human was coming around with a stick in his hand, moving right toward the bad smell human. He didn't know which to fear more. Sticks are BAD for Damd Dawg's ribs, but the bad smell human is bad all around. When the good food human reached down for his collar it was more than Damd Dawg the fear turned to terror. He HAD to bite someone, had to get away, had to DO something, and since Bad Smell human was closer than good food human, he lunged at the bad smell human, teeth bared, going for the neck.

Posted by: Haldur 02-Mar-2005, 11:20 PM
Greeting the sorriest three warts he'd ever laid eyes on, Blarney Crabshack, the dirtiest pirate scum to sail the seven seas pushed the Damd Dawg down to the floor, snarled, and wiped his greasy nose.

Time I teach this dog a lesson! he murmured, flashing a hateful glare to the three scaliwags before him.

He drew a slender, rusted knife from underneath his long cloak and pinned Damd Dawg to the floor of the tavern.

Posted by: Shadows 02-Mar-2005, 11:30 PM
Phartripper reacted by smashing his new found cane soundly across Crabshack's scull only to find the man's ( if you call em that ) head resounded with the vibration of a metal plate!

leave me Damd Dog alone scoundrel

Posted by: Shadows 02-Mar-2005, 11:45 PM
Phartripper removed the dirty blade from the dogs loose skin and soundly placed it into the scums leg, again he was shocked to here the dull thump of a blade going into wood!

Posted by: Shadows 02-Mar-2005, 11:46 PM
this is not going well thought Phartripper.

Posted by: Swanny 02-Mar-2005, 11:56 PM
Damd Dawg cried out only once in pain and rage. As the knife was removed from the skin above his shoulders he lept again, blood spattering the tables, floor and humans. This time he had the satisfaction of feeling the bad smell man's soft fleshy throat between his teeth.

Posted by: Shadows 03-Mar-2005, 12:07 AM
Phartripper grabbed the sorry excuse of a collar that was on Damd Dog and pulled him back... this may be the contact we need, I can't let this Damd Dog kill him...

Phartripper again let his cane fall on the head of the dogs victim amid curses and questions about the man's heritage!

He then managed to pry the dogs teeth from the man's throat.

Posted by: Shadows 03-Mar-2005, 12:13 AM
I wonder why this animal had such a reaction to this man? Maybe I should be cautious ...

Posted by: Swanny 03-Mar-2005, 05:04 AM
(what collar?)

Damd Dawg squirmed and wriggled and tried to roll, even tried snapping at the restraining hand, all to no avail. Malnutrition combined with blood loss left the stray with too little strength to mount a full resistence to this insult. He tried shaking the hot wet blood from his coat, spraying the good food human with gore and then lost all control of his bladder, spraying the bad smelling human with urine.

at least he smells better

Damd Dawg then slipped quietly into unconciousness.

Posted by: oldraven 03-Mar-2005, 09:01 AM
What in the name o' time are you doing? Trying to kill each other. Phartripper, if you don't kick that damn dog out on its arse, I'll do it for you. Damn rabid flea bag is liable to kill any of us. His leg started acting up again, at the sight of the dog's attack, so Jesdone found himself with a tettering limp as he moved to the table.

Blarney Crabshack, it has been, pardon the saying, a dogs age. Let's see that. As much as I'd like to have been the one to draw your blood, we've got to make sure you didn't catch something foul from that furball.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 03-Mar-2005, 09:43 PM
Gilidorfus couldn't believe his ears. Jesdone was CONDONING what this man had just done to the dog? And speaking to this obviously shady character as though he were an old friend? Perhaps he needed to analyze the situation a little more closely to decide exactly where his own allegiances lay.

And he would be watching this man who called himself Jesdone MUCH more closely...

Posted by: Shadows 03-Mar-2005, 09:55 PM
Phartripper glanced at Gilidorfus and could see he had the same reaction to what was unfolding in front of them....

I knew I should not trust this Jesdone from the begining!

Phartripper looked quickly around the room and noticed a large burly man sitting at the bar....

Ahh the captain I made arrangments with.....

Posted by: oldraven 04-Mar-2005, 08:34 AM
Bah, you'll be fine. Pitty. I think a nice case of the rabies would have suited you just fine. Don't think I've forgotten your little double cross, you swine. Jim was never quite right after that. And I haven't seen him since the Northeast Swallow went missing, which you no doubt had a hand in.

Jesdone turned about and saw how miffed his company seemed to be at him. Right, the dog just outright and went for the man's throat, completely unprovoked. That's a liability. I don't care what kind of scum the fullow is. There was now distrust. Well, it's not like there was much to start with. Jes was regarded suspect the moment he stepped into the Etum ifu Gotum. Maybe it was the trench coat. Maybe it was the accent. Maybe these two didn't even trust their own mothers.

Jesdone gave one final hateful glare to Crabshack, and followed Phartripper over to the bar.

Posted by: Shadows 04-Mar-2005, 09:21 AM
Phartripper turns and picks up Damd Dog and glares at the two who are making light of this poor creatures delema....

You bastards

...then heads towards the man at the bar.

Posted by: oldraven 04-Mar-2005, 10:36 AM
Guilt starts to eat away at Jesdone, as he hears the quiet, quivering whine of the puppy. He reaches into one of his inside pockets and placed a medium sized crayon box on the table. He pulled out a spool of thread, a needle, and some gauze. I can sew, but one of you will have to do the honors. Sewing fabric is one thing. Flesh is another. He was turning green just thinking about it. Here, use some of this before you dress it. He handed Gilidorfus a half used tube of antiseptic salve.

I need a drink. He kept checking over his shoulder at Crabshack, making sure any move the man made was toward the door.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 04-Mar-2005, 07:20 PM
Gilidorfus accepted the tube of salve from Jesdone with a glare. Taking the dog from Phartripper's hands he eased him down onto a table. He squeezed a little of the cream into his hand. He knew that injured animals could become easily upset by sudden movements and unwanted physical contact, so he slowly offerd his hand to the dog for a sniff, as he quetly spoke to the dog. "Easy boy," he said, trying to comfort the dog, and gave him a scratch between the ears. When he was sure the animal wasn't going to take off his hand, he began to gently smooth the cream around and into the wound. He continued to talk quietly to the dog. "At least he had the descency to offer to help fix you up. But not to worry, little fella, he may know how to sew, but I am a surgeon, so I'll take care of you without his help. Seems to me he's done enough already." And Gilidorfus went about his work quietly, glaring occasionally at both the man who had caused the wound in the first place, as well as the one who was at the bar, guzzling a beer as though nothing had happened.

Posted by: Haldur 04-Mar-2005, 08:36 PM
From across the room, the wretched Blarney Crabshack stood slowly and cleared his throat. A raspy, horrible sound filled the tavern and brought the boisterous laughter and talking to a dim silence. Just thought I'd let you gentlemen know that the Oxymorons are in town! The three blokes before him were frozen like stone; the poor Damd Dawg was weak, but anger was written on his face.

You fellas look like a sorry bunch! Look like the dog pissed on ya or somethin'... He laughed quietly under his breath, looked down, sniffed. He flashed a deadly stare at the young man with the soul patch, calmly sipping a draught. It was you, wasn't it? Pissed all over me? He approached Jesdone and pierced his eyes with his cold and deadly stare.

His furious expression relaxed into a snide smile. I know you...don't I?

Posted by: Shadows 04-Mar-2005, 10:44 PM
Phartripper watched as Gilidorfus went about helping the poor beast; he then turned his attention towards the burly fellow at the bar...

Captain Shlotglas, I know I am early but some unforseen things have happened, and we must part these shores sooner the we agreed...

In the back of his mind the words of the scoundrel that stabbed the dog played over and over...

A couple of blocks away, the Oxymorons had gathered to be adressed by their leader, General Direction.

Friends, Oxymorons, and countrymen, cried Gen. Direction, for too long now, these humans have made fun of our species! We, except for a few anal probes, have been generous toward Earth. But this time, taunting us by beaming "Men in Black II" to our home planet, Oxymoronica, was too much! We must eradicate them all!

I pay this man good money in advance to have a ship ready on a moments notice and he just sits here and drinks!

Ahum... Captain, how soon can we leave?

Captain I ask you again... how soon can we leave?

Slotglas looks at the amber liquid sitting at the bottom of his glass, and swirls it round three times, then tips back the remaining mouthful. Aaah. He makes a slow turn toward Phartripper, and answers the agetated man. We leave now. Decide who you're taking with you. And make it quick. My Anchor waits for no man.

(cap'n)

It's a skeleton crew, that. Hesitate all you want, but you really can't do with any fewer than you've got. Well, men, we'd best be off, or we may never leave the dock. Slotglas watched Crabshack move in and confront Jesdone. He had a point, this Jesdone was a familiar lad. But there's no time for side tracks.

Blarney! You can deal with all that later. Right now I need a crew. I'm running on half as it is. The pay's nothing to write home about, but pay is pay. And I've seen you take worse jobs. Well?

Posted by: Shadows 07-Mar-2005, 03:27 PM
Phartripper looks at Crabshack and turns to the Captain...

this one does not go! If I have to work the riggings I can, but this man is not going!

(General Direction)

Aboard his command ship that is really a Winnebago that has been modified for space travel, General Direction is strategizing with his officers.

All right, men. Admiral Guhtripper and Colonel Hockaloogie will be in the air coordinating the aerial and ground assaults. Col. Hockaloogie?

(Col. Hockaloogie)

OK. First, we will send our advance sniper teams into these three buildings surrounding the harbor. They will be providing cover for the armored units, which will be providing cover for the soldiers. Admiral?

(Adm. Guhtripper)

Thank you, Colonel. Our aerial units will be providing cover for Col. Hockaloogie's sniper teams. Additionally, we will be sending our special forces unit in to infiltrate their ranks. Seeing as how much we resemble humans, this shouldn't be much of a problem.

(Gen. Direction)

Thank you gentlemen. The operation will begin at sunrise.

Damnd Dawg starts to recover, licking the kind, healing hands working at his lacerated hide, then lifting his lip at the smell of Crabshack. He's too weak to do anything more than snarl at the man, a low attempt at a growl eminating from his throat even as his trail thumps the table on which he lies.

(how's that for a mixed message, eh?)

Posted by: oldraven 09-Mar-2005, 08:42 AM
Oh, there's no doubt of that. You'll work the riggins anyway. But you've only got two hands, Phartripper. I was expecting a half score, but you bring me a pair. I'm afraid there's no two ways about it. She won't get far with half a crew, so it won't leave dock without the necesary numbers. And if we're going to be short handed, those hands had better know the lines. Crabshack comes, or the ship stays at port.

Slotglas looked about, but aparently didn't see what he wanted. So he got to his feet and said, We'd best be off then. As he headed for the door, he stopped and looked Jesdone in the eye. You.

Me?

Yes you. Pay the man, and be quick about it. We break dock in an hour.

Posted by: Shadows 09-Mar-2005, 01:40 PM
Phartripper started to object then thought better of it....

maybe at our first port we can find some better suited men for this journey!

Alright Slotglas, but if this man causes any trouble before our next port of call I will insist he be thrown overboard, does that sound fair!

Phartripper reaches into his pockets and hands Jesdone some cash and winks...Pay the man like he said!

Posted by: oldraven 09-Mar-2005, 02:22 PM
Jesdone wondered who, exactly, it was that Phartripper would throw overboard. The wink all but confirmed the double meaning. He walked to the bar, and handed the keep his fare. Thanks Willie. He slipped another coin from his own pockets, into the man's hand, and said, That's fer the mess. I'll try to be less of a bother next time..

When he turned to leave, he noticed Crabshack looking at him. He held back to confront Jesdone, no doubt. Yes, you know me. I sugest you leave it at that, for now. By the time you figure out who I am, you'll wish you hadn't. Because I sure as hell remember you. When his back was turned, Jes clinched his teeth and walked on. As much as he tried to escape it, the past was ever present.

Phartripper stops at the table being used as a hospital for the wounded dog....

... and this fine creature comes along as my guest! There will be no questions about that Captain!

Posted by: Shadows 09-Mar-2005, 04:11 PM
Phartripper reaches into his haversack and pulls out a small glass bottle with a red powder in it and hands it to Gili...

when you are finished with your sewing cover the wound with this, he will be better real soon

Posted by: WizardofOwls 09-Mar-2005, 08:37 PM
When the dog came around and licked his hand, Gili gave him a friendly scratch between the ears. When he growled, Gili whispered "'Don't worry buddy, you'll get your chance, I promise."

Gili took the flask of red powder and thanked Phartripper. When he was done he put the powder on the wound. "Don't worry, big guy, I trust him. I think," he added with a grin. As Gili looked at the large dog he copuldn't beleive that he had been able to lift him. "Must have been the adreniline," he thought.

"All done!" he announced to anyone who might be listening.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 15-Mar-2005, 07:59 AM
Gili gathered his things and headed for the door. The room had suddenly grown very quiet.

Posted by: Swanny 16-Mar-2005, 03:13 PM
Damd Dawg tried to get up, jump from the table and follow Gili but things just weren't working like they should. Each of his paws slid out from under him until he found himself splayed out on the floor spread-eagle. His dangling tongue landing in a tankard of ale.

wet, cool, not water but GOOOD to taste

He tried lapping at the liquid, but his tongue wouldn't work quite right. He ended up just splashing it about. He tried wagging his tail. At least that worked well enough to brush some of the dust and grime away.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 16-Mar-2005, 08:47 PM
Gili looked back to see that the dog had fallen trying to get off of the table.

"Hey fella!" he said, "Still having a hard time, ey? I'm not sure where everyone else has gone, but they can't have gotten far. Wish I could help you, but I'm not sure I could pick you up again. I'll just wait with you. There bound to come back. In the mean time.... Bartender! Could you bring me a beer? And an ale in a bowl for my buddy here!"

Posted by: Shadows 21-Mar-2005, 01:40 PM
Phartripper looks around the room...

If we are to go then let us follow the captain to his ship...

if , Captain, you insist on that scum joining us have him carry the dog! I insist the dog joins us!

Damned Dawg slurped his ale with gusto, belched loudly and fell sound asleep, his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth.

A slender looking boy came through the door of the "Hello Sailor". His black eyes glanced round the smoky room and rested on the grubby looking Pirate. "Ye ' be wanting more men, i hear?"

Posted by: oldraven 30-Mar-2005, 08:53 AM
((Slotglas))

The Captain looked the boy up and down, and raised his right eyebrow. You're a little on the young side for sea farin', aren't ye? The boy looked a bit miffed at the judgment. Have you been on the lines before? I know half the ships in the sea. Name a few and I could likely tell you its current cargo.

Posted by: Faileas 30-Mar-2005, 10:34 AM
"I am older than my looks, cap' n." the boy said angrily, "And I dare say, that even you had to start at some point. I am a good worker, can carry heavy bags and my hands are quick ...." He grinned now openly at Slotglas. "I think you will find my talents useful."

Posted by: oldraven 30-Mar-2005, 10:44 AM
((Slotglas))

Calm down, boy. Alright. There are tight spaces that require small hands and small stature on board my ship. At this point, I'll take what I can get. He smacked the boy on the shoulder and said, Welcome to the crew. We're gathering provisions, and as many hands as we can for the next couple of hours. Stay close by the docks and we'll call you when we go.

As he left the room, he stopped and asked, What's your name, so I know who I'm calling?

Posted by: Faileas 30-Mar-2005, 01:36 PM
"The only name that i ever knew was Pick ...., Pick Pocket" , he said broadly grinning after he had regained balance from the capt'n's slap on his shoulders. "You won't regret it, sir."

Posted by: Shadows 30-Mar-2005, 09:35 PM
Phartripper looked at Slotglas and slowly shook his head side to side...

this captain told me he had a good crew and here he is taking urchin off the street!

Captain do what you must to get a crew, but let us make it quick!

Blarney orders a tall ale, guzzles it down, and looks around at the zany blokes surrounding him. He starts to laugh, quietly at first, and then building into an all-out guffaw.

My, my, ye scalliwags! You aren't getting far without someone who knows the way.

The group looked at Blarney as if shellfish were squirming out of his scabby, sea-worn ears.

I hate to break this to you, but that man is me! And there ain't a thing ye can do about it, neither...that sea is a monster, and you all and I know that a monster has to be tamed...not her. Not the sea.

He ordered another draught of ale, slurped it down in a flash, and wiped his chin with his right hand. The group saw him slip his left hand out of his coat pocket, which was not a hand at all, but a bright, iron hook.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 02-Apr-2005, 10:46 AM
From his spot on the floor by the unoncscious dog, Gili continued to listen to the goings on. He was silent as the newcomer "came in and introduced himself. All he knew was that he was beginning to get impatient. Even though he got seascik easily, he was eager to be doing something.

"Well, I for one am ready to get going. When do we leave?"

Posted by: Shadows 02-Apr-2005, 10:54 AM
Phartripper looked at the gleaming hook and thought to himself:

Damn I bet that took some getting used to, must have some real scares on his backsides...

Captain, we must get moving, which way to the ship?

Posted by: Faileas 02-Apr-2005, 02:54 PM
Pick picked up ( wink.gif ) on the general tone of moaning and impatience. "Aye, i dinnae need ye lot for hangin' round any longer than i have to, cap'n. Take that one over there who claimes to know the seven sees and be done wi' it. But best we take sail, sir. Else ... The tide's no gonna wait for us."

Posted by: oldraven 07-Apr-2005, 10:03 AM
The captain had managed to get a few more hands just outside the tavern. Where else would you find a shipless crew?

Well, we'd best be off, before the tide leaves us behind, as the pocket says. And might I say, very few have tried to pick my goods, and none of them came away with all their fingers. With a dramatic sweep of his gigantic arm, he led his crew out the door, and down to the dock.

Three ships over, the Crimson Swallow waits on anchor. It rocked with the wind, as though it were a prisoner of the waterfront; ropes and timbers creaking in defiance. He stopped and waved the crew up the catwalk, where two men stood shipside with arms drawn. This is Bogrit and Alwan. Bogrit is my first mate, and Alwan is the ship surgeon and cook. Don't cross this fullow, as he seems to enjoy making work for himself. He turned to Bogrit. Are we set?

Aye Cap'n.

Then haul anchor and get us out of this hole.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 07-Apr-2005, 07:55 PM
"Well, I'm not going anywhere until we figure out how to get my big buddy here, "points to the VERY large unconscious, drunk dog on the floor, "on board with us!"

Posted by: Shadows 07-Apr-2005, 08:33 PM
Phartripper reaches into his pockets again and waves a piece of jerky under the dogs nose...

if we don't get this mutt moving we 3 will miss the boat!

Damd Dawg awakened to the smell of GOOOOOD food. He licked at the offering, then gently took it from the good food man's fingers before struggling to his feet. He belched, farted, and followed the good food man out the door as the bar patrons yelled profanities against the prodigious stench left in his wake.

Posted by: oldraven 08-Apr-2005, 07:39 AM
Hold that order, Bogrit. Seems we're missing our primary cargo. Where is that Phartripper?

Posted by: Shadows 08-Apr-2005, 08:43 AM
Phartripper heads down the dock in the direction he had seen the Captain going, glances back over his sholder to see if Gili and Damd Dog are following him....

...this is going to be a very strange adventure... he thinks to himself.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 08-Apr-2005, 08:57 AM
Once the dog is up and about, Gili heads out the door with the others, pulling his shirt over his nose and mouth and filter out the rancid odor emanating from the dog. "hmmm wonder if he needs to be wormed?" he thought...

Posted by: Swanny 08-Apr-2005, 08:57 AM
Damd Dawgs nail clicked as he trotted up the gang plank. On deck he raised his nose to test the wind, then trotted up the port ladder to the quarter deck and to the binnacle before the great wheel.

Damd Dawg's Nefoundland Dog instincts took over. He dropped to the deck well out of anybody's way, and carefully tucked his paws and tail beneath the mass of his body so make take up as small a space as possible and with nose, ears and eyes followed the rush of activity as humans prepared to cast off.

He even managed to ignore the temptation to leap down and attack the bad smell human, though he trembled with joy at the thought of doing so.

This way, sir. Sir? At least he didn't call him Officer. And since when was this guy a sir to him? And it's JESdone, with an 's'. Thanks for noticing.

He led Phartripper down below hatch, to the common quarters. This is a grand ship, but it's no dignitary vessel. We'll be stuck down here. These ships were designed to prioritise the Captain's quarters, and then the rest can stay together below deck. Even The Mate and Surgeon. Well, if he wasn't wondering why Jesdone knew his way around a ship before, he certainly is now. Shut up and simply point the damn thing out.

There you go. It looked like fairly important stuff, so I put it in a safer place.

Damd Dawg picked up a new human scent, and turned his head toward the portside bow. Human sweat, lot's of human sweat. He picked up on movement down the pier, and saw humans running. Lots of humans running, all carrying sticks and knives and other weapons, apparently headed toward the boat.

Woof, Woof, Woof, Bark Bark Bark AROOOOOOOO bark bark bark bark grrrrrrrr bark

Pic followed the dog and saw the attackers. "Oh, oh, doggie ... that's trouble, indeed." He called loudly over the planks: "Alarm!!! There's some madmen heading for us and not very friendly looking!" At the same time he glanced across the ship and looked for the ship bell. It didn't take him long to spot it beside the steering wheel. Quick as lightning he ran over ther to ring it as loud as he could:

Bogrit! Crabshack! Haul Anchor! You two! Slotglas pointed to a couple of the new hands. Show us you're worth keeping and get us loose from dock. Jesdone, Phartripper! Get the sails up! The rest of you, Alwan will show you to the armory. He pulled Alwan aside for a moment. Hew down as many as you can. I'll try to keep the men on dock safe for a moment. Pick, you're with me.

He ran to his quarters, at the aft, and after handing two great long barrelled rifles to the young boy, he grabbed a pair of his own, as well as a heavy sack and a strapped and capped horn. I hope you know how to pack a musket. Because you're going to have to use those quick hands the best you can.

"Sure, cap' n." Pick had watched a few soldiers loading their guns earlier in the week and thankfully it had been a kind of officer sending them through their paces with it. Silently he thanked that unknown officer as he grabbed the two rifles, although he almost collapsed under their weight.

"Hope ye have enough powder for these canons, " Pick dared to say to Slotglas as they ran to a good firing point.

Posted by: oldraven 11-Apr-2005, 11:12 AM
((Slotglas))

Slotglas rested one musket against the larboard bow rail, motioning Pick to do the same. He took aim, and fired a ball into the mob. It hit one man on the leading edge of the crowd square in the throat, and passed through to catch another in the abdomen. He handed the gun to the boy, let the sack of amunition drop to the deck, and set the powder horn down beside it. Stay down below the rail, and keep those coming.

He bellered over the starboard bow, Get those ropes loose, or you'll be linin' a crows cage by mornin. The two young men struggled with the last tie, and let it drop in the water. No time to worry about wet ropes at this time. Now get up here and pull the gang plank before the ship drifts off without you. The moment they reached the deck, the boat leaned over. The men grabbed at the gang board, but the end dropped off the dock into the water. They struggled with it for a moment, while the captain sent steel volley's into the crowd.

Are these your friends, Phartripper? By now, the remaining crew was back above, and those who weren't aiding Slotglas in his efforts were quick to the gang, pulling it up and out of the way.

Within a few minutes, they had cast off, and the last of the offending bullets were making harmless impacts with the thick hull. Good work, lad. No need to waste any more now. Help Alwan with any injuries to the crew. Bogrit, what's the dammage? The Captain walked to the rear of the Swallow and took the helm. He often did this, even if only for a moment, to give him a bearing on the current situation. A forced moment of clarity, so to speak.

I dare say it's time for that meeting, Phartripper. Bogrit, the ship's yours. After handing the wheel over to the mate, Captain Slotglas walked through the open door to his cabin and waited for his hire to bring the maps.

Phartripper entered the Captains cabin and dropped the load of maps from his hands to the navigation table...

Captain, these are one of a kind maps, they lead to great knowledge and must be gaurded from anyone's eyes but yours and mine!

... I hope I can trust this man... he was referenced highly...

You will see once we get out of the harbor, we must sail absolute north for about 40 degrees longitude... from there... well you will see when you examine the maps...

Posted by: oldraven 11-Apr-2005, 02:42 PM
It took only a moment for Slotglas to see what the man was getting at. I certainly hope you know what you're getting us into. The Nausea was the least of their worries. I wouldn't get too accustomed to any of your crew. There's not much chance we'll be coming back with more than half of them.

There was a call from outside his door which prompted the Captain to look out a window at the rear of the cabin. There, just freeing itself from port, was a ship, more than matching the Swallow in size, and closing fast. Sloglas had seen it when they passed by on the dock, and had counted eight cannon's a side. A new flag was flying, however. A large black, dominant 'O' whipped in the wind. I'd like you to see this, Phartripper. You were no doubt expecting them.

The Captain opened the cabin door and hollered, Full sail! And lean hard on it. We'll show these boys where the horizon sets. There were only a handful of vessels on the seas that could match the Ocean Swallow in speed.

Bogrit began barking orders as soon as the door was once again shut.

We will return with all hands as long as they do not do something stupid on thier own...

... I made this trip once with a smaller crew and brought all hands back alive... does this man doubt my objectives and skill?...

Phartripper looks at the pursueing vessel and just shrugs his shoulders...

... if you are the seaman you are reported to be captain, we will soon out distance that heavy ship...

Posted by: oldraven 11-Apr-2005, 03:20 PM
We'll be away from them before they can curse us. I just wanted to point out that you have an aweful lot of firepower after you. Know that any damage my ship takes will be paid by you, in funds and sweat. Slotglas stepped around his desk and pulled open a drawer. He produced a gleaming black bottle, with foreign lettering, and two sparkling glas tumblers, used only in such a time. He half filled both and bid Phartripper to take one. After corking the bottle, and replacing it in the drawer, he raised his glass to the man and said, To the journey.

Posted by: Shadows 11-Apr-2005, 03:29 PM
Phartripper repied:

It will be the journey of your life time captain...

TO THE JOURNEY

Phartripper downed the liquid and turned and returned to the deck... he glanced back at Slotglas and said:

you coming above to see we make it... or are ye going to stay below and get drunk?

Posted by: oldraven 11-Apr-2005, 03:47 PM
((Jesdone))

Did someone mention drink? Those two are getting aweful cosy. You fullows all done yer little private party? What a day. Hey, at least my feet are still dry.

((Slotglas))

He stepped out of the cabin and relieved Bogrit from the helm. Good work, men. The enemy is falling behind us, and we'll be out of scope sight by morning. It was getting on dusk now. The gulls were letting out their last cries, as they drifted farther out to sea, and the ocean gleamed in the falling sunlight; black against the fiery evening sky.

Pick walked by, in front of the wheel, and the Captain said to him, Again, you did well, boy. He recalled that first shot, that took down two men. Seems you're going to be my spot of good luck on this journey.

(OOC sorry I wasn't in on this guys, I had to work today and it appears I missed out on all of the fun! sad.gif )

Gilidorfus thought he was over his bought with sea-sickness, but another wave of nausea proved him wrong. He had been useless during the recent fight as he had clung tightly to the ship's rail, returning his lunch to the sea from which it had come.

Augggg! he thought, if I have to look at anymore fish....

Damd Dawg trotted laps around the deck twice before settling again before the binacle, where he could view the entire deck. He was HUNGRY, but he was accustomed to that sensation. He was THIRSTY too, but with no fresh water in sight was resigned to a dry evening. He tail thumped on the wooden deck twice before he again tucked it and his huge paws beneath his body.

Phartripper saw the dog settle in and knew he must be hungery and thirsty...

...Captain... what rations and water do we have on board?

I suggest we take substanence while we can...and I think our furry mascot could use some too...

Alwan went down to the galley a half hour ago. There should be food for the crew any time now. We have full stores, for twenty men. I was expecting a larger company than you brought, and any time I dock the ship, I gather resources before seeking out the hire. Makes for fewer surprises. He was standing, feet spread, and one hand behind his back, at the wheel. The place he felt most at home. If you ask Bogrit, he'll show you to the stores. You can fetch a drink for the dog, but be reasonable. Out here, we have no way to get our water back when it's gone.

After a moment or two, a small bell hung low from the main mast rang. The twine that rang the bell ran through a series of loops before disapearing in a hole in the deck floor. Bogrit. Pick half the crew to go down below and eat. The rest of us will eat when you return. He never got sick of the smell of a well grilled haddock.

Stay down below the rail, and keep those coming.
.......

Within a few minutes, they had cast off, and the last of the offending bullets were making harmless impacts with the thick hull. Good work, lad. No need to waste any more now. Help Alwan with any injuries to the crew. Bogrit, what's the dammage?

Pick was very excited and self-concious about the success that they had and felt a bit angry about being sent away now. But finally he nodded and trotted of, head held high and feeling years older.

He went down to the kitchen and called:

"Hei Alwan - is there anyone injured or anything you need a hand with?"

Posted by: Faileas 14-Apr-2005, 03:35 PM
Alwar looked with a sullen face to the scrawny boy. However, he shook his head:

"Noone injured, lad ... these landrats can't shoot, hehehe. As to other help ... , how good are ye peeling potatoes, gutting cod and cleaning vegetables? I could do with help there ... " He looked at Picks sullen face as the boy heard the suggestions. "If ye don't want to or feel incapable of doing this, be gone and this instant!" , he bellowed.

Pick felt very tempted to do just that, but then word would spread that he could not do simple tasks like these and else that he was scared away ... So he grabbed a knife and looked at the cook. "Where's them spuds?", he asked cockily.

Alwar pointed to two baskets and three large buckets under the table - in one was full to the brim with potates, one with carrots and the pails were filled with the fish.

Pick sighed and started to peel the potatoes as fast as he could. "That's better, " snarled Alwar.

Soon a delicious smell began to rise from the kitchen unto the topdeck.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 15-Apr-2005, 03:07 PM
Once Gili's had emptied his stomach of its contents, he started to feel a little better. He decided to go below deck to find out what quarters would be his. He had brought no personal belongings with him other than a spare change of clothes, so he only needed to put those up. He was doing just that when the aroma of cooking fish reached his nostrils. He quickly headed back above deck to get reacquainted with the railing...

Now that his stomach was completely empty, Gili was starting to feel a little hungry so he made his way to the galley. Any other time, the food would have smelled delicious, but not now. Getting a plate of potatoes (no fish for now thanks) he went above to eat, to be near the railing just in case!

"A woman on a boat is bad luck!" HA!" Ruby growls as she rows her dingy it the direction she assumes is land.

Stopping to catch her breath she runs her fingers through her firey red hair.

"Oh where the hell am I? I knew I shouldn't have punched the captain, but he deserved it. No man grabs me and gets away with it"

Slowly she grabs the oars again and continues rowing, hoping someone would find her her soon.

Cap'n! Boat ahead! Cried the hand up in the nest.

Slotglas peered ahead, but saw nothing. I see no ship. Where?

No ship, sir. A boat. Starboard ahead.

The Captain nodded to Bogrit and turned the wheel over to him. Pulling out his spyglass, he scanned the horizon. When he found the vessel the lookout spoke of, he paused for a moment, and then returned to his station, replacing the glass within its' leather sleeve, which hung like a shieth on his belt with a plug.

Jesdone peered out in the water, and after a moment could see movement on the small boat. He turned to the Captain and said, There's a person in that boat. Are you just going to leave them out to drift?

Visibly annoyed, Slotglas shot back, Yes, I'll do precisely that.

But that's condemning to death.

The woman is adrift for a reason! That's a ships rowboat, and some Captain sent her on her way! I'm not about to intervene!

Woman?!? Jesdone's voice was shrill and furious already. He turned to Phartripper, the only man here who had the power to convince the suborn Slotglas. Talk some sense into the man. I won't live with this on my soul.

The fact that she's been set adrift is enough to show that Captain was a fool. But if you insist, then all consequences lie on your shoulders, Phartripper. I'll not lose my ship and have you get away with it. The Captain hollered orders to the men, and spun the wheel.

And I'd watch what I say about those beasts in the depths. Don't discredit the things you've never seen.

Alwan glared at her with some mistrust, but Phartripper obviously knew this "lady" and seemed to trust her.

With a gruff voice , that was more of a snarl he relented: "Aye, might be something ... " Then he added with a poisenous glance at Pick: "And take care of that one ... Show him how to clean veg and maybe explain him that the fins have to be cut away and the guts pulled out ..."

What a bunch. Jes stepped back and watched the rukus, as every man on board crowded around the newcomer. Every man but the captain, that was. He was noticibly red faced, with a vein pulsing in his forehead that threatened to blow at any moment. The crew was wise to not say anything to the man, as they would most likely see just that.

Jesdone walked to the other side of the ship, leaned against the rail, and slumped down on a roll of rope. A grunt came from his right, that he found to belong to the damn dog. I know how you feel. You'd think being human would make someone more easily understood. Well, it takes a lot more than walking and talking to pull that off. There was no answer. Which was good enough. Jesdone's sharp ears picked up much of the conversation between the two leading men, which was no doubt not meant for his hearing.

It was becoming clearer by the moment that this was not some token ships captain. Every time the man opened his mouth, the words became more precise. This was no warf rat. This was a man born to an aristocrat. What was he doing at the helm of such a ship?

In due time Captain, in due time...

Phartripper scratches his head and looks towards the NW....

...I hope those Oxymoron ships have lost us, if not the danger increases more then the Captain knows!

Phartripper walks over and reaches down and strokes Damd Dawg on the back of the head...

Dawg you seem to have brought me luck so far on this voyage, I sure hope it continues...

Phartripper again scans the dark horizon behind the ship.....

The miraculous potion having set his stomach aright, Gilli got up, took his dishes to the mess, and then went in search of Phartripper to see if he needed help with anything.

Phartripper glances once more to the stern and seeing no masts in the distance lets his mind relax...

...now I must tell these folks what they are in for...

Phartripper again strokes the dogs head and sighs....

((Jesdone))

Jes watched the group from his place at the rail. Phartripper had his attention now, as the man stood scratching the dog. Funny. People never scratch each other behind the ear when they meet; what inspires us to do so with a dog?

Jesdone's new boss was looking more and more anxious as the waves rolled by. Something was up, and it had something to do with what the Captain had said earlier. An uneasy feeling crept up from the pit of his stomach. Whatever it was, Jesdone was sure he wasn't going to like it.

(OOC) Well I guess these folks will just be stuck in limbo until more of the players come back.....

After looking around the ship, Gillidorfus finally spotted Phartripper and Jesdone standing by the rail with Dawg. He approached and cleared his throat so as not to startle anyone.

"Hmmhmm... I just wanted to let you know that I am feeling somewhat better now, and feeling a little useless just now. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Aye mate! You can stand watch while I tend to some matters below!

Anything I can help you with, Capitan? Jesdone was going to keep Phartripper close, until some foggy details begin to clear.
